I found bill hicks in 1992. My life changed on that day, I guess you could say I found my religion. If only he could see the world today, so much material for him to work with. He was a prophet.
@lloplop I like the fact that you manage to complain about the video, mention what you believe the video is about and also use the word gay in a negative matter.
In an interview, Hicks was asked why he had quit smoking, he answered, "I just wanted to see if Denis would, too."
In another interview, Hicks said, "I have a scoop for you. I stole his [Leary's] act. I camouflaged it with punchlines, and, to really throw people off, I did it before he did."
At least Hicks got a chance to call Leary out on his thieving hackbaggery!
Each song on the AENIMA album is a reflection of Bill's many skits. What don't you people understand? The album is dedicated to him therefore the only way to do this is by mimicking his comedy routine. The songs are about what the man preached... any clearer now?
@AliceNchainz011 Drugs, morons, mothers and relationships. Still not clear? Look at it like this, they wrote the music so everyone could relate to it including Hicks.

i really do like Bill Hicks style and he was genuine to his commitment to the truth as he came to see things based on what was available to him in the way of documented evidence that now makes the truth relatively easy to find because the deception has been documented with no one being held accountable. Hicks would have been pretty incredible at helping waking the oblivious with a mountain of evidence at his disposal.
Is this song actually about bill hicks? the lyrics are an amazing match. If they are, that just made me respect tool even more. Great video regardless.
@ziniocs I dont think this song is about Hicks, but I could be wrong. Maynard was a friend of his though, back when he used to do comedy way back in the day. There was an old story of Hicks doing a stand-up set at a Tool show and fucking with the crowd by saying he had lost a contact lens and having everyone looking for it. Maynard thought it was so hilarious that he still does it on stage sometimes.
Anyway, I'm going to guess that this isn't about Bill just because of 7:00 on
@MUFC127 then what the fuck is wrong with you? thats rhetorical by the way, i also love led zeppelin; who could possibly be the other biggest influence on music next to the beatles, listen to the cover tool does of no quarter, also you are probably the only zep fan not to like tool, sorry but i find this strange due to the fact that they are amazing in so many ways, i had a friend from serbia tell me he didn't like them either but once i got him to listen to he realized his preconceived mistake
@MUFC127 yeah because age matters on something so subjective such as music, your obvious pretentiousness just goes to show that nobody should listen to your opinions about which bands are good, your judgement is poorer than haiti
@MUFC127 I'm 30. I love tool. Hicks. And Zeppelin and I find your comment big, sad, shit. I can tell you that when you go on youtube to spew weak venom like that, you probably have a huge ass gap as far as experiences go. Look at what gets you off.. you need to live. live. live. live. watch more bill hicks..I read on another video that someone said he is a "teacher" and I thought it was a most appropriate comment.
thanks for this! but i wanted to tell the truth to the world that bill hicks has been murdered! officially `he´d died of cancer but it was a murder that the us government hides behind it. because bill hicks knew too much and dangerous for the controlled system by those politics, corporations, mass educations etc.in which people should live like in an animal farm.he was killed by the controlling conspiracy. all those great pple like JFK,Martin Luther King, Ghandi, J. Lennon etc. were murdered...
@AFallenLord You know, I've listened to a lot of Hicks, and a lot of Leary, and frankly, they don't sound all that similar. Leary's just pissed off. Hicks is pissed off about something.
@dangerbooboo Leary is a hack. He blew up with the No Cure For Cancer show, which "coincidentally" used the style and jokes of Hicks but none of the substance. Then Hicks died, and for some strange reason, nobody has found Leary funny ever since. Maybe because without great material to steal, he really is just an asshole.
