  • well he cant put the team on his back like greg jennings obviously

  • no reason to think it was intentional, Mitchell was on the other end of a hit like that earlier in his career.

  • he did feel bad he had his arm on his back... sometimes you get carried away, it actually did not look intentional

  • that was just a stupid fucking hit theres no point in hitting him like that from behind. Nystrom was at least going for the puck and got his stick caught into Feduns skate not trying to kill him from behind

  • FEDUNN! NOOO!!

  • And now 2 years later Taylor Fedun suffers the same fate...

  • @maxthepax1 same spot same place..

  • Sucks for u

  • Fbal is brutal no doubt but IMO i believe hockey is much worse.

They're like gladiators out there.Their equipment can kill one another. They skate much faster to hit someone than an average football player would run to tackle someone. And to top it off there are no out of bounds in the NHL unlike football, if you have the puck you cant run out to avoid the hit the you have to take it like a man.Hockey is a much quicker sport were anything can happen unexpectedly. Hitting is Fball is inevitable

  • GO SHARKS!!!

  • its so sad that nowdays NHL players use the Boarding penalty to their advantage in exchange of dangering themselves to incidents like this one. he did'nt even try to take the tackle he did break to get the boarding call. sorry my spelling isnt the best

  • People who are leaving comments saying that hockey players are babies and can't take a hit. I bet you couldn't stand the pain he took. He wasn't crying either he was lying there because he couldn't skate on a freakin broken leg. And bye the way he's back playing hockey. And hockey players can take a hit as much as football player can. And baseball and soccer aren't even contact sports. A player probably good if he can make into the NHL.

  • Wild and sharks suck Capitals r the best go OVECHKIN

  • @koolaidjuper What does this have to do with the video at all? Retard. People like you give the rest of us intelligent cap fans a bad name.

  • @kidtorso

Man I've played hockey and rugby. They don't even match up. Hockey's collisions and violent impacts. Rugby is soft in comparison. Kurtis fosters an absolute beauty. Props more making a return to the Chel

  • Broken femur.....brutal.....I remember he was out almost an entire season because of this injury

  • @shiftyscitzo yeah no kidding yikes... "his season might be over" I've never broken a femur but dunno how you cna be the same player you were, even 3 years after now

  • micheal barlow and nathan browms injuries are so much worse type it in and you will see. its i the AFL.

  • ....as far as i am concerend he did nocomplaning he sat there on the ice not getting up becaue of his BROKEN LEG..... he took the pain way better than you could have...gettin smashed into a wal at 15mph by another 6ft 200p+ man ...shame on you.

  • o did the little baby get hurt ??? i hope he gets gangreen and they have to amputate it

  • @kidtorso Want that to happen to you?

  • @bphockey23 i play soccer no chance

  • @kidtorso You are a pussy for playing a weak sport like soccer and then coming here and called a hockey player a baby. You don't play a contact sport and accuse a pro athlete who does play a contact sport of being a baby. I would love to see you take a hit like this.

  • @1shot20kills

wtf im not a small chap tbh i used to play rugby on the wings amigo and am well able to handle myself so dont give me shit about not being able to take a hit

  • @kidtorso this happened 3 years ago kid, his femur shattered and he almost died due to massive blood loss. They were also very close to amputating the leg to stop the bleeding, just to keep him alive. He is back playing hockey in the NHL, so you know what, with that kind of injury its outstanding he is able to play again at that level and I hope the same injury happens to you for that comment you just made, so you can experience what he went through

  • Cry baby.

  • Did he die?

  • @WittyJem NO he didn't die! He broke his left leg! DO you even read titles?!?

  • wow torrey mitchell is a fucking pussy and he sucks dick at hockey

  • @AnaheimDucks39 better than you

  • I still think it's b/s that Mitchell didn't even try to play the puck... Took a good year away from Foster's career.

  • welcome to the oilers son!!

  • Yeah I was at this game. Not pretty...

  • i remember this

  • yeah is is a finalist for the Masteron trophy

  • Foster game back and played almost 80 games this year scored 42 points quarter backing the lightnings blueline

  • @ChopperCity47 damn that's the same guy??? wow

  • Yeah, as far as I know, the NHL is the only league that uses touch up icing.

  • thats a big loss, Foster shoots frickin NUKES

  • liveSPOrtsVids,COM == streaming

T0Day*s g*a*m*e, along with extra more!

Re: Kurtis Foster broken leg by jaellezane17

  • in germany we have the no touch icing rule. but german and american hockey is very different.

  • Isn't the NHL one of the most physical and rough leagues? While european leagues tend to be really just on the finesse parts of hockey?

