  • I would like to see someone play the solo from "Over and Over" or "You Won't Change Me" or "Air Dance". .....This Warning solo is badass! Killer job! Tony is such a unique guitar player

  • tony is one of my early guitar hearoes, you sharing this just shows how good he realy is,

his slides and bends just got in to my playing just cuz i was sutch a sabbath freak.

    great vids doc

  • @DANTHETUBEMAN nice message, thanks and rock on

  • Wow talk about a great sound!

0 dislikes, thats what i like to see!

  • I find it absolutely amazing how this has the exact Sabbath sound, its exactly in tune and finally, I just find it truly amazing. Also if this guy was actually in Sabbath I'm sure he wouldn't look out of place at all.

  • Fender Strats NEED NOT APPLY!

  • Looking at the thumbnail,I thought that it was Tony Iommi himself in the video!

  • what kind of pickups do have on your sg thanks

  • u should do the song in for the kill

  • "Some more classic Sabbath 4 you."

These words sent chills down my spine.

Excellent lesson doctor. Now i know how to play one of my favorite solos. It would be really nice if you could do the solo from Into The Void.

  • @rockandmetaljunkie Into the Void is definitely on the list! Many thanks

  • Big fan of your vids, you gave a lot of life to my playing

What I think would be a killer solo for you to make a vid of is the Fairies Wear Boots solo, prolly one of my most favorite solos. thanks

  • @rollthelosingdice Very nice words, thanks! Fairies Wear Boots is a masterpiece. The whole piece is, but I'd love to transcribe that solo some time. Can't promise, but yeah, amazing.

  • Excellent lesson. Thank you Tony for sharing. Nadine

  • And I thought I was a big Sabbath fan. You, sir ar a SABBATH FAN. Great videos, man.

  • @danpolicarpo this comment made my day, thanks and rock on

  • @danpolicarpo oh sorry man i was voting up by mistake i did the reverse sorry

  • You are the absolute man. Thanks so much for helping me and all the others play the songs that we all love. We need more ppl like you on Youtube, instead of all the garbage.

  • Massive fan of your work mate. Your lessons are superb. It's helped with my jamming so much! Huge Sabbath fan aswell. Do you have an 'Into The Void' lesson? I've been trying to work out the solo at 4.47 mins into the song, any help would be much appreciated. All the best. Leon.

  • @leonrocks99 Thanks a lot. I love Into the Void more than words can express and yes I recently worked out the solo. I'll definitely be doing that (but when!?) I need a clone to get work done... rock on

  • Hi Nick! I'm from Brasil and I really liked this Black Sabbath solo of the song "Warning", really amazing!

Could you teach how to play the first part of this song? that kind of blues jam =D

I'm sure all Black Sabbath fans will love it!

    Thank You very much!

  • I don't see a Tab.

  • this is greattt my jaydee pickups came in and ima jammm with this with them

  • @Terrible1 Nice! Which jaydee pickups did you get?

  • @doctornerve

i got the ones that are on the old boy custom sg but i asked him to make the pickups in similiar sound as tony had them in the monkey sg. john said the pickups generally run at 11k neck and 24k bridge on tony's current sg but they arent as hot in the monkey sg. but thats what he made me lol they sound amazing.

  • @Terrible1 Real cool. So you got the parallel blades in the bridge position and the 9 pole humbucker in the neck position (John Birch Superflux style)? A little confused because the Monkey SG had a stock P90 in the bridge position. He's not saying the stock Gibson P90 had a hotter output than Jaydee pickups is he?

Anyway, curious how long you had to wait for the pickups to arrive? I understand he has quite a backlog.

  • @doctornerve yeah i think the neck is 18 pole ? i dunno theres two rows of screws 9 on each side lol when Tony had his guitar brought into John (Birch or Diggins) the two p-90s were customized to prevent feedback and rewound so its possible those monkey pickups are hotter than the reguler p-90's but John was saying the pickups he produces these days are hotter than the ones on the monkey sg. I asked him to make them like the monkey SG pickups and it took 3 months lol

  • could try to tab the very beginning part. the part with the nylon string guitar. i can't find it anywhere and i love classical guitar and i know it's not classical but i would still like to learn it. thanks

  • killer tune, one of a few covers Sabbath did.

