  • Wasn't able to comment on the prequels, but OMG Sandy Duncan as a youngster was just the TEXTBOOK DEFINITION of CUTE!!!

  • I was in love with Irene. And kinzie was a strong black women and raised a strong black man. FREDDIE VEAL III

  • Just seeing the opening credits makes my heart lurch into sadness. Such unbelievable wickedness.

  • Sad fate for George to be slowly losing his mind and dignity. Such are the ravages of time. At least, he had his triumphs after so long in the first series.

  • All white Americans are Ass holes bastards born in Drunken STD orgies they stole blacks from Africa now they are stealing oil from Iraq,Libya Afghans...planning to do it from Iran too.Burn in Hell all of you money hungry ass holes.A

  • @PAKZINDA1 still managed to own all you pissants and take over your countries didn't we? what you lot ever done excpet beg "NO MASSA"

  • @Larryboy12345 this.

  • There's an upload of Alex Haley on the game show "To Tell The Truth". You can see an actual photograph with Haley and his relatives that he discovered in the Gambia.

  • THATS SO FUNNY BECAUSE I WAS SO IN-LOVE WITH IRENE CARA & HER ROLE... IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY...*

  • why didnt ben vereen reprise his role?

  • I had the biggest crush on Carrie. lol. Her and James were so cute together.

  • @dragons73 me neither... I just watched the entire thing yesterday for the first time, and now im at the next generation part. The guy who plays chicken george is a lame character, role, and actor... The old chicken george had swaggg

  • I don't care for this actor that's playing George

  • they will never show this now on t.v.

talking about riots & civil unrest!!!!

blacks would surely kill the whites & enslave them.

i wouldn't have a white slave cause they can't cook

    smh

    lol

  • @NAVYWIFEONE roots used to be on tv, in 1977. most of my teachers said they watched it

  • @TheMidnightSnackGuy my grandma loved it i was like in 5th grade or so i had no idea what roots was but now i see why she loved it so my grandfather was a pullman porter he was almost 100 he passed like 2 yrs ago everyone called them "george" back then his name was edward i am almost 40 & jut saw roots good

  • Well this part of ROOTS is not apart of the book in that great of detail , But I don't care about all of that this Series brings light to the struggles that black people were faced with and I think whether its fiction or not it is true because all this may have not happened in his family but it happened to many others and he's just telling the story

  • chicken george! it's a good name for em' chicken strutin & crowin a dirty ole rooster & his poached eggs!!!!!!

    lol =)

  • I think that Roots shows what happened in American history, but it also gives insight into the experiences and struggles of black people around the globe. I mean, slavery also took place in countries like Jamaica and Barbados, plus many more, so I do NOT consider this to be just American history.

  • so who was Sally supposed to be?

  • They need to show this/original on tv sometime. BET, Centric, tvone, somebody.

  • was slavery over then-or what was that the time segregation was going on

  • @leelee9112 By this time, slavery was over. It was segregation.

  • i like the chicken george in the other roots and whts with the word niggger

  • @leelee9112 They were so used to being called that, they just continued to call each other that...Just like today.

  • I agree with xeon, they should have worked something out with Ben Vereen! This guy was NO CHICKEN GEORGE!

  • He's Chicken George. accept him. it doesn't matter who is portraying him. He's a Legend.

  • Henry Fonda tho...really!

  • love Willona in this!!

  • I CAN TELL BY THESE SICK STUPID COMMENTS, PPL ARE WATCHING THIS FOR THE WRONG REASONS.

  • @SHABAZZTRIBE LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • the new chicken george was nothing like the other chicken george, the other guy was funnier :(

  • @kitty4119 True, the other Chicken George was A Frightful very bit Funny.

  • wait , idont get it ; this is what happened after they left the plantation ???

  • Love the new Chicken George.

  • The teacher played "Barbara" on the television show, Good Times. Barbara was J.J.'s married girlfriend. B.T.W., this shit is boring, so far.

  • Why didnt they use Ben Vereen to continue as Chicken George ?

  • At 10:08 is that the guy who played Johnboy on The Waltons?

  • @jityr2 Richard Thomas. John Boy, from The Waltons.

  • Is any of this a true story? Or is it all just similar to how things were during and after slavery. At the end of the original series Alex Haley makes it sound like a true story.

  • @jityr2 Roots is based on Alex Haley's family tree...his grandmother told him stories as a child of his great, great grandpa kipnapped from Africa. So when he grew up he traveled to Africa gather info from the tribe who shared his ancestor's last name and camp and started penning Roots over the course of a few yrs. Of course we can't say for sure if even event was accurate or he-say, she-say but supposedly its mostly accurate. Hope that helps.