  • yes finesse and fitness. i like both, german and amerikan. and, your league got better players ;)

  • yeah, it's pretty dangerous. If anyone has a hit out on someone, that's the time to go through with it.

  • Broke my leg in 2 places almost the same way haha im in a cast :P but yeah taking it all of is a bitch

  • Im friends with his cousin :)

  • one of the worst sports to break something in ... so much equipment must be hell while they remove it

  • you wont feel a thing after the medics put some needles on you

  • that wasnt tripping it looked like cross checking or checking from behind

  • my god that was a dangerous hit.

  • i know some people wont like this but i think the nhl should use the no touch icing rule

  • the nhl did do the no touch ice rule after this, drew remenda got very angry on the tv. the fact is they got rid of it cause it hinders the game to much. to many whistles

  • isn't the background music from ESPN?

  • Comment removed

  • they were just talking about this on TSN about the habs and bruins game 3.

    lulz.

  • idiot = petieboy123...

mitchell is the shit. fast as hell. dont hate. get rid of touch icing. dangerous shit.

  • wow.. and now mitchell has missed most of this season with a broken leg (from preseason practice session)

    who woulda thunk it.

as a sharks fan, glad to know foster is alright and playing again :)

  • They didnt show that his bone was actually piercing his sock.

  • FOSTER IS BACK!!! Should be back on our line next week. Noone sucks here, it's hockey and once again fights and hits belong in hockey, but not one player wants another to get hurt. WB KURTIS, Minnesota loves you!!!

  • yes, another slapper at the blue line!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GET SOME PAYBACK TO SJS

  • Do you think thats funny?

his career could have been over!

    Great that his back!

  • how is that funny you unclassy bitch?

  • NHL get rid of the touch icing. RIGHT NOW

  • @StFidjnr No...no.....no....no

  • @StFidjnr Agreed

  • mitchel suckes so much kurtis is #1

  • idiot.

  • petieboy123, get a grip it was just an accident.

  • your a fag man

  • "His season might be over"

Wow. Understatement of the year. The guys is still recovering and this happened awhile ago!

  • Foster should make his return in about a month or so. It's gonna be nice having him and his size/slapshot back in the lineup.

  • its ironic because mitchell is now out with a fractured leg

  • lol

  • @excavist he snap his femur

  • ouch! that must have hurt!

  • LOVE YOU FOSTER!

    hope you get better=]

    and love you mitchell.

    (sharks fannnn!)

  • you could definitly see mitchell's hand on foster's back, but it doesnt look like a check from behind. right after they crashed, mitchell was the only one worried about him, the rest of the wild line came in and started shoving mitchell instead of giving foster room like he needed. i think mitchell got rocked pretty hard when he got outta the box too

  • There was lethal injury in the Czech Republic 20 years ago when two players raced for the puck. Actually it was not even foul but after Petr Cajka of Gottwaldov (now the city is called Zlin) broke his neck and died, International Hockey Federation banned races for icing and since then it is always icing if the puck passes the line

  • actually the name of the guy was Ludek Cajka

  • mitchell pushed him, coward

  • its better than most of the cheapshot players who try to hurt there opponent and dont even care. If you watch afull length video and you see mitchells face, you wont be saying that

  • hehe i was totally there. great game.

  • it's pretty fuckin obvious that mitchell wasn't trying to hurt anyone, he was focused on the puck and it was a bad collision. he was really shaken up afterwards and felt terrible about it, but you can't say he meant to hurt foster, that's bullshit. if you were watching the game, mitchell was asking teammates who came over to the box if kurtis was alright, he was devastated.

  • you dont fucking do that... if thats not a cheap shot to end someones career then idk what is...

  • well that was a bad video

  • It's not an incidental penalty its boarding, he hits him from behind and extends his arms. There is no nead for the contact and in the NHL it specifically talks about icing and off-sides contact. This is another area where the rules needs to be changed to inforce harsher punishment for stupid unecessary plays. If I was head of the league I would make a statement and just toss the guy for the rest of the season or fine him an entire years salary to go to the injured player. Teach idiots a leasson

  • I don't believe it was an intentional push at all - It looks to me like they were both careening towards the boards, got tangled and were unable to stop, and in the 5/100ths of a second before they hit the boards, instinct told Mitchell to raise his arms to brace himself for the collision before he could slow down enough to avoid accidentally pushing Foster ahead of him. I don't think it was anyone's fault; just bad luck leading to a bad collision, like Zednik's throat injury.

  • I see no intent to push there, simply a collision at a high rate of speed...