@devourerofbabies I agree. That's not to say I have anything against assholes, though. I mean, I'm an asshole myself. I just have a tough time tolerating assholes (or anyone) who acts like something he's not. It's so exhausting.
@devourerofbabies could we please just let this whole thing go?? Yes, he did copy a lot of what he did but his jokes about eating meat (which I found funny even though I am a vegetarian) were original and I have listened to hours of Bill Hicks material every day for the past few months and never heard him talk about eating meat. Yes, it was wrong for Dennis Leary to be so similar and it is BS that he gets more attention but he we must not let that get in our way.
@OriginalRatoly That's a really good way of putting it actually. Leary stole the style of Hicks' act, but cut out the substance. In the final analysis Hicks was an optimist, and his anger stemmed from the fact that we are better creatures than we treat ourselves. Leary is precisely the kind of person Hicks was angry with.
@devourerofbabies Yea, there was an interview with hicks, and he makes a joke about the comedy in britain being were he was 5 years ago, refering to dennis. He knew even then, but the "entertainment industry" will only consider people who are in mainstream who do what they say, that is push their dilluted versions of reality involving a sick amount of materialism.
Arguing posturing bullshit be damned - good video and i get what the guy who made it is going for. I think it fits, regardless of intended meaning, and i don't see it as an insult if you're willing to not approach it from a literalist standpoint.
@Bilopicoyusipucus I never pretended to speak for Bill Hicks, dude, but you sure do. all i did initially was express how " I " felt after stumbling upon Hicks; now why did u find it necessary to lash out and tell me that (in your opinion) Bill Hicks hated me? Your self righteous and arrogant name dropping "I knew him better and longer than you" soapbox says a whole lot more about YOU than it does about Hicks. I have no use or regard for your opinion so....Troll along, troll.
maybe I'm interpretating the song wrong but I love bill hicks and I love tool but if tool made this song about bill hicks (which is just what I heard) then surely it is saying bad stuff about bill hicks and how he was just trying to be a martyr and tell everyone what to do.(which I disagree with) (what im trying to say is, is the song about l. r hubbard, bill hicks or other?????)
@spotydod hubbard no, hicks yes kind of, i think the same thing you do, Maynard could be talking about different things at once, i tried to explain that in my other comment but that person is to dumb. But Maynard has a unique way of putting things. and just so everyone knows and you i'm just trying to shed some light. not trying to act like i know everything.
@CHuK1253 But I thought tool and Maynard liked hicks but if this song was about him then to me it seems like Maynard is insulting hicks and his life???????????
@Bilopicoyusipucus Gee...thank you for pointing that out to me. I'm SO glad that you get to tell the world what Bill thought of everybody. Oh yeah, he hated full of it pompous assholes who claimed to speak for other people; especially the dead. next
@rubane the guys from tool are big Bill Hicks fans, they made this song for him and/or Kurt Cobain, (I'm leaning more toward Mr. Hicks), they consider him another dead hero. If anyone would buy fuckin albums anymore I think you'll see the truth.
@rubane ... what? I wasn't starting anything, nor was i telling you how to think, I was simply replying, and I was keeping to myself, you were the one who replied to my comment with false information, It shouldn't matter what the song is about, listen to the music not the words. I just wanted to let the people know that it actually is about Bill.
@rubane I'm not gonna waste my time with you, there's a song for you called "ticks and leeches". you got comments then put them on my channel, don't contaminate this page with your bullshit!!!!
Ok, I feel like an asshole for not knowing who Bill Hicks was, cause he was brilliant! After listing to him for couple of hours ,I heard a phrase that I've heard a million times on Tools eulogy.
