motherships are too weak, yes the 750 hp/shield is good, but since it has the cloaking field it becomes the only target the enemies really go for, the abilities are nice, but not worth the exclusiveness of only being able to have one. i mean its huge training time and the fact they can only be produced from nexus is limiting enough
i got a beta key like 2 weeks ago, i was addicted to the game for about a week, and havent played it in a week now... it gets boring lol its more exciting to watch commentaries of the game honestly..
Unfortunately, I don't have access to the beta which is why I'm salivating over all of these gameplay videos lol. So tell me, have they removed abilities like the planet cracker? How does the game as a whole play? =)
To be perfectly honest, I played it almost constantly for about 4-5 days then got tired of it.
I have always really loved Starcraft but it just seems like every single game in SC2 ends up being exactly the same. I mean it was probably this way in SC1 too and I just never thought about it. I guess nostalgia for the original made me anticipate this one's release a LOT and I wanted it really bad but now it's just kinda boring. =/ I havent even played in weeks.
Ha, i'll have your beta key if you don't want it. ;)
Yeah i guess that's what they get for making the game so similar to the first one. Although the amount of shit they would have gotten from the Koreans if they had changed anything major would have caused riots. I played the first one when I was about eight and it was the first game I got really into apart from Baldurs Gate. Maybe you'll get back into it later?
@mwaned It actually WAS designed to be a super ship. It had all kinds of amazing powers like the ability to slow down incoming projectiles, a "planet cracker" laser that obliterated bases, insane fire power and shielding, etc. It was just nerfed into oblivion to the point that it's now just a unique arbiter. It WAS a super ship, but now it isn't, now it's just an arbiter. We'd be better off with regular arbiters because you didn't have a limit on how many of them you could use...
Seriously think they should scrap the mothership and put back the arb or keep the mothership.
And @ NeoDMC u r completely right but the arbiter was easier to micro and faster and the mothership basically had the same abilities and u could hav large amounts of em
It's too weak to only be allowed 1 of them at a time.
However the abilities that make it good aren't thrown away completely. They'll be in the single player. but that makes up for nothing for a lot of people.
Hopefully modded matches become popular when this game hits the shelves.
@blixexxx000 still have black hole, except it doesn't kill. but it still lasts for a staggering 20 seconds! planet cracker doesn't belong in starcraft, why would you want to control a mothership which is doing planet cracker while a good enemy is just dodging it and by using the planet cracker you can't micro the rest of your army
Maybe this is because the mother-ship isn't suppose to be a completely direct combat unit. I notice none of the mother ships special abilities were used why didn't you try one of them.
Blizzard it's self, in the description of the mothership calls it "The Most Powerful Weapon" the protoss have.
Basically it's a beefed up arbiter, that's all. It has the same exact abilities from the aoe cloak to the mass recall to the aoe CC power. It's all the same as an arbiter except it has 50% more hitpoints than a carrier and 300% more shielding, but it's weapons are sub-par.
Arbiters were better by far. They had less durability, but you could have several at once unlike the carrier.
Also, just for the record, none of it's abilities would've saved it from a carrier raping it. Best it could do is CC the carrier preventing it from taking action, but the carrier it's self becomes unkillable while it's controlled. So either way, carrier will always win, regardless of what powers you use.
Furthermore I haven't posted videos of it but it only takes 3 Corruptors to kill the thing, 2 can almost do it. Only takes maybe 5 Hydralisks.
@Kathygamer actually, I believe the shields on the MS will regenerate, and a LOT during this time, where as the carrier's shields don't. Even if both shields regenerate, this could be cast right before the MS dies and the MS would still win because it would regenerate like what? 250 sp more than the carrier? then when the carrier comes out the MS would have much more total hp and win.
Shields only regenerate while not taking damage for several seconds, they don't regenerate constantly like they did in SC1.
In theory if you blackholed every single interceptor twice in a row you "might" could regen enough shielding to beat the carrier, but it's unlikely and certainly not realistic in a real combat situation.
The reality is since a mothership cloaks everything around it, it becomes a huge target and is destroyed first and very quickly because it's weak.
@Kathygamer where did I say that they regen constantly? I know its different, based on what I've seen in the beta videos, after about 7 seconds shield regen is so fast that over the course of a vortex, both ships would be back to full shields. This gives MS 150 more sp. The interceptors would inevitably be caught in the vortex because they occasionally attempt to return to the carrier.
This was after the patch that nerfed it. I mean they royally screwed the mother ship in every way imaginable... Increased build time, increased food cost, decreased hitpoints, decreased shielding, decreased damage...
Complete nerfage. :) A single carrier can kill one, how ridiculous. :)

Mothership became a complete joke. They should just replace it with arbiter.

They should just give the Terrans and Zerg their own "Epic Unit" instead of nerfing the Mothership.

I`d have to call it the worse unit in the game. Mothership should be removed, replaced

damn nerf. Tons of nerf, no more black hole, time bomb, wormhole, and my favorite planet cracker. Not to mention that stats and damage.

Yup.
They turned it from a unique superunit into an arbiter with more HP and a cooler model.
Completely pointless.

a carrier destroyed a mothership...
Why all the hype of such a powerful unit and then getting owned by a carrier??!?