  • @TheGlobalMisfit The Wiki article of Kunta Kinte says Alex Haley was the seventh generation of Kunta Kinte. Would that make Alex Haley the great great great great great grandson of Kunta Kinte?

  • @jityr2 Well according to Alex Haley, yes, he is the seventh generation of Kunta Kinte's family tree....Roots gets tricky and innacurate though, because in "Roots Generations", Tom, Kunta Kinte's great grandson Tom has two daughters with no mention of a son, but in the original Roots, Tom has a son, no daughter. That's why some began to criticize if Alex Haley's tale was true because of missing characters in the original and spinoff. lol Who knows? Its pretty interesting regardless.

  • @TheGlobalMisfit Roots also has a speical called ROOTS The Gift. It was a short story between the 18 years from Kunta being a teenager (Lavar) to a man (John Amos)

During ROOTS The Gift Kunta lived during the Nat Turner Virgina Rebellion, However during the oringnal ROOTS Chicken George lived during Nate Turner's leadership when was in his late 20 or early 30's. Kunta had been dead for about 20 years already.

  • @Mrbaltimore2001 I'll have to look that up now....thanks for the heads up! Yeah, it crazy how some mismatched timelines really make u wonder how accurately Haley had traced his family tree. I've heard that Haley went to court due to a lawsuit from an author (unsure of his name) who wrote "The African". I still respect him though for exposing an important part of American history. Black or white, we can learn quite a bit.

  • @TheGlobalMisfit Hey I did look into the story for ROOTS The Gift. It wasn't actually Nat Turner Kunta. It was a close simarly story of the Nat Turner's revolt in VA.

  • @TheGlobalMisfit This is 12 years later, the son would be an adult by now, on his own. The daughters are younger and that could explain why they were not seen. Just trying to figure a way to make it make sense, I guess.

  • @jityr2 Roots is based on Alex Haley's family tree...his grandmother told him stories as a child of his great, great grandpa, Kunta Kinte kipnapped from Africa. • this actor portraying George is Avon Long a vereran actor who played on Boradway & moves

  • I hate to say it but I think Alex Haley's Roots was some if not all fictional, I read a lot of stuff about how it is. But I'm sure similar things like this happened all throughout slavery times. But anyways, no matter if it's real or not I really do love this movie.

  • What the hell...they ruined Chicken George. Appreciate the upload, though.

  • im glad tom was born hes more like kunta

  • Fonda should've played Lincoln.

  • The Next Generation got good ratings but it did have several discrepancies which led many to believe that Alex Haley's ROOTS was largely fiction. Many dates and accounts in both movies did not add up. And there were many family members that were not addressed properly. Tom and Irene Harvey both just were removed from the series with no explanation as to how they died in the series.

  • what happened to Tom Harvey's son

  • nigga republican? I like that. It's funny!

  • WTF? When was there a next generation :o

  • wat happend to bud

  • what happened to tom's brothers lewis and virgil?? Did they just desert the family???

  • @dakboyyall i know Roots generation has so many innaccuarcise with the first one..Like didn't Tom Harvey have a son..I remember the scene in the first one, after he gets whooped by the early Ku Klux Klan and is on the table he tells them to get his son out of the room so he wouldn't see him like that

  • ben vereen was not able to play the role of chicken george the second time around because he was on broadway doin a play at the time and couldt do it

  • New Chick George ...hilarious Hyper tone..

  • I agree with some of the comments about ben vareen should have continued to play his role as chicken george in the Next Generations of Roots. It would have been more realistic*********

  • Kunta Kinte rules!!!!!!

  • i didnt see the white george ....(not being racist)

  • @smaschannel this country, the USA its a country full of lies and broken promises

  • I am from Gambia i love this movie

  • @hotcocosk8er Aw, isn't that sweet. Fully understand why the 'comments' were disabled for Roots. Your an embarassment to white people.

  • now i get why they don't let you comment on some videos. HELLO PEOPLE IT'S CALLED OLD AGE AND HIS WIFE DIED you would act wierd to. and to the person who posted the vids thank you i'am enjoying everyone of them :)

  • Thanks for posting this series. We all need to look back at this and learn the value and power of the black family..

  • aaaaaaa

  • you know watching roots makes you want to value the black family life and the struggles it has edured since the abolishment of slavery. i hope that one day when i get married i can continue and create a bond like this similar to alex haley's family black marrige and black family=BLACK POWER!

  • race was never a problem in this country, the social class system of democracy is a problem in this country and because of plessey vs furguson 1896 we had jim crow segregation which led to the economic divide between blacks and whites called sepreate but equal think about it! it is the supreme court that dictates the constitution not the people or the legislative branch! so what does that make are democracy? A dictatorship with contradictions!

