@CADtekk Certainly I think "growth" has gone weird. Probably people younger than us are growing into this world in such a way that it makes complete sense to them and they'll be able to expand upon the new technologies like there was never anything before them. We're getting old, aren't we? All generations have this feeling at some point! :)
I wonder what Tim Hunkin would have to say about all the new technology, and his sidekick Rex?
Its true about everything being modular based now, including cars!! Would dread taking a Prius apart!!! I used to show the videos in Science and Technology classes so lets hope I switched someone on?
Another problem with old technogy is that most people have chucked it out.Try finding a video player now to play all those VHS tapes, let alone Betamax!!!
this is classic, mixed with classy style, ill take you for a run, a mile in my shoes hun, its what you want, you just dont know that yet, just come cruise, and ill put that in your head, at ease, just ooze with the flow, you already know, how i run this show, from head to toe, im hip-hop and soul, reggae lovers rock, to the tip-top road,
Good Reggae representation of a Jazz Classic. It's a tough one to translate to Reggae. Not tough in the sense of difficult but tough because you risk being flamed by purists. The 5/4 time signature was one of the main points of the original. I'm sure translating this to common time grates against some traditionalists. But keeping it in 5/4 wouldn't produce the undeniable Reggae feel that this rendition has. Keeping the first 3 bars in 5/4 time is a nice nod to this songs origins.
@JamesBondXD It originally screened in the UK on Channel 4 1988-1993 in 3 Series, I recorded them all at the time on VHS and have recently converted them to DVD, Tim Hunkins no nonsense, bone basic approach appealed to me and fired up my interest in engineering and machinery as the first series was on in '88 when I was 9 years old. Class tune though!
aww I love this tune its ace I saw "The secret Life of Machines" originally back in '88 with Tim Hunkin and rex Garrod. This tune was used in the whole series intro ending and selected other hi 5
Yes. Secret Life of Machines. An old-school technical geek's version of porno. Tim hunkin and Rex Garrod hosted this awesome bbc show that explained the origins of modern (80's-90's) technology. This was the theme song. Ahh memories....
I always got the impression of this show being a great "we break things to see their insides so you don't have to" And I do mean "great;" I loved this show, and thank Discovery Channel for carrying it years ago.
@maibeppu9 Quite possibly! Or science and technology in general; just the pleasure of taking things apart and seeing how they work. Nowadays you wouldn't be able to make the same programme; think about what you could take apart that would be interesting in the same way. mp3 players, laptops, flat screen TVs, digi boxes - they're all just different configurations of seemingly identical, largely unmoving computer parts.
OK, I invite you to look up "Take 5" anywhere. While this may have been performed extensively by Dave Brubeck's group, Paul Desmond is the one consistently given credit for authorship of "Take 5". Paul was a member of Dave's group.
I've loved this song ever since I heard it years ago as the theme tune to "The Secret Life of Machines." Although I didn't know at the time that it was actually a cover of an older tune, I have now heard both and this one definitely takes the cake.

Well, it is a cover of or reinterpretation of Paul Desmond's "Take Five" in reggae...not exactly Take Five itself.
rchandraonline 2 years ago
@rchandraonline Paul Desmond was merely the saxophonist in Dave Brubeck's quartet.
michaeltgrace 2 years ago
...which IIRC Paul was credited with composing "Take Five." I may be wrong, but that's what I recall.
rchandraonline 2 years ago
@rchandraonline That's very interesting...I'll have to look into that. Regardless. Wonderful tune.

Paul Desmond ? Take 5 was originay done by Dave Bruebeck!

@rchandraonline
just my two cents worth here, but I read that Take5 was written by the drummer -dont know his name- not the sax player or Brubeck ???
we do indeed live n learn kevjkx ;D
cool version of a killer tune!!
stOOpid68 2 years ago
@stOOpid68 dunno about him writing it but Brubeck's drummer on Take 5 was Joe Morello.
