There are fatties, dummies and low-life dipshits in every country in the world. Try a per capita and see the reality. Your misguided attacks on "all" Americans… too easy. Get some new rhetoric.
@TheTipsyGipsy I agree with everything you say, but I disagree with your opinion that this was an 'attack' on us. To me, it's just a perspective, and not a bad one at that. I cringe to see what the Britts would have to say about us today, though your first sentence should be considered by all people judging Americans.
i don't know about other americans, but this video really pisses me off, maybe these ignorant brits should come spend a month or two in america, and then remake this video, maybe even have a cage match with "the spider" on UFC.
Good point. I began videotaping for Real English in 1992, so some videos like this one are old (1995), while others were filmed just a month ago. I'm pretty sure that opinions, including stereotypes, change rather quickly. I'm sure we'd get different answers if I refilmed this series today.
Thankx ill check it out. I mean if you were to do this now it would be interesting to see how peoples opinion of Americans has changed over the last decade and whether or not the opinions would be more positive or negative following certain events in politics and media attention.
I think they just didn't dare say uneducated and stupid.
Saying someone is arrogant is OK, but saying they're dumb when they think they're so great and everyone looks up to them would feel too harsh.... and undiplomatic.
I'm very surprised about some Brits saying Americans are a lot like themselves though.
I would NEVER live in the UK if they were anything like them, they're worth so much better than them !!
I LOVE England, but "blah" to the American culture and ways.
Well, that's ur point of view, mine the opposite^^ I LOVE AMERICA and its culture and ways^^ like it or not. (England not so much). most of the people in the world have a little American in them^^ even you friend^^
You're right. :) I too sometimes am stupid, naive, lazy, sheepish and ignorant, and wish I was on Earth on a mission to save the world and think I'm better than others. Yep, I'm like that.
But I feel much closer to a lot of other people : e.g. Indians, Chinese and Japanese people, Arabs, and to a certain extent, Scandinavian AND English people too.
And living in England I keep realizing just how French I am as well....
But sorry everything America represents just disgusts me.
These don't, the only problem is, ONLY Americans think that they represent all that.
And the MASSIVE difference between what they think they are (and what they think OTHERS are) and what things ACTUALLY are like is part of what makes us despise them and find them so irritating.
Really guys, you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO hav'nt got a freaking clue.......
I am an independent, I have voted anywhere from McGovern to Reagan. The G.W. Bush years have just destroyed this country and made us the hated laughing stock of the world. The world needs to know that a very substantial part of our population did not like Bush at all.
Consistant response: Loud/Brash? Yes, if you're from the North--Try talking with an American from the Deep South--refined, polite and not brash. Otherwise yep, pretty confident people who speak their mind..
Hi Dean, That sounds right to me. The Confederacy has conserved a European type of politesse, so to speak, and nowadays, Americans are not as confident as they were in their brash days of the late 90s when I edited and filmed this clip....
Have you ever talked to an American from the high north? New York City, Connecticut, New Hampshire, The Hamptons...? You're basing your opinion on a stereotype. Educated people are polite, as we know the educational system up here bests down there.
finally. a video that actually shows us for what WE ARE. im the generous/friendly/hospitably kind of American.I just want to let the world know.."we ARE here for YOU". WE WILL HELP THOSE IN NEED. You dont have to agree with everything we do(sometimes even I dont).Just be grateful, that there is a whole country that would take a bullet or everyone in the world.think about it.THE WORLD! If we are "SO BAD", then why is Iraq still intact?? THE REASON? WE ARE NOT TRYING TO DESTROY THEM!! free them..
I made this video when Clinton was president. If it were made during the agonizing Bush years, there would be fewer good stereotypes. Now that Obama is soon going to be president, it will be fun to do this video again in about a year. It's on our filming list!
Generalizing a country of 300 million people...

Wow...I heard "loud" quite a bit. I wouldn't think that. It's amazing how a few bad apples make us all look bad.

i really like your videos and would find it very interesting if you were to do this now. Just wondering if it would be possible.

The Real English site includes video LESSONS and is much better than this YouTube channel!
PS: What do you mean that you would find it "very interesting if I were to do this now"? So WHAT?