without a shadow of a doubt the greatest and most important stand up comedian of all time. Always hilarious, always right, always missed. It is good to know that he is still appealing to those young and old who are seeking light, truth, and the ability to open their eyes to the world, despite being dead for over 15 years. He will always be missed. also, Eulogy is my favourite Tool song, so good job! xx
@munnytome Obviously, you have to use your own discretion :) I was referring to the sentiments and ideals that he represented. He was flawed as person, and displayed contradictions, but that is a trait that defines humanity, so the realism behind his work is what brings it home as truthful and beautiful.
@mightypilch yea i feel you...and i agree with what you said too. im just gettin into him and think its a shame he isn't mainstream. He was intelligent, like, god damn. Look at our idols and celebrities today, ignorant hip hop stars, horrifyingly idiotic reality stars, even to some degree athletes. If these are the people we are emulating, where is American society going to end up? We need sociopolitical revolution in this country, a real transformation. The humanity in America is rotting.
Ænima isn't just a mindless drone about how great Bill Hicks is, if you look at it from another angle it's also a brutal attack on him. it's like Citizen Kane, it's about him, and for the audience to decide for themselves whether he was good or not.
Bill was taken in 1994 (1+9+9+4=23) at the age of 32. This symbolic display of broken symmetry is evidence of an illuminati plot to rob the world of its true leaders and silence the voices of those who show us the true path.......
Thanks jcbman. Nice tribute, I truly appreciate the respect you applied to this. I love Bill, The man is a prophet, perhaps more. TOOL understood the magic. once again, Thank you.
He has simply realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream we're the imagination of ourselves.
i didnt know that ignorant jackass died . i hope it was a long painfull process . now there are 2 things i have to do soon . take dancing lessons and find out where his grave is . good riddance to bad rubbish .
@thc2468 Yes it was a long and painful process. He had pancreatic cancer. The most painful kind there is. I wouldn't wish it on anyone. Not even on your tyrannical government boot licking ass.
@cordlo an ignorant useless jackass ? a moving target on ted nugent's shooting range ? what he is today is exactly what i would like to imagine him as but i dont have to anymore .
Since I was a kid I always had the idea that the universe itself from which we are part of is learning, like a child would. It is not finite nor infinite but looking at itself in a mirror and we are the mirror. The Universe is conscious of it'self though us because we are the universe. We just cannot observe the speed at which it is working. Time to us is slow but time to the Universe is how we observe it, even slower.
You want honesty and truth? OK, here it goes. I "discovered" Bill Hicks only yesterday and after listening to what he had to say, I found myself crying sadly because:
1) he had died before I even new he was once alive
2) there are a few people who come along as what I like to refer to as "Beings of Light". They are here to carry a message and help us so that we don't sleepwalk through life with our eyes half closed.
Thank God that his legacy lives on... and truth never dies.
@curtispsf Well said appart from the " thank god" bit. Just extend your thanks to the actual REAL people of vertue like hicksy. Its never easy to be as honest as guys like bill because you will get vilified for verbaly swatting all the ignorant fools out there. When people cant reason their way into or out of a discusion they always resort to shouting/abusive behaviour to change the subject. Its a subconceous reaction. we sevierly underestimate our own abilitys, Its a shame. nvm :p
@curtispsf yes I also found out about him after his death. I found out about him from Tool. Bill Hicks could have woken up America if he was still with us. I wish he was still here, but his legacy is strong for those who know him. I will never forget Bill the rest of my life. He has helped me wake up.

