  • Great talk track.

  • Snippets are really cool!

  • I wish i had teacher like you!

  • HAHAHAHA your free advice is obviously used at Starbucks. Now the title tag is "Starbucks Coffee Company" and they rank no.2 after wikipedia for "Coffee" :D

  • what the hell is going on with microphone

  • Does anyone double check the video quality ... the noise is so annoying !

  • thank you so much :)

  • Snippets or 'show more results' may cover half of the first Google page. That is not fair.

  • It’s raining in the microphone? Anyway nice video, very informative I really like the google algorithm...very user friendly.

  • Come on guys he gave a disclaimer, he's just visiting the Kirkland Office lol ...

Why the heck did Starbucks have the word "Homepage" in the single most important on page SEO component ?

Good Stuff, but we haven't had any luck convincing some of our clients that Google doesn't have a fee for everything, we'll leave that stuff up to Yelp.

Come visit us: @ Ensight Marketing com

  • @ensightmarketing

Do you know, startbucks who have changed their meta title into starbucks coffee company as matt suggested in the above video.

  • very helpful. great explanation. thanks!

  • billionaire can t make a f... good video!

  • Google needs to hire a sound editor.

  • this sound quality sucks, mat cutts..

  • Next time google can borrow my camera for $6.99 per hour.

  • Watched this and did the meta changes...My diagnostics still say I have 12 duplicates?! Hoping this reaches any of you guys and send me an email about it.

  • @sus102010 PS. Google Webmasters, the site is for mirneurology

  • Matt is awesome! I enjoy watching him respond to the questioners on GoogleWebmasterHelp as well.

  • note this feature is gone now.

  • awesome video!

  • i just can't watch this video till the end because of the... oh well it has already been said.

  • "Google’s mission is to organize the world‘s information and make it universally accessible and useful."

But the audio explaining this in detail should sound like it was recorded in a wind tunnel. WOOT WOOT!

  • Matt consistently great and explaining how things work. This information is not just about ranking well with google but it's about how to make a better user experience, easier to find what the user is looking for. Google and good companies have the same goals.

  • The closed captioning was better on this blog... But you need a better mike... or whatever is interfering occasionally with the input device you are using here. Thanks for posting this Matt!

  • Matt, If there's a spelling mistake in my website snippet, how do you tell the Googlebot to refresh the snippet? Thank you in advance.

  • @swordfishuk77 You can't tell Googlebot to do anything, you'll just have to wait for it crawl you site again, this can vary greatly in time.

  • now days you even get a posh back ground let alone a working microphone!!

  • very useful, but may i ask ? Is this still valid with Google today?

  • god i wanted to watch this video but the constant movement of the microphone just killed it for me. how frustrating and annoying. clearly im not the only one who felt this way.

  • What the hell is the matter with the audio? Can Google not afford a basic microphone that works???

  • Good video, but the sound quality was really bad

  • Really very useful information, but if google don´t have enough money to buy a microphone, ask for help, maybe we can give money or a microphone.

  • i leaved the video after a 1 min

that is what i call a professional error

  • Put up the videos in other languages or talk slower.

  • I'm using this as my ringtone.

  • Here you go again...

    "Google reserves the rights".

    Well how about our rights???

  • Its the internet. You have no rights....sorry.

  • Haha. That's what you think. We have hackers on our side.... Haha!!! Yes!!!!

  • Matt is obviously an amazingly knowledgeable dude but DOEN"T GOOGLE HAVE THE CASH TO BUY A MICROPHONE!?!

  • My God... I made it to 1:30... Did you film this in a wind tunnel, or was the microphone in somebody's pocket?

  • I really tried hard watching the vid, because it REALLY interests me, but I couldn't stand the audio longer than 2:30. Too sad.

  • horrible audio...how could they even think about posting it on youtube!!!!????

  • Ironic that this guy is talking about user friendliness when this video itself is not user-friendly due to the crackling. Google profits millions every month from AdWords. Buy a fucking mic that works.

  • Ahahahahahaah!!!!!

  • I couldn't bare past 2 minutes with the audio issues. Hey, you could pay me to produce videos for you, and the audio would be crystal. I would only charge a few million.

  • Awesome Video

  • They really changed the title to "Starbucks Coffee Company" after watching this video :)

  • Audio too poor to watch the full 8 mins. Videos are great though.

  • I found this information useful. : )

  • Surely, Google - A major company should be able to afford a decent video camera with decent sound quality

  • Very informative but the audio quality left a lot to be desired.

  • ***Totally agree about the audio*** -.-''

  • hmm..... dadada h

  • this is awesome!

  • HOLD ON>> he said if they couldnt get a copy they pull one from dmoz or what ever.. well ever few months this happens to me and they wont update my dmoz listing and it is 9 years old and sucks. i hope it is something i can control .. wish they would use cache info instead

  • Nice video! Thanks. It was very usefull. Only the audio from your mic was not optimal ;)

  • Nice video, thanks for sharing......

  • Thanks Matt. Very good info on Snippets and Google

  • Nice Handwriting................

  • Matt, could you show one for google adwards!?

  • Matt Cutts good man - sociable :)

  • he is a man with brains

  • I'm gonna get you matt, you horrible man

  • It's a great video. Really explains how Google creates their search results.

  • Great feature from Google; really useful video to explain as well. Well done MC

  • Thanks

  • Can't stand the rustling and scratches on the audio on the video. It is not as professional as one would expect from Google. Please ask Google to hire me as a video/audio editor!

  • Thank you Matt, I really take from these series. You really should drop in again and record some more! Make sure the sound's ok next time. Cheers and thanks one more time.

  • matt cutts is a legend

  • Great Video, thx for the help... Keep them coming. Will you be covering this again at Pubcon?

  • Thanks Matt - a really useful insight into snippets, and cool decision to do it on a whiteboard not a screen!

  • Hey Matt, How do Google decide on picking up a website for site links. How come the algorithms works only for few and not for all if it is a general algo. What is the criteria to qualify?

  • You are friggin awesome. Thanks for the refresher.

  • This rocks! Helped me immensely. Thanks Matt.

    Eric

  • Matt, I don't trust you! I'm not buying the intro story: "Hey, why don't you grab a video camera, find an empty office, and record as many videos as you can in an hour?" .

Why? Because when you genuinely think "hey, why don't you grab a video camera" you don't put that in the video!

    Google puppet!

  • these google learning videos are phenomenal, across the board, all of them.. so, what was the verdict on how many dots to put? two dots or three? ... ? vital questions we all need the answer too.. surely some phd in google has solved this dilemma for the rest of humanity..

  • Hey all, I apologize that the audio sometimes got flaky. We literally grabbed a video camera and said "How many videos can we shoot in an hour?"

TheredGuy, it's correct that the algorithm decides which web pages will get sitelinks for which queries. There's no way for a webmaster to force it to trigger. However, if you do have sitelinks, you can choose to delete individual sitelinks in Google's webmaster console.

  • Don't care about that. Your videos are very interesting.

  • Short, to the point, and kicks me in the right direction to make improvements.

  • Isn't Matt Cutts the CIA guy? With the security clearance?

  • I didn't quite get how site links work... How does the algorithm decide which web pages will have site links and which not? If I got right, there is no way for a webmaster to trigger it?

  • Mmm,interesting..

  • That was lot of writing to do, good one Matt !

  • ouch, bad seo :D

  • sounds like a windy office...?

  • this is awesome!
