Great performance, but what is with the birds mixed in with the video in the middle of the performance...that was so annoying and a distraction to watch...otherwise nice.
Schuba deserves credit for being great at figures (and by all accounts was a nice woman), but the idea that figures was kept around until the 90's after this fiasco is absurd!!!
Anyone who says that figures improves basic skating skills need only look at Trixie, Janet, and many many others who so conclusively demolished that argument.
@mlc2005 you need to learn about what you speak. Not all ballet dancers are good at or even like barre work, but it is essential to the art form and no ballet dancer would even think of not including it in there daily regimen. Figures is to skating what barre work is to dance - and it has now been proven just how detrimental to the sport taking them away has been.
@EightballRus: Why do you feel I don't know what I'm talking about? How is it that figures improves basic skating skills if Schuba, one of the world's greatest "figures" skaters, was a very mediocre artistic skater? Then you look at Lynn, who was mediocre at "figures," but one of the best artistic skaters of all time??? Such examples are endless. Dick Button even stated that being good at figures simply means that you practice them over and over again.
It's often said Janet "wasn't any good" at school figures but placing fourth in the Olympic games is not at all "bad" - she just had the bad fortune to be competing against Schuba - who by the way should not be derided for her success - she won the title fairly.
Schuba was a terrible free skater she finished 7th but still won the gold medal. The international skating federation was so embarrassed they changed the rules so it wouldnt happen again. The year before at the world championships in Lyon, France the crowd booed shuba they were so shocked that she won the gold medal
@notnek202 All true - what I mean is that she won according to the rules in effect at the time she was competing - there was no "judging controversy" - everyone agrees she was the greatest technician in school figures of all time - and in fact Lynn recently gave a talk to the USFSA criticizing the new scoring system AND the removal of figures from competition.
whats up with the frickin' birds??????

@mlc2005 actually Lynn herself recently gave a speech to the USFSA saying she thought it was a mistake to take figures out of the sport