  • AWESOME JOB! Dead on nuts up PERFECT!

Now try it with artificial fingertips! Just kidding... thanks for doing this!!!

  • Thank you so much for this really helpfull video.

  • What about that blues solo in this song? You should make a lesson for that please, its my favorite solo from Iommi.

  • Are you in standard tuning here? It's sounds as if you tuned down a half-step. I talked with you before about your '67 having your tremolo ripped out and how you have yet to play an SG with Humbuckers like my '73, if I remember correctly. Those P-90's have a sweet sound all their own nonetheless. Thanks!!

  • @BellumSacrumBellum28 Yes standard. Whole first record is standard.

Got a line on a '64 with humbuckers... hope it works out.

    But yeah I love p90's

  • Nice video!!! Can you do a video of Tony Iommi's second solo from the song, Its about 4 mins and 33 seconds in. I love that part. Cheers!!

  • @PleadWhileYouBleed That whole suite is staggering - such a great guitar showcase, and establishes the band as an astounding jamming group. Would love to transcribe the whole 15 minute Bit of Finger / Sleeping Village / Warning opus. Got lots on my plate though...

  • thanks doctornerve ... being a beginner, I always thought Iommi's solos were out of reach ... but thanks to you, I'm wrong !!

  • Complimenti!

  • Fecking awesome! I've been wanting to play this properly for years. Now I can!

  • my friend you certainly kick ass

thanks to you ive been able to crank some solo the way they were meant to be

me and my abnd thank you

    cheers from mexico

  • excellent!

  • Thanks for this mate; you have brought this amazing solo within my reach. Brings back lots of memories of 1985 Auckland, New Zealand. Sitting in a room with my friends playing Black Sabbath records over and over and trying to play the riffs and licks we heard, on our guitars.

  • @TheGuitarRic Hey man thanks for painting a great picture. Rock on

  • My favorite Song of All Time !! Yeap, Yeap that's the one all right !! Well the album too I guess"" Bought it back when it first came out .. ...

  • @philipstricken My people!!! Pretty cool to be able to say that: getting the first Sabbath record when it first came out. Awesome.

  • dude you can play some guitar, im a huge sabbath fan (the ozzy days of course) and you contribute to that alot. thanks man

  • @Ben0itZ my people!!!

  • can you send me the backing track please?

  • @CyanideV check link in more info above

  • @doctornerve thanks didnt see this one.

good job keep on making those videos they are really helpfull!

  • so fuckin good !!!

  • i rlly need to know the amp setting here :D ?

  • @yootesa1515

Glad you like the tone, but I do not recall the amp and pedal settings. Unless you are using a Flextone II amp and a Krank Distortus Maximus, it would not be relevant to you anyway.

Dial it in by ear on your gear!

  • awesome :-P

    5 stars

  • i want the ending solo.. i cant find tabs anywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Standard tuning?

  • yep, standard tuning

  • brilliant :D

  • the best sabbath's song!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Good man. Fucken brilliant. One of my favorite Sabbath songs.

  • I like the way you present yourself -not a typical rock and roller but someone who is levels above most guitarists that dissect Black Sabbath guitar work.

Usually people at this level are typically not Black Sabbath fans...its great to have someone with your teaching ability to appreciate and teach some of the worlds heaviest guitar tones and riffs -even Iommi himself doesn't have his old tone and doesn't always play the studio version of his older material this exact.

  • True!

  • Fantastic!! Best Youtube teacher I've ever seen! At last count I've seen over 12,000 clips and I am a guitarist of 30 years plus of playing - you never stop learning and this album was one of the first I ever owned. I hope you are planning to do war Pigs as well?? Many thanks!

  • Hey man I truly appreciate your good words. Yes War Pigs is in the queue. My SG is getting refretted; when it comes home we'll get back to business.

  • fairies wear boots would be cool too...

  • Fairies Wear Boots is an awesome piece of music. Gigantic. Love it.

