NHL 09 is brutal.. my guy can be getting cross checked, slashed and high sticked in front of the net, and not get a penalty, and when I give the guy a shove I get a PENALTY... brutal
another thing i would love to add is that they should fix the fighting system. Change it to be more like the NHL 2K9 system because it's much more realistic then 1 punch knockouts or very stiff grapples.

one time i was playing nhl 08 and i scored, but it never gave me the goal... the puck was at the back of the net for about 30 seconds (real time, not the sped up time in the game) and then the goalie took the puck out of the net. i didnt get the goal and lost the game. pissed me off pretty bad.
Did you scored through the net? Because the engine won't calculate a goal if the puck didn't make it completely through the goal line, under the crossbar, and between the posts
that's because you probably basically skimmed the outside part of the post with the puck. happened to me before, i looked at the replay and everytime it happens to me i notice that the puck did go in between the posts and in.

they need to add a fantasy draft option in dynasty, i was disapointed when it wasnt in 08... and also maybe add in double-minors for drawing blood on high sticks and stuff.
1. Have a player search like in nhl 2k8! I hate having to find a player i never heard of seaching every god damn team.
2. And make the rosters better. There is never all the players the nhl teams just drafted like say NHL 08 there wasn't kane or toews or gagner.
3. Make the draft make realistic and better. It always sucks. Try to atleast make some real future players. If john tavarous was in the draft in nhl 09 that would be amazing. I am pretty sure every one would suck the first year
First of all: Yup, you get drafted and no, you don't decide for who you wanna play. You can ask for a trade to a particular team though.
Second of all: The trade was balanced; one minor leaguer and one NHLer for one minor leaguer and one NHLer. Still won't let me execute the trade :(
This is why i LOVE making dynasties with 2K8, realisticness (spelling?) is awesome. You can trade up to 4 players and 3 draft picks in ONE trade, the contract negociations are realistic, etc etc

A couple minor things i dont like in 08 if your winning by five as the game ends your team will celebrate like it just won in overtime ... i like 2k8s goalie mode... it gets old but its something new nhl games... the replays are worthless... they show soft saves... better explanation of the deke/freestyle moves and in dynasty its annoying that some of your best players end up in the ahl and it automatically resigns free agents you dont want? anyone else having these problems? frusterating

Yeah PC has free online access, and yes, PC version is better, because you can install patches (such as arena music patches, cyberfaces (ingame players' real faces), real goal horn, realistic arenas (with real ads on the boards), roster downloads...)
I'm pretty sure you can't modify the PS2 version in anwyway, not 100% sure, though.
these are some of the most insignificant little things that you're complaining about. nhl 08 has some serious gameplay bugs that need to be fixed way more than this stuff

biggest thing I hate is that 70% of goals slide under the pads. not even 5 hole area. whether it be slapshot, wristshot, or backhand...they all just slide across the ice instead of a trajectory through the air. way too many hipchecks....

Goalies' gloves don't work as they should. They never close or open, it looks like they are fixed. And they rarely catch the puck with their catcher. The physics aren't realistic either. The replays suck too. And the game intros, ingame videos and outros are bad as hell.
playoffs, season, 1 captain and 3 assistants, less hip checks, better fighting, harder to do one timers, more tips that look better and face off glitches are a pain too.
Another thing I dislike.. easy scoring. Some people I've played online against use the SAME trick over and over again. Stand next to blue line, hit L2 so ur player starts facing the net and slap it top corner. 95% of the time it goes in.
They should make goalie AI better, so that the same goals dont happen 5-6-7 times in a game.
they need different styles for different goaltenters I know they do but I don't find a difference between a stand-up and a butterfly(different styles of goalie different set saves). and this is just a little thing when a player gets hit in the open ice and then goes into the boards he just stays in the same spot he should hit the react with the boards
I thought you made some good points, i think there needs to be more realistic hitting instead of the same old hip check almost every time, And the should have the CHL teams in there and in dynastty mode if your team sucks then you should be able to get fired and possible hired again by another team

niklas backstrom isnt even on nhl 08 he was a rookie this year he's only on if your playing online and that didnt look like online to me
also they have to make it so sticks break it would make the game alot better also they need the obvious changes like stopping the sticks from going threw the other player more penaltys and what is up with the goaltending every save is the same and the skate so slow also they need to make it so you can actually get a shot on net from the other end of the rink
if you knew what delay of game is then you should know pucks can not go over the glass in the DEFENSIVE zone so there rightfully shoudnt be a penalty.
uhm delay of game will be a penalty in 09, and there will be a new defensive skill stick which should make poke checking better. Also you can now lift the opponents stick.
I think one of the biggest issues for me is goaltending, I mean it's good where it's at now but it's always the same. You never see any amazing diving glove saves, they need to implement that to happen on rare occasion.
i agree with everything on this video but one thing that bugs me non stop is that the players con only get injured by a slash or hipcheck. itsd retarded they should be able to get injured by everything.

i play the pc version of nhl08 and i notice that the pc versions never have the other great features that come on xbox or playstation like playing the goalie and more auto deking.
what i dont understand: nhl 06 is the only game (on pc) that has special auto dekes, but 07 and 08 doesnt

If I'm not mistaken I think the agreement with the NHLPA restricts the number of fights per game and also disallows blood.

