@AssassinSteven Correct! Eddie confessed during his time with Peavey, that all his Plexi's where actually stock. He used a power attenuator to get the tone. On the first Van Halen album he actually cranked up the amp that far, so he could get some speaker distortion as well...
This is sounds incredible! I have a Mesa Stiletto Ace which sounds very similar, but I have 2 V30's - What is kind of difference do you hear with the G12H30?
all this Plexi cloners are speculating about their amps, 2000 is a robbery for this kind of amps, they all sound the same when cranked, they have transparent limpid and in your face gain.
most differences you get from the pick up and speaker your using! also the type of Boost/OD is important!
The world may never know. All eddie talks about now is how a fender 5150 (stage 3) is nailing that tone? I guess Mojave and Voodoo,MC, and Mike Morin will no longer be needed! Total denial !!!
Ouch, where'd you hear that????? At least you got part of it right, the "magic" Marshall didnt contain any mods per se. It was reputedly a stock 1968 Marshall 100 watt Plexi. Mark Cameron was inside that amp, and did agree that it was a stock circuit, but one may never know if it had been in a different format prior to Marks encounter with it. I think Jose was probably responsible mainly for the load box which Ed used for reamping the Plexi (if he was really doing that)
i dont know bout that but do you really think MC would tell ppl that it was modded? what if he was told NOT to tell anybody or get sued ya know? plus we wouldnt tell anybody of a tone that ppl are after
Wow man this amp sounds absolutely insane. I have a JVM 410h and was thinking of seeing what Trace and the boys at Voodoo could do to it just for the hell of it! Sounds great man!
Was the amp fairly lifeless before the mod, my is sorta dead without the ts9 pedal then it comes to life. I'm seriously considering sending the metro to voodoo.
It wasn't lifeless at all but it didn't have the amount of gain it does now. The mod is not just about gain though it has plenty. The feel of the amp is more fluid and also it is more articulate.
Damn, thats it! I have a Metro 12000 series 100 plexi I want to have modded. I can't that sizzle unless I hook up the ts9. Are you sure your not juicing the front end of this amp?
There is a delay effect on this clip...I doubt there is any difference in the amp...Than the other (pre) clip. My midiverb does the same thing to the tone...That is all...My rig sounds the same as this.
Nice vintage Avatar 2 12 cab. Which speakers did you load it with? Do you think the Avatar cab sounds s good as..let's say a Marshall with similar speakers? The Vintage cab is made with thicker birch plywood than their other cabs.
YOU HAVE A DREAM MACHINE THERE! its all ther drive sustain harmonics. amazing. I HAVE A 6100 AND I DONT THINK IT WILL DO THIS WELL. YOU EVER PUT A THD ON THAT AND GET SOME POWER TUBE CLIPPING? I WOULD LIKE TO HEAR THAT!!!
It sounds great! I have exactly the same head I got it from one of my students, but I don't have the speaker and I don't want to expend money, I play clasical guitar, so I want to sell it, I don't know how much this head costs. Could you please tell me how valuable is this head?
Hey Mel, this clip sounds suspiciously like some of the playing on Dave Bray's website? Did he have something to do with this amp as well??? I have talked with someone there at Voodoo about the Jose HG mod for my Bray 1987x as well. just trying got put the cash together by selling a few things off.
G'day mate, I just read some of the most shocking reviews about any amp ever: the Marshall 1959HW head: issues such as constantly manlfunctioning transformers, blown fuses, bad soldering, incorrect wire lenghts - all this on Marshall most expensive head and this was from the MAJORITY of reviews (Harmony Central). Did you have any issues with your STOCK Plexi (I'm assuming it's a 1959HW? Dicks to buying one now. Your Voodoo Modified Plexi sounds beefy as fark - better than Splawns version.
*warning mesa biased* wow that almost sounds like a dual rec. lol. i have never been a fan of marshall amps. avoid them at all costs. but this sounds really badass. it screams with that marshall sizzle but has a thick mid and the low end is definately there.your amp sounds way effin nice. too bad its still a marshall...kinda.lol. major props on a great tone. when i can get some extra time i plan on getting a pre mod clip of my '94 rack mount "blackface" dual rec. then my after mod clip
WOW !! I had a 1987x reissue bray mod and while it was gtood.. this definitly sounds WAY better. Great tone there dude !! what was the cost of this mod if you dont mind me asking? and which series marshall is this? 1987x ???
Thanks for the info. I had a Bray modded 1987x, and I really didnt' care for it. This clip sounds head and shoulders above anything I was able to get out of it. I wonder how the Jose HG mod compares to Voodoo's V-Rock amp.
