Good point. I began videotaping for Real English in 1992, so some videos like this one are old (1995), while others were filmed just a month ago. I'm pretty sure that opinions, including stereotypes, change rather quickly. I'm sure we'd get different answers if I refilmed this series today.

Thankx ill check it out. I mean if you were to do this now it would be interesting to see how peoples opinion of Americans has changed over the last decade and whether or not the opinions would be more positive or negative following certain events in politics and media attention.

I think they just didn't dare say uneducated and stupid.

Saying someone is arrogant is OK, but saying they're dumb when they think they're so great and everyone looks up to them would feel too harsh.... and undiplomatic.

I'm very surprised about some Brits saying Americans are a lot like themselves though.

I would NEVER live in the UK if they were anything like them, they're worth so much better than them !!

You're right. :) I too sometimes am stupid, naive, lazy, sheepish and ignorant, and wish I was on Earth on a mission to save the world and think I'm better than others. Yep, I'm like that.

But I feel much closer to a lot of other people : e.g. Indians, Chinese and Japanese people, Arabs, and to a certain extent, Scandinavian AND English people too.

And living in England I keep realizing just how French I am as well....

I am an independent, I have voted anywhere from McGovern to Reagan. The G.W. Bush years have just destroyed this country and made us the hated laughing stock of the world. The world needs to know that a very substantial part of our population did not like Bush at all.

I made this video when Clinton was president. If it were made during the agonizing Bush years, there would be fewer good stereotypes. Now that Obama is soon going to be president, it will be fun to do this video again in about a year. It's on our filming list!