  • Thanks! You're the only one I've seen doing this tune!!

  • if you do this vid at a lower resolution and zoom in cuttoing off the top of the guitar, you'll get a higher framerate and there'll be no blur

  • i love this.. great job

  • Thanks for showing some great, overlooked Sabbath

  • Thanks for showing some great, overlooked Sabbath

  • Hey man thanks a lot. Pantera + Sabbath, yes!

  • Awesome lesson man thanks!!

  • my pleasure, rock on

  • My all time favourite Sabs track, you've done a top job on that solo.

I'm just in the process of trying to master the outro to 'Snowblind', when that sorted I shall be looking at your lesson very closely. If I could only ever play one Sabbath track all the way through this would be it.

    Well done and keep rockin,

  • Hey You wouldnt have a tab for that blacksabbath intro live in paris? would you? if you did id be the happiest man on this earth lol..

  • I will definitely prepare a tab for it, but it's not ready now. Yeah great piece of music.

  • thank you so much!

the only intro for " black sabbath" is the live evil one. but that one is no where near as good as the live in paris, no where near.

  • what i ment was the only tab i could find on the internet was for the one off the live evil one

  • thanks ; ashamed to say I don't own Live Evil. Have to grab it despite the not-as-brilliant intro!

  • Yeah, the only sabbath i like is with ozzy, with out him it isnt the same. i hate dio so bad LOL.

Yeah I dont know why tony iommi never played that intro he did in the live in paris video? i wonder if he forgot how to do it lol.

    sometimes bands are funny.

like zepppelin and sabbath have some great songs but some they will never perform live hardly at all its strange if you think about it.

and some of the songs they never do live is like the best ones lol

  • I think Sabbath Bloody Sabbath and National Acrobat are good examples of what you're talking about. Two of my favorite tunes but rarely played live.

I have tremendous respect for Dio, and cannot stop listening to the new H&H record. If The Devil You Know had been released on vinyl, then the tunes Bible Black and Eating the Cannibals would be worn through on my copy by now. Check it out, I shitteth you not.

  • yes exactly.

national acrobat is one of my fav songs by them, i love that main riff its so catchy haha.

You should do some sabbath covers on here, id love to see them, nobody can play sabbath like you man. its always a pleasure to watch your videos.

my aunt says " sabbath worships the devil" Because like the songs talk about the deviil like " bible black" she just doesnt understand.

she heard me playing NIB and she fliped out on me. shes a " holy roller" she just moved in with me sucks.

  • Really!? I sometimes think of Sabbath as the first Christian rock band! To quote:

Have you ever thought about your soul can it be saved?

...is christ just a name that that you read in books when you were at school?

...I think it is true it was people like you who crucified christ..

    etc etc etc

Dude, that's totally Holy Roller stuff. Play that for your aunt, she'll probably end up playing After Forever for her church group, telling them what a nice band her nephew turned her on to. Try it!

  • well yeah i think that too.

    Haha, i will man.. thanks

But you should seriously put some videos of you covering these sabbath songs man i would love to see you play the whole song man.

  • they never did the warning live much either.

i dont remember if i mention in the last commnet

  • Oh yeah '' A national acrobat'' is just awesome tune!

  • How many years have you played? And a National Acrobat has a sweet tune you should try that =)

  • are you gonna be posting any new sabbath videos sometime in the future?

  • yes, it' s been too long. Coming up next (but not sure when):

    War Pigs

    Behind the Wall of Sleep

    Orchid

Fast unaccompanied lead break in Wicked World

    Black Sabbath Paris intro

    Bible Black (Heaven and Hell)

Too much to do, not enough days and nights ... rock on

  • im so excited waiting on the paris intro on " blacksabbath" i been wanting to learn that for ever THERE IS NO TAB ON It. and orchid too. wow man your are so awesome and a great teacher, i learned the " nib" solo from you, im gonna post it on day, still some timing issues on it. but i think its pretty good for the most part. but that paris intro, did you learn it by ear? its so creepy. tony iommi really did know how to capture that scary feeling. in my eyes him and jimmy page are the bes.