A couple minor things i dont like in 08 if your winning by five as the game ends your team will celebrate like it just won in overtime ... i like 2k8s goalie mode... it gets old but its something new nhl games... the replays are worthless... they show soft saves... better explanation of the deke/freestyle moves and in dynasty its annoying that some of your best players end up in the ahl and it automatically resigns free agents you dont want? anyone else having these problems? frusterating

they finally re did the fighting on 09 it looks ok not rweally good, just ok hope they fixed the bug were poke checks cause tripping calls every time

You only get a penalty when your goalie handles the puck in the restricted zone (in the corners)
This is why, in real NHL hockey, that when the puck is dumped in their territory, the goalie just waits for it behind his own net.

1. we're paying 50$ each year, fix the fuckin fight engine
2. Show the players season stats when they score in Dynasty mode
3. Fix that freakin freeze at the end of each game (0:01)
4. If we're gonna hit 15 posts a game, at least show some replays of them instead of dumbass saves
5. Build a system where we can edit, save and share our best goals and hits on the net (like Skate. reel)
6. In practice mode, why can't we play 1 vs 1 on the same goaler??????

E.A are shit they dont give a toss yeaah its well presented but gameplay is know where near as intuative as nhl2k. and theyve used the same fight engine since 2000. yeah ten years of no where near realistic action.

1. i would like that the shirts doesn´t beeing so tight.
2. why are their shinguard bigger if they have the socks outside the skates? that´s really bad.
3. why couldn´t you choose grating at your player, it would be better and more realistic. And much more funnier i think, if you do a player who is 17 years old you should have grating.

nice vid i agree with everything here. they should also make more realistic goal horns all the national teams are the same ducks goal horn. the rangers one sounds nothing like its real life counterpart, same goes for nashville detroit washington colorado is completeley different.

Unfortunatly, NHL 09 for PC and PS2 will STILL be current Gen.
This means almost the same version as last year.
No Be A Pro mode.

Yeah PC has free online access, and yes, PC version is better, because you can install patches (such as arena music patches, cyberfaces (ingame players' real faces), real goal horn, realistic arenas (with real ads on the boards), roster downloads...)
I'm pretty sure you can't modify the PS2 version in anwyway, not 100% sure, though.

biggest thing I hate is that 70% of goals slide under the pads. not even 5 hole area. whether it be slapshot, wristshot, or backhand...they all just slide across the ice instead of a trajectory through the air. way too many hipchecks....

Playoff beards= good idea They need a better hitting system and why is it only 3 fights a game? And what ever happened to goalie fights? Goalies' gloves don't work as they should. They never close or open, it looks like they are fixed. And they rarely catch the puck with their catcher. The physics aren't realistic either. The replays suck too. And the game intros, ingame videos and outros are bad as hell.

playoffs, season, 1 captain and 3 assistants, less hip checks, better fighting, harder to do one timers, more tips that look better and face off glitches are a pain too.

Another thing I dislike.. easy scoring. Some people I've played online against use the SAME trick over and over again. Stand next to blue line, hit L2 so ur player starts facing the net and slap it top corner. 95% of the time it goes in.
They should make goalie AI better, so that the same goals dont happen 5-6-7 times in a game.

they need different styles for different goaltenters I know they do but I don't find a difference between a stand-up and a butterfly(different styles of goalie different set saves). and this is just a little thing when a player gets hit in the open ice and then goes into the boards he just stays in the same spot he should hit the react with the boards

I thought you made some good points, i think there needs to be more realistic hitting instead of the same old hip check almost every time, And the should have the CHL teams in there and in dynastty mode if your team sucks then you should be able to get fired and possible hired again by another team

Well, if you have a Xbox 360, you need Xbox Live.
Then, once your game is opened, you go to Xbox Live -> Download Rosters
Else, just try to play an online game and they will install automatically
I guess it's the same if you have a PS3

niklas backstrom isnt even on nhl 08 he was a rookie this year he's only on if your playing online and that didnt look like online to me
also they have to make it so sticks break it would make the game alot better also they need the obvious changes like stopping the sticks from going threw the other player more penaltys and what is up with the goaltending every save is the same and the skate so slow also they need to make it so you can actually get a shot on net from the other end of the rink

First of all, download new rosters.
If you think your players skate to slowly, just adjust your sliders
They already announced new goaltending, and penalties for shooting the puck over the boards

if you knew what delay of game is then you should know pucks can not go over the glass in the DEFENSIVE zone so there rightfully shoudnt be a penalty.

uhm delay of game will be a penalty in 09, and there will be a new defensive skill stick which should make poke checking better. Also you can now lift the opponents stick.
I think one of the biggest issues for me is goaltending, I mean it's good where it's at now but it's always the same. You never see any amazing diving glove saves, they need to implement that to happen on rare occasion.

I wouldn't call the Hossa Backstrom thing a steal because, Backstrom is a prospect and has high potential, and can grow to 90+, while Hossa doesn't have as much as an increase even if he scores 100 points

1) game misconducts (checking from behind), double minors (high stick + man bleeding)
2) more than 3 possible fights in a game

i play the pc version of nhl08 and i notice that the pc versions never have the other great features that come on xbox or playstation like playing the goalie and more auto deking.
what i dont understand: nhl 06 is the only game (on pc) that has special auto dekes, but 07 and 08 doesnt