  • I don't think he intended on hurting him, but I am BLOWN AWAY by all the idiots who have given the thumbs down to being a push from behind. Honest to God, I hope NONE of you actually ref hockey. Because yer blind as bats. Even sitting here and having the replay at your disposal and still say there was no push is completely absurd! Without that push, Foster does not go into the boards like that, plain and simple.

Problem with hockey: 2 many hits from behind are accepted now. It happens 10x/gm

  • Although it wasn't a big push, Mitchell did give a little shove - it's hockey, that happens. The injury was serious, but injuries happen - it's hockey. Still, I think the NHL should look at the rule.

I just wonder if the NHL would be more active in the situation if a star like Crosby were the injured party. What do you all think?

  • i Dont know if you watch Hockey night in canada but they we talking about it on Satuarday (22nd March) And at the Start Of The Coachers Corner on the high light of it They we saying That it should be Cause the puck Bounced Around a Little They Said It should be one two Then Thats iceing what im TrYing To Say IS GET THE TOUCH ICEING OUT!!!!!!!! Who Agree's?

  • Its all cause of the touch icing rule

NHL needs to get rid of that and go to no touch icing

  • No, they need to keep it. It helps hockey from being boring.

  • No it doesn't. The two-line pass rule and the no tag-up, offside rule made it boring.

  • Nice push from behind there, cheap shot chump Mitchell. NHL should have suspended his lame ass. Typical though; and the NHL wonders why it's the laughing stock of professional sports.

  • there should be no suspension, Mitchell is not a dirty player, if mitchell wanted to hurt him, he would have actually pushed him.

  • Uh, he does push him. Are you not watching the same video as the rest of us?

  • that was a huge push. he should be suspended

  • it was not.

  • huge push? it looks like he accidentally ran into him

  • he hardly pushed him!

  • Mitchel hardley pushed him

  • ouch

    i posted ovchkins 60th goal

    check it out

  • fuck the wild they are the worst team in the league

  • Yes they are the worse team in the league...You know that's true when they are #3 in the West and leading their division.

Either you're a nucks fan or something crawled up your ass.

  • Yes they are the worse team in the league...You know that's true when they are #3 in the West and leading their division.

Either you're a nucks fan or something crawled up your ass.

  • broken femur is pretty serious, his career might be over because it takes awhile to recover from one

  • igor grigorenko in russian league fully recovered after i missed season

of course the risk of recurring fracture is high

  • he played in teh russian league this year? i thought he was w/ detroit?

  • he is in Salavat (Ufa) now,

they won russian league this year.

he went to detroit in the beginning of 07/08 but he returned to russia

  • o...he should play w/ DET next year cuz i heard hes pretty sick

  • frankly speaking he didn't impress me much, i think he was faster before the injury.

  • well either way i would just like to see him play NHL level

  • hey at least Foster didn't get seriousy hurt or a major injury that he can't play hockey anymore. be reminded on Moore and Bertuzzi incident while back. Foster is lucky and I hope he will pull through.

  • stupid sharks!

  • ouch! I don't care who you are but that has got to hurt!

poor guy! His season is over. That really sux! I feel bad for him! Plus, wasn't he getting married soon?

  • this is jus another reason why they should have the no touch rule for the nhl. jus like in college if u ice the puck as soon as it crosses the line the ref blows the play dead

  • that just has to hurt

  • as a wild fan, that was a bad call, it was just an accident, mitchel even went over to him so he didn't do anything wrong, he is a good sport unlike the canucks, but when will the NHL change to no-touch icing?

  • Are you guys kidding me? It was a collision. This happens ALL THE TIME in hockey. The difference is that Foster cut off Mitchel at the last second, and was falling when he did it. Quick instinct sent Mitchel's hands up (But there was no pushing motion). It was a collision. Not a cheap shot, not an intent to injure. If you watch the unedited clip, Mitchel right away looked over at Foster and asked him if was okay. Then Roenick was the first Shark over, and lifted the stretcher with the Wild

  • Sharks are huge assoles

  • oh yea? why's that?

are you a kings or a ducks fan? cuz thatd explain it.

  • Sharks are huge assoles

  • Touch Icing is better. It protects the players and creates way more time in the offensive zone. Goocher on the femur. Sorry Foster. Go Wings. Canucks lic bals.

  • i mean NO-Touch Icing.

  • I was at this game, and being a Sharks fan I can tell you that Torrey Mitchell is just a balls out hockey player. He is one of the fastest on the team and probably believed he had a chance to get to the puck first. He did not intend to hurt Foster as you could tell right after it happened. What really happened is that the puck took an awkward hop once it got to the corner, both players had to redirect, and Foster got the worst of it. Look into touch icing, but this was an accident.

