@monkehbitch Original plan was to get access to a second loco when double-heading, through the door at the front of the cab and through the doors between the split headcode boxes. It was never used and the nose doors were mostly sealed up and covered by new central headcode boxes, lights etc. Now the door just leads into the compartment housing the traction motor blowers and either the compressor or exhauster, depending which end of the loco it is.
@monkehbitch It takes you inside the nose of the cab and i believe it houses a number of components including the tmb's (traction motor blowers) they blow a constant stream of cold air on to the traction motors in order to stop them from overheating. hope this helps?
very old fashioned and rough looking inside the cab...i always imagined it to be more futuristic with dials and controls and lights everywhere.....Great video.
My mate works at the Caley railway and on the sunday my other pal was 2nd man from brechin to bridge of dun as they had to collect the carriages so he got a free run
Wow mate, you are so lucky. The only cabs i've ever been in are a class 66 and an FCC 377. It would be my dream to cab one of these beasts. Sadly though there isn't many 37's around in the South East to cab :-(
Door leads to compressors etc

There's a little room in there where they keep things.
