The john Paul Conner he mentions was a young Celtic supporter, who idolised Tommy and was very ill in the hospital(with leukemia or some other terminal disease)and Tommy had been visiting him in the week leading up to the final.

I am sure it was in the press that Tommy and some of the other players took the cup into the hospital on the Monday.