  • What people must understand is that this is not Black History, it is American History. It is very important that we as a country not forget that slavery and the fight for equality affects us all regardless of color. Many of the issues that exist today within communities of color are direct results of our failure for equal rights for all people of every color, all men and all women. We must not forget the past to build a promising future of our country. Only one races matters. The Human race.

  • @ABSAT01 Yes, I agree with you...God created us equal...One blood, one fleshed. Everyone has the right to embrace freedom, respect, protection, education, happiness, love and respect...Everyone has the right to live in this world regardless of the color of the skin, religion, and race...After all WE are all God' s People...God bless us to all..

  • @ABSAT01 Couldn't have said it better myself. Very True

  • @ABSAT01 thank you my friend for saying that! I preach that wherever i go. if u r an american citizen and you have a history here, then its my history, too. native american, jewish-amer., asian-amer., etc. doesn't matter! it's my history too because it should and does effect everyone around you.

  • @ABSAT01 No, it's about black history.

  • @FIGHT4ANONYMOUS Hardly takes into account all the black people that didn't move to America does it? It's a combination, but that's just semantics.

  • @ABSAT01 It's true that the fight for equality affects everyone, but certain groups are more affected than others. Yes, everyone may experience discrimination regardless of their color, but the struggles of black people seem to continue, even in 2011.

  • That is the worst chicken george ever. Did they have crack back then, something to think about.

  • @1977Sink i know i dont know why ben vereen couldnt finsh playing chicken george.

  • better when they were slaves

  • THANK U FOR POSTIN ... I WATCHED THE FIRST ROOTS ... AND I WANTED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPEN AFTER THEY WERE FREED...THANK U !!!!

  • That bit about a 'colored girl reading Elizabeth Barret Brown' is hilariously ironic considering I've read Browning had African ancestry.

  • dope !! but is this tha whole roots next generation ?

  • this videos funny, because black people make it funny :D

  • you are a boss for posting this

  • hate the new chicken george

  • @rap33r100 I agree!!! Ben Vereen was so much better!!!

  • @rap33r100 I can understand that Chicken George could have been losing his cognitive abilities in his latter years, I just wish they didn't portray him to look like someone out of an insanity asylum.

  • I haven't watch this movie in forever. This movie is what attracted me to Richard Thomas.

  • IMISSCHICKEN GEORGE

  • i miss kunta kinte and kizzy!!!:(

  • This is why some people are uneasy when it comes to racism and blacks and whites look how we were treated in the first generations!

  • You are wonderful to post these!

  • how did they get sooo old so fast and happened to the old chicken george????

  • @superdes94 He died

  • I just got The first series of roots, I'm definetley going to get the next generation.

  • What happened to the grin on the original Chicken George , he's lost his humour and his brilliant face.

  • they kook to old

  • Not matter what race you are this series should remind you how precious family and time really is. Time moves fast like it does in real life.

  • Wow! you really did post these! Thanx...Im subscibing...

  • Thank you!!!

  • Finally. thank u

  • I've been looking for this for at least 2 years. Thanks 1000 times for uploading this.

  • I knew there was another part of Mr. Haley's "Roots Saga". Thank you for posting this one. I can only hope that others will enjoy this too.

  • LOL...why do they always have to LOOK so old. Just 12 years ago in Roots Irene and Tom looked very young. Did they really age THAT much in 12 years???

  • @MsLoveMe27 lol I agree. They made them look way too old.

  • @MsLoveMe27 maybe cuz old age was 60-somethin back then. they were probly middle-age when they hit 30 but yeah they do look freakin old

  • @dcchick77 in twelve years they go from lookiing 25 to 60?

  • @THeAppleFanKiD1912 i said they look old! im tryin 2 understand too!

  • @THeAppleFanKiD1912 To me Tom wasn't aged that badly but Irene was aged very badly. Maybe the stress of being black at that time and health issues aged them very quickly.

  • @THeAppleFanKiD1912 yah, it's about the only flaw with both productions. They show the people aging more in 15 years than they have in real life and we're talking 30 years. Oh well, small complaint for an amazing series =)

  • @dcchick77 nah, not neccesarily, many folks black and white in these times and before ( slave dayss ) many actually lived well int o 80s 90s, many folks were proven to be over 100 when they died, slavery is wrogn but the constant activity did hve some part increasign there lives ( if the y survived the abuse and shit ) btu even with out beign a slave per say, yes back then there was many ppl who did live to to olden years ;-)

  • cool I never knew this existed

  • @wufutofu same here, just watched part of it on true movies

  • thank you so much

  • I miss Ben Vereen :(

  • my god, thank you sooooo much for this. been looking everywhere for this. you are sooo awesome for putting this up. dont know how to thank you : D im so happy i found thissss...
