Thank you so much for sharing this recipe, lately I've been craving my mom's Korean food and I remembered this recipe ^^. Can this be frozen in any way? I'd like to make a bunch and freeze it to save some time.
@MizukiSan1515 The base of this pancake is just the flour and water mix; you can put ANYTHING you want (or not want) in it. Her version is with chives thus the name and the recipe vid, but you can put potatoes, onions, octopus, kimchi... Almost any ingredient you like that can be finely chopped can be used, so go wild.
Hi, Aeri. I was wondering if you had a video of how to cook pajeon or "Korean seafood pancake." I know there are videos of how to cook it here on YouTube. I just happen to find your instructions easier to follow, and you give really good tips. Please make a video on how to cook pajeon. Thanks in advance. ^_^ V
@aeriskitchen Ah-huh. I see. Thanks so much :) I've tasted this one too, just a little coz I was full that time. Glad I saw your channel. I guess it's easy to make one so I'll try to make following your instructions. Thanks so so much. :)
OK, never mind... in a previous comment I had asked if you had a video for "leek pancakes"; then I found this recipe... so I must have had the name of the dish wrong...
haha.. nice catch.. maybe I poured all at the end.. since I measure all the ingredients exactly as much as i can.. you can trust the recipe.. ^^ it was just video that recorded like that.. thanks
Hi Aeri, I am Malaysian and just discovered your video. To make pancake more filling I have added shredded cabbage, julienned carrot , shrimp besides the chives, green and white onion. For the batter I put in 4 Tbsp of wheat flour, 2 Tbsp of corn flour and 2 Tbsp of cassava (tapioca) flour plus 1 egg. I use daishi (anchovy) stock instead of water, and have same consistency as yours. It turn out to be crispy and chewy. Dipping is Thai chilli sauce. Taste good, too. Any comments?
@Spicelab11 Completely different end result and completely different recipe that ends up not having anything to do with this one. This is a simple Korean pancake.
Hi Aeri, may I know if the pancake is suppose to be crispy inside and out? My pancake was golden brown on the outside (not crispy though) but unfortunately it still tasted soft and gooey in the middle. I did put more oil to get it to crisp, as well as flattening the batter as much as I could but it was still too soft inside. I'm not sure I should reduce the amount of vegetables now. Any tips? Thanks!!
I don't know how thick your pancake was.. tip for thin crispy pancake is... spread the batter thinly in generously oiled and heated pan.. (if your batter is not too thick.. and a little runny side.. it will be easier to spread the batter thinly.. ) and press the pancakes while it's cooking.. that makes it crispy too... don't cook too high temperature.. because then outside will be golden brown or burn..but inside will not be cooked enough.. with patience.. cook it.. thanks
wich kind of vinegar do you use for the dipping sauce, white apple vinegar or the rice one? Any way, thanks for posting this vid, it looks very tasty and I'm going to try this pancake ASAP!
I used Korean apple vinegar.. it is different from American Apple cider vinegar..but you can use white vinegar or the vinegar you have.. it will be still good..
thank you for answering. I don't know how is american apple vinegar, neither the Corean one. I used italian whit apple vinegar and the result was very good! It's a really good and easy dish. Thank you for posting :)
jeon flour is.. special flour made for making korean pancakes.. it is mainly normal flour...and it has a little bit of other seasonings like.. onion powder.. pepper powder.. something like these to give the pancakes good flavor.. you can just use normal all purpose flour instead..
@adreanmarie well it tastes similar b/c my mom is korean and she of course knows how to use different ingredients to get authentic taste. I think jeon flours give you a bit more sticky texture. whenever you use different ingredients for korean food, you have to know that the texture and the taste could be a bit different
well.. not for this one..if you use garlic chive kimchi.. it will change the flavor for this pancake.. unless you want to make your own food.. :) thanks
hehe.. you can do things you want for your cooking.. ^^ just my personal opinion is.. I liked the batter without egg..because the egg seems change not only the flavor but also the texture of the pancake a little.. you might like that better.. so you can try.. and same with butter.. ^^ thanks
if I replace the korean flour with the usual plain flour...will it work or do I have to add an egg? 'cause...I can't eat eggs. Or would you suggest using self-raising flour?? Do I still use the same amount?
What other flavours or vegetables will work with this recipe? And what other sauces can you use or make that will go nicely with those pancakes?
yep.. plain flour works fine.. you can skip egg also.. just use normal all purpose flour..same amount..
green onion can be substitute for garlic chive.. you can add some zucchini.. carrot.. also if you want.. I prefer soy sauce dipping as I posted for this korean pancake.. thanks
Hi, can you tell me what is the difference between Korean pancake flour and regular flour, and why one should add an egg if using regular flour? Thanks.
Korean pancake flour is made for pancake.. you can think of American pancake mix.. it has dried ingredients in it for pancake.. so easy to make your pancake batter with adding some liquid ingredients.. same thing~~ they add.. onion powder.. black pepper.. egg.. etc in the regular flour.. so ready to cook with adding water..that's the reason why I told you..if you use regular flour..add an egg..I hope my answer is good enough. thanks !!!
This look easy and delicious!!!!.....And I think this pepper is spicy?.....I think if I replace this for tomatoes can be good...Uhmmmm.....Really good !!
Oh... I will say just skip the pepper if you don't want it.(hot pepper is optional).. tomato will ruin the flavor for your jeon.. lol.. so don't use it.. hehe thanks !!!!
aha... kimchi and kakduki... yes.. I could understand what you are saying.. Okay..I will post kimchi soon... I already posted kakduki..I will send you a link for it too.. thanks !!! :)
this looks so good :) I love making this :D of course I tend to spice up my dipping sauce. I usually add red pepper flakes, with a half a clove of garlic, green onion, and some sesame seeds. :D
Yep.. that sounds yummy... I sometimes also make the dipping sauce like yours..I hope people can read your comment and try that dipping sauce also. :) Thanks !!!!
I went to Korea for trip for 2 weeks, and came back yesterday.
Yes, you can add 1 egg.. just watch your water amount.. It will not make that big difference, but you might want to reduce a little amount of water. ^^ enjoy your pancakes !!