  • I dont know how to play the guitar at all but i might look into it, I'm only 16 so i cant decide between guitar or drums, anyway nice you play really well =) ...you make my dad seem like a joke =P He spend a week learning the Rover by Led Zeppelin...ok shutting up now...

  • When faced with a choice do both!

  • Doc need advise Marshall JTM45 would give me the right tone for Sabbath.I'm in the market for a new amp.

  • I haven't played this model. Looking at Tony's amps through the years I know he's played Laneys and Mesa Boogies. As long as you're ready to buy a stack, why not check out the Iommi signature Laney? If you want get really sick check out Krank stacks. The most important thing is not rush this. Play a lot of diff amps with your own guitar and think it over for a while. Don't get the first amp that sounds heavy in the store. I am looking at Egnater amps, being also in the market for a new amp.

  • thank you so much! for tabs... now i play it good but not so good like you! P.S. nice 67, cheers from Mexico,!!!

  • Thanks very much. Rock on

  • beautiful guitar and very nice playing

i have a 1965 gibson sg i inherited from my grandfather

  • Thanks a lot. Have to confess I'm jealous of your 65. But I'm very happy with my 67

It just struck me how cool your grandfather must have been!

  • hahah ya man!

  • let's see that beast!

  • my web cam doesnt work with my new computer but i could try throwing up some pictures

  • Yeah some photos would be great! Wouldn't mind hearing some stories about your grandfather, too ... what kind of music did he play with that '65 SG?

  • Your understanding of this solo is uncanny. I've seen various live Black Sabbath shows over many, many years and feel compelled to say that even Iommi himself does not always play his own (studio) solo's this perfectly...you're not only a great player but a great teacher as well.

  • Best fuckïng cover on youtube!

  • thanks loads! rock on

  • Few guitarists really understand this solo, its one piece of work. Good job!

  • Muito bom mesmo. Se você puder fazer mais lições de músicas como The Wizard ou Sabbath Bloody Sabbath. Talvez Snowblind.

Obrigado e muito boa aula (:

  • This song NEVER gets it's due. AWESOME tune. You sir, do it justice. THANK YOU!

  • Hey man thanks a lot - judging from your favorites you take your guitar seriously. Appreciate your words. Rock on.

  • Excellent

  • holy shit. Never seen anyone play this. well done man. Im so impressed.

check out my paranoid solo if you could. I rock it as perfect as this cover

  • I think this is awsome dude. Thanks for the great lesson. I've wanted to learn these solo's for years. I'm a big Sabbath fan and this is just awsome.

  • I love the slides up the neck, true Iommi fashion!

  • Hey man thanks - the devil's in the details isn't it?

  • you should post some metallca lessons

  • thats some classic sabbath . thanks for the tutorial .

  • My pleasure - such a cool tune, great guitar work...

    rock on

  • Hey doctornerve, i tryed out this first part, and i must say that im not good enough for this yet, i know ive been asking a lot, but any solo's that might be like a little easier than this one thanks.

    /Charixy

  • The guitar solo and various solo licks in Alice Cooper's 18 would be a good workout for you in Em pentatonic

  • ohhhh ok thanks i thought soo keep on rockin"]

  • sure!

    rock on

  • is this in the key of D? or somthing else

  • yes, D minor pentatonic

  • Man you're great!!!

  • Excellent stuff. Many thanks indeed for taking the time to share this with aspiring guitarists everywhere.

  • Wow thanks for posting this. One of the best tunes ever written.

    I'm half way through it

  • Very good the lesson! How you it makes to take off the guitar of music? It is some program?

You have entire music in tablatura? She is one of musics most difficult of if decorating of the Black Sabbath

    Until more!

  • I do not remove the guitar from the original record.

I create my own backing track with bass and drums, using audio samples of drums and bass guitar, and a music program.

Sorry I only have the guitar solos in tablature.

  • Excellent work! I play in a Sabbath cover band and I'll be the first to admit you taught me a thing or two that I was doing wrong. Thank you! Keep up the amazing job and videos.