  • Man that is exactly what me and my dad were thinking we were there too the fans didn't talk at all and most of them were standing it shows that Sharks fans at least have a heart

  • who cares he is a minnesota player go canucks

  • Thats very stupid to say wild player or not everyone should care. Just think if that happened to a canuck and people just said Oh its just a canuck who cares if he breaks his leg.

  • who cares he is a minnesota player go canucks

  • Mitchell didnt really check him hard, it looked like kond of foster dived

  • ya he dived, r u kidding look at the dam clip again.

  • touch icing sucks

  • no it doesnt u suck touch icimg is way more entertaining

  • I must agree with leafs2574 about 90% of the time no real chase is involved and it is a waste of time and energy for everyone, even players (and I count myself in that category). yankeesbabe77, you need to realize that Mitchell knew he had no chance yet decided to give Foster the shove. That is why he probably got the penalty and why the NHL is 'looking' into further action(probably a fine). Although the injury wasn't intended, the possibility of injury is ALWAYS there. Not smart by Mitchell.

  • they both were flying a top speed, the difference is foster got shoved from behind one foot away from the boards. mitchell knows that when someone is going that fast, pushing him like that FROM BEHIND is going to cause an injury. on top of that mitchell didnt give foster a chance, cuz it was a push from behind. this is another horrible example of touch icing and how stupid it is.

it was a hit from behind at the very least it should be penalized for that which it was.

  • but touch icing can create chances

  • maggotdabbler, are you then saying that the other 10% of the time there ARE scoring chances or at the least some excitement created in the chase for the puck?

i think it sucks that foster got injured like that but i think mitchell DID have a chance of getting to the puck. i don't think the push was that bad either. i've seen worse.

  • Look, I understand that no one likes to be called stupid, dumb, dense, etc. and for that I am sorry. There comes a time though, when one needs to be honest with themselves. Is hockey right for you? Hey, everyone is special in their own way and I'm sure you really shine in other aspects of life (that's the nicest way I can put it). I assume you are a person of average intelligence. Maybe your age is a hindrance in terms of your mental development.

  • You try to prove small percentages or pull statements out of context in hopes that you may be right, but ultimately you fall short. Goodbye and I hope life gets better after this.

  • you must not have anything better to do with your life than just sit on the computer and obsess over youtube videos.

there are more comments on this video from you than anyone else...obsessed much?

p.s. age is most definitely NOT a sign of intelligence...sorry buddy.

  • Let's say I'm a stickler for actual intelligence. I outnumber your posts by three. I must be obsessed! Don't lose your pretty little head lady. I just really despise stupidity (i.e. what you encompass). Oh, and if, "age is most definitely NOT a sign of intelligence...sorry buddy" then I don't know what your fucking moronic problem is.

  • You counted...LMFAO!

I may be "moronic" but you're a loser. LOL. :)

  • That's all you've got?! That was terrible. It's not uncommon for people to be able to count quite quickly you know. If you're going to make stupid claims I'm gonna show you how fucking stupid you are. Sorry, it's just the nature of the beast.

  • Congratulations...you can count...and quite quickly I guess.

    Loser.

  • You disappoint. Oh, and let's see if the Yankees can't exit early from the playoffs this year too.

  • Search this, "Mitchell breaking Fosters leg." I have a lot of respect for Roenick. This is a much better clip.

  • When I first saw this I wished I could've beat that guys ass for doing this. It's such a cheap shot. Then when you see it closer you can see Mitchell looking concerned about Foster after it happens. That changes my attitude because that shows the intent wasn't what it looked like. It's unfortunate, but I guess they need to look at the touch icing rule now.

  • this is just one of those freak accidents that has a horrible result. you will see thing like that 100 times and 1 or 2 will be a big hit or injury. foster was in the middle of turning around the net and got a touch that disrupted his skates. The other guy didn't seem to do it on purpose and was asking him right after if he was ok. Us MN'ers can be tough, but two injuries to two hockey players (the other being MN Gophers) and we may need to look at different protection or rules.

  • ouch

  • lets look at this diffrently like i like the touch icing but kurtis foster lived in the same area as me so i feel really bad to see this happen to him but i heard someone say something interesting such as a penalty should be assesed if contact is made when a race like that insues obiously mitchell whos a rookie is only doing wut foster is doing trying to stay in the nhl and that was more od just a collision i think we need to definatly modify the touch icing but i dont think we can get rid of it

  • anyone no what happened to the sj guy

  • The SJ guy Mitchell got only 2 minutes for tripping - what a joke. He wasn't hurt at all but the entire Minnesota team wanted to kill him.

