This movie captures the late 70's , the colors are murky , dim , and shows the fashion of the 70's ( medusa's purple coat ). The lighting contrasts from dark to light very easily , Miss Bianca's colors glow in the dark , and emit a subtle purple/blue tint. The innocense of Penny represents the simplicity of the culture. Some might think this is a lame movie , that doesn't seem exciting , but really this movie created an interest in animation when it came out in 1977.

P.S. The whole film has a gritty physicality that's very in touch with the '70s. Watching it in the theatre as a kid, I could almost feel the crocodiles' pudgy, rubbery hide...almost smell the hot burning fuel...vibrate with every unpredictable sputter of the swampmobile. A bit like the garbage crusher in Star Wars: Trippy, man!

Her drive through the streets goes one better on Medusa's crazy ride in 101 Dalmatians (and uses the same painted 3D model technique!) The 2D animation remains unmatched to this day, and little touches - like Bianca's body weight amplified by the car's jostlings to give her the inertia needed to unlatch the suitcase - make it come alive. Medusa was, of course, Milt Kahl's final tour de force. Kahl really owns this movie.