@curtispsf He all decended from the atlantean, and thoth is the teacher of men who instilled us all with light, as is infered by the tablets of thoth written thousands of years ago. We all have the latent potential inside, we just need to shake away the illusions and delusions that have been fed to our minds throughout our live, and are perpetuated by this machine of S.S.'s. can't you see that courntries, religions, and ideologies are illusions of the mind,...Bill hick
"we always kill the good guys who try and tell us this and we let the little demons run a mok" the world is 85% self feeding ignorant wastes of flesh and bone whos only concern is getting to those jobs each day because they will be homeless poor scared sheeple who nead a leader and a dictator or a facist regeime such as the capitalist gang-bang to believe in WHAT ABOUT EVOLUTION WHAT ABOUT SPACE EXPLORATION AND WHAT ABOUT SPIRITUAL FULFILMENT KEEP DRINKING ALCOHOL IGNORANT FUCKS!!!!!!!
"hitler had the right idea" rain 40 days" he was so right the world needs to start over the media and corrupt run goverments who will fist fuck anyone just to add more zeros on there digital bank accounts are ready to fuck and drain this planet for everything it has to feed their gluttonous desires because they feel thats called fulfilment in there lives LMAO they need to wake up and realise the earth is suffering! earths children are suffering and bill was a prophet who was told to shut up!!!
All great artists must die, but at least he got those bits of truth out (in an entertaining way) during the time of the internet. If he was born a couple hundred years earlier, most of us would have never heard of him.
He's now just another part of our universe. Energy flowing freely through all things, as we all will some day.
But for a blink of an eye, he made a small bit of difference in the illusion of our reality. Brightened things up a little, made things less scary for some of us.
The song Eulogy is meant to be an attack on the self righteous... It perhaps means the opposite of your intended purpose of playing this song over footage of Bill Hicks.
@joelt420 I'm not sure where you're getting your research from, but considering how Tool was friends with Hicks, I highly doubt they would write a song for him that criticizes him so intensely. "He had a lot to say. He had a lot of nothing to say. " "Ranting and pointing his finger At everything but his heart. " "No way to recall What it was that you had said to me, Like I care at all. " "Come down. Get off your fuckin cross. We need the fuckin’ space to nail the next fool martyr. "
@juvenile109 Thats TOOL for you thats how thier personality is and thats how bill lived his life but the song was written for mr.hicks if u buy aenima and look at the art on the cd cover you would know, stop downloading and go buy the real thing I have been buying tool records since they first came with opiate.Like I said do the research buddy.
@joelt420 Actually, I have bought the album Aenima. The song Third Eye was written for Hicks, but I'm not sure where the connection lies with Hicks being on the cover and Eulogy necessarily being about Hicks. Danny Carey himself stated that it was written about L. Ron Hubbard. I'm not quite sure where your research is coming from, but if you have a source, please, enlighten me.
@inbetweentics I took all of my concerns to the government and they told me to fuck off so now I'm attacking them. My pen is my sword. Unfortunately I have to also battle all of the braindead people that are blindly following and loving this government. Hitler really was trying to kill these MEN that are now running the United States government. Is everyone really so happy with this government that they can sleep easily at night? If you knew these men you would never sleep again.
''I'm Bill Hicks and I'm dead now'' He knew someone would use that after he died. i'm so glad it was used with Tool, who are just like a similar version of Bill except they are a band, and Bill was a comedian. but they both used they're talents to speak their minds. i love crazy people. they know what's up. i love how Bill goes off and tells it.
''today a young man on acid realized all matter is merely energy condensed to a slooooww vibration that we are All one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream we're the imagination of ourselves.'' what a quote... we're the imagination of ourselves.
@BoosieBoosieBoosie I just put that as a quote on my facebook page, wish i would have seen your comment before pausing and listening to it, would have saved me a lot of time haha
If you like that quote, I'm sure you'd love the speech he ended his shows with near the end of his death; it's just a ride. I'm not going to paraphrase or even copy and paste the quote. Search that phrase with Hicks name along with and, and you're in for a treat.
lol I always crack up when I see douchebags fighting over what song means what and why on YouTube. Dude, if you look up the lyrics, the shit is completely cryptic. Maynard writes his shit delicately like that, so listeners can come up with their OWN interpretations of the lyrics, and draw their own conclusions for themselves. Simple as that. This song is what you make of it. Fucking christ.

