Looked like there was a few close calls, but I guess if you put 10 guys on skates and put them in a small area, it's bound to happen. It looked like Bowzer was holding on to Johnny at the beginning, but near the end, Johnny slipped!! What fun they must have had!
Ah, long before the days of roller blades and portable scooters! Either way, you have to love this both for the performance and how they react while trying to avoid crashing into each other!
They used to broadcast an episode on Thursday on Hamilton's CHCH-TV here in Ontario and they'd show the same episode on a CBS affiliate station in Buffalo the next week on a Saturday! A great way to familiarize yourself over and over again with these classics...
I've actually lived in Toronto all my life, and since Hamilton isn't far, we would always get CHCH-TV broadcast over here along with CFTO, CBLT, CICA (later TVOntario) and Global among others.
I just turned seven a few weeks earlier when Sha Na Na premiered on TV (September 17, 1977), which was the very first time I had ever heard of them, and they were the first group I ever saw in concert when they played the Ontario Place Forum in '78. It was fun being a kid in the 70s, at least for me!
I agree with you. In fact, earlier this week I went to the library to check the newspaper microfilms for any reviews for that concert (as a kid, who'd be interested in that sort of thing?), and both Toronto papers gave it a great review.
One thing they definitely touched on was that most of the audience consisted of a lot of kids and preteens. Quite a turnaround when you think that when they first performed as a group, they played a lot of university campuses.
That's for sure, TV can be good, or a curse!! All I know is I'm glad I got to watch Sha na na as a kid!!! Johnny was my favourite, and he's still amazing today!!! They brought me a lot of joy as a kid, and I'm still loving hearing and seeing them today!!!
Watch at 1:17. Santini is about to bust out laughing when Chico kinda skates under under (around?) him. They all look like they're having so much fun. I dont think Danny or Jocko know how to skate very well though. LOL!
Ya know I think that is what makes me love them even more. They weren't perfect at everything. Shoot I wish I could skate even half as good as that LOL I think they were so brave to skate.. I wouldn't LOL
Hey, Foofsmom: I've got the Marathon on DVD of: "Sha-Na-Na", that Linda H. mentioned, I purchased it from: Mr. Hom, I have Not watched all of it as of yet, for the bit that I've seen, it might be the Only way I can see & hear: Johnny Contardo &/or 'Bowzer'...Sigh!!
You are so entirely welcome. I'm trying to get more. My programs are just not cooperating and I can't remember exactly how I did it last time LOL But I will get them here eventually ☺
It's amazing how they all stayed up on their skates! (Lennie took the easy way out ,I think,Or maybe he was just honest & admitted he couldn't skate.)
I do not profess to know the exact names of each song I just know I love the boys . They could sing the phone book and i'd still love them. Title is now corrected
Lenny's lucky! He didn't have to skate!