  • There shouldn't have even been a penalty. There was nothing bad about it they were both hustling to the puck for the icing. If anything, this is a great example why there shouldn't be touch up icing. Watch some more games this same situation happens pretty much every game minus the broken leg.

  • yeah, they called him for tripping and he didnt even trip the guy.

  • I believe he was shot after the games in the parking lot. Something about an enraged fan, oh well...

  • i hope it heals fast

  • It`s just the question of time when someone will die or end up on wheelchair due to NHL mindless Icing Rules. NHL should change that until it`s too late!!!

  • When is the NHL going to come it's senses and eliminate touch icing from the game. Here we have

another player going down with a potential career ending injury.International hockey and the world juniors have no touch icing and it hasn't affected the quality of the game.Wake up NHL!!

  • Food for thought-if Foster hadn't have broken his leg, would anybody care about this play?

The call and the infraction need to be evaluated independently of the outcome. I don't think anyone would advocate manditory suspensions anytime someone gets injured accidentally, though that is what some of you seem to be inferring with your posts.

For comparison, I reference the cheapshot Edmonton put on Mihalek in the playoffs a couple of years ago. We didn't even get a power play.

  • oh come on now, you all ac tlike this is the first time a collision/cheap hit (depending on what you want to call it) of this kind has occurred in the NHL. not that you have realized it and see an extreme result of one, youll most likely begin to notice it happens more than you think

  • The problem with all the folks saying it was a cross-check or an illegal hit is repeated viewing at low speed. Watch the full speed collision--Mitchell gets cut off and puts his hands up because he is going to run into Foster.

Can't we all just agree to hate the Ducks and their goon squad and move on from this unfortunate incident?

  • its been review by professional and has been declared a collision. Thats what happens when two skaters go full blown and the guy in front decides to slow down and the guy from behind has no time to react.

  • It's too damn bad that he might never be able to play the same again. Even with a full recovery. I liked him. Mitchell might've ended his potential career. And by the way, he didn't have to push him into the boards to stop. S simple check would've sufficed. That should be all kinds of penalties. Boarding, cross-checking, roughing... the likes.

  • It wasn't really a dirty hit, but Mitchell could of easily avoided the situation by using the poke check rather than trying to hit him.

  • boarding from behind at that rate of speed is not only dirty, but one of the stupidest things you can do in hockey. there was no need for that at all. no touch icing is needed in the nhl for exactly that reason. to many idiots who dont think before they do

  • ouch!

  • oh shut the fuck up. all you stupid assholes need to stop. try going as fast as they were and stopping. stupid faggets. go suck a dick

  • You should shut the fuck up and suck ur own dick numb nuts.

  • It was unintentional! Hello, How many people would like to break another persons foot for no reason? Mitchell did not shove him! He tripped because he was going at tremendous speed. Mitchell is in his **Rookie** season! Rookies wouldn't hurt a duck.

  • everybody needs 2 quit whining it is impossible for Mitchell 2 avoid that contact

  • i dont think it was intentional. Im from MN and I love the Wild, but to give Mitchell credit, after foster was down, he appears to ask if he's okay. Again, it appears to be unintentional, and I hope Kurtis can make a speed recovery! Go Wild!

  • What is the difference between intent to harm and negligence? Intent to harm is the act of trying to cause harm. Negligence is doing what ever you want without car for others or the harm you may cause them (careless). While the first is far more serious, the second is serious unto itself. The NHL cannot promote/tolerate negligent aggression. Respect, self control, sportmanship are all part of the game. I do not see intent, but I see a complete disregard for Foster's safety. He was shoved!

  • I met foster last sunday at a concert actually. He is the nicest Pro-athelete I have ever talked to. He really is just a big teddy bear, my no means did he deserve this chit at all. It is rediculous that "Mitchell" should be charging at him at full speed like he has a chance at getting the puck. It was STUPID. I'm just in total shock, after meeting this real nice guy and then he just gets messed up by an IDIOT...I mean my god, Mitchell puts his stick up and gives him a shove into the boards

  • Also, after watching this again and again he was trying to throw a hit. In normal speed it becomes very apparent. I'm not implying intent to injure, but he wasn't in the right at all.

  • Mitchell made some poor decsions. NHLers have great vision. They know icing and they can see people around them. Why is he even outstretching his arms if foster is beating him to the boards and puck? I'm not saying there was intent to injure, but it was a boneheaded and stupid play on Mitchell's behalf. Suspended? I don't know. It shouldn't be more than a game and it's not. The NHL should just create some even handed rules and and stick with them. Fans of hockey will watch regardless of change.