Yes, it was wrong for Dennis Leary to be so similar and it is BS that he gets more attention but he we must not let that get in our way.
bluez4soul 7 months ago
@bluez4soul Must not let that get in our way of what? I don't see what your point is.
devourerofbabies 7 months ago
@devourerofbabies I"m saying let's just light up, sit back and enjoy the music and or the comedy
bluez4soul 7 months ago
@bluez4soul Excellent idea. I'll sit back and enjoy good comedy, not comedy by two bit joke stealing piece of shit hacks.
devourerofbabies 7 months ago
@devourerofbabies well put.
W6S0A4 6 months ago
@OriginalRatoly That's a really good way of putting it actually. Leary stole the style of Hicks' act, but cut out the substance. In the final analysis Hicks was an optimist, and his anger stemmed from the fact that we are better creatures than we treat ourselves. Leary is precisely the kind of person Hicks was angry with.
devourerofbabies 9 months ago
@devourerofbabies Yea, there was an interview with hicks, and he makes a joke about the comedy in britain being were he was 5 years ago, refering to dennis. He knew even then, but the "entertainment industry" will only consider people who are in mainstream who do what they say, that is push their dilluted versions of reality involving a sick amount of materialism.

Arguing posturing bullshit be damned - good video and i get what the guy who made it is going for. I think it fits, regardless of intended meaning, and i don't see it as an insult if you're willing to not approach it from a literalist standpoint.
MrMokk5150 11 months ago
@Bilopicoyusipucus I never pretended to speak for Bill Hicks, dude, but you sure do. all i did initially was express how " I " felt after stumbling upon Hicks; now why did u find it necessary to lash out and tell me that (in your opinion) Bill Hicks hated me? Your self righteous and arrogant name dropping "I knew him better and longer than you" soapbox says a whole lot more about YOU than it does about Hicks. I have no use or regard for your opinion so....Troll along, troll.
curtispsf 11 months ago
maybe I'm interpretating the song wrong but I love bill hicks and I love tool but if tool made this song about bill hicks (which is just what I heard) then surely it is saying bad stuff about bill hicks and how he was just trying to be a martyr and tell everyone what to do.(which I disagree with) (what im trying to say is, is the song about l. r hubbard, bill hicks or other?????)
spotydod 11 months ago
@spotydod hubbard no, hicks yes kind of, i think the same thing you do, Maynard could be talking about different things at once, i tried to explain that in my other comment but that person is to dumb. But Maynard has a unique way of putting things. and just so everyone knows and you i'm just trying to shed some light. not trying to act like i know everything.

without a shadow of a doubt the greatest and most important stand up comedian of all time. Always hilarious, always right, always missed. It is good to know that he is still appealing to those young and old who are seeking light, truth, and the ability to open their eyes to the world, despite being dead for over 15 years. He will always be missed. also, Eulogy is my favourite Tool song, so good job! xx

@mightypilch he wasnt always right...he said, for instance, that apes have been around for billions of years
munnytome 8 months ago
@munnytome Obviously, you have to use your own discretion :) I was referring to the sentiments and ideals that he represented. He was flawed as person, and displayed contradictions, but that is a trait that defines humanity, so the realism behind his work is what brings it home as truthful and beautiful.
mightypilch 8 months ago

Bill Hicks is not dead,
He has simply realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration, that we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively, there is no such thing as death, life is only a dream we're the imagination of ourselves.

Way to ruin bill hicks by such a shitty song from one of the worst bands ever.
couldwinarabbit 1 year ago
All great artists must die, but at least he got those bits of truth out (in an entertaining way) during the time of the internet. If he was born a couple hundred years earlier, most of us would have never heard of him.
He's now just another part of our universe. Energy flowing freely through all things, as we all will some day.
But for a blink of an eye, he made a small bit of difference in the illusion of our reality. Brightened things up a little, made things less scary for some of us.

I'm not quite sure where your research is coming from, but if you have a source, please, enlighten me.

lol I always crack up when I see douchebags fighting over what song means what and why on YouTube. Dude, if you look up the lyrics, the shit is completely cryptic. Maynard writes his shit delicately like that, so listeners can come up with their OWN interpretations of the lyrics, and draw their own conclusions for themselves. Simple as that. This song is what you make of it. Fucking christ.