Need the other guys in my band to learn this; well have the whole first album!

You rock! Best wishes to your band. That Doctor Nerve tune "Plague" is pretty cool! I'd love to come down to the city to check you out live some day. Your influences are great too...Sabbath, Alice Cooper, Zappa, Motorhead, Bartok! :-)

  • Hey man I'm honored to hear this from you, especially given your dedication to covering Sabbath in your band.

Thanks for the nice words about Doctor Nerve. "Plague" was inspired in part by Motorhead's "Mean Machine" (Orgasmatron record), but departs pretty quickly.

Keep me updated on your band.

    Rock on

    Nick

  • amazing! really really good job man

  • man i can't stop watching this, it's so perfect as if iommi himself is playing it's amaaaazing

  • Pretty intense compliment - thanks very much!

  • Very good and interesting,peace

  • Thanks. Yes, peace.

  • Excellent! All your lessons are 100% correct, and they are very helpful. You're an experienced guitar player that knows how to get that genuine, Tony Iommi sound. You must be a very big fan of him, just like me.

What solos are up next? Children of the Grave? The Straightener?

(Sorry if my English is poor, I'm from the Nordic countries).

  • Thanks very much. Your English is better than my Swedish, Danish, Finnish, Icelandic, Greenlandic, and Faroese. So no worries! I will be preparing a lesson for the solo in Black Sabbath (the tune that started it all!), and Children of the Grave, both left and right channel solos.

  • Thanks for taking the time to teach the solos. I have got down 1 and 2 of ironman. now am working on warning. also am falling in love with my 1971 SG all over again.

    peace

  • Hey thanks for favoriting this lesson. '71 SG = realnice!

  • Thanks very much! been looking for this for a long time but not been able to find tabs even till now. Great work for a beautiful solo.

  • Just wanted to thank you for these lessons, they are awesome!

  • Thanks much!

  • you're awesomeeee man you rock

  • Perfect!!!

  • Damn, you are an awesome guitar player! You couldnt have picked a better song to demonstrate either!

  • freakin impressive!

  • cool that would be awesome!!

  • please make more videos of tony iommi's solos

  • thanks dude this is great!! if you ever get the time you should do the Behind the wall of sleep solo.

  • Behind the wall of sleep has a great solo. Such a cool eerie tune. Thanks I'll seriously consider it.

  • hey dude, i cant thank u enough for ur tablature i added to my favs and printed ur are my ultimate tab privder lol..thanks man

    Miltownfan

  • Thanks very much for favoriting this lesson!

  • That was sweet mate

  • You are my new favourite person.

I have the basic solo structure down, but I end up doing my own thing more than copying it exactly and it doesnt nearly as good. You sound exactly like him.

  • finally someone that can play that.

  • What amp is that your playing on, and what settings do you use to get that Sabbath tone?

    P.s. Awesome playing!!!

  • Thanks! Equipment is listed at the end of the video... I used a Line6 Flextone II amp with mild gain, and a Krank Distortus Maxmus also with just a little gain. I think the tones mix really nicely; the P-90 pickups are probably the major players here. Glad you liked it.

  • What guitar is that?

  • It's a 1967 Gibson SG Special with P-90's. I love this creature...

  • Wow, this is outstanding, I have always loved this track, now it is time to dust off my guitar and have a go at this, thanks.

  • Wonderful lesson, you play it flawless. Very cool, hope you will do sleeping village or wall of sleep solo soon.

  • Black Sabbath is so much better than king krimson! Man this was good you are very cool for learning this I really can't believe how cool Tony Iommi is! To have been able to copy somewhat is great as hell! Can you jam some tunes without the lesson sometime please? Thanks a lot!

  • If you want to see some non-lesson guitar playing you might enjoy going to my videos and checking out "Whitney Live: TRASH...", "Whitney Live: We'll Ask the Questions Around Here", and "BONE: Big Bombay"

  • verry good

  • Thank you for these great lessons, they are fantastic. I hope you will keep producing them, they are a great help in learning the beginning components of soloing.

  • hell yeah

  • Good Job!! :)
