  • Of course a 3rd runway is a great idea, here we are pulling out of a recession and the government is going 'no, no, no, forget the £21.7 billion cash injection that would come from the runway.' Are we just going to sit here while other European airports (Charlles de Gaulle, Schiphol) benefit from our thumb twidling? Also a third runway would create jobs (BA, BAA expansion) something I thought this government wanted to promote. + It would bring in more tax for Mr. Osborne, so why are we oppsed?

  • @cheesemaster1000 Cheap oil is running out, and demand is going up.

Maybe burning off whats left isnt such a good idea considering the civilization as we know it is based on oil.

  • @mrduffy1100 Whilst you are right, cheap oil is running out, there are still huge global oil reserves being discovered that will last well into the 22nd century. But people aren't going to stop flying because of high oil prices.

  • @cheesemaster1000 Are there huge reserves to be discovered??? supplies into the 22nd century?? People wont stop flying because of increasingly expensive oil?? Three very very odd assumptions/statements.

  • @mrduffy1100 Actually yes, huge oil reserves are being discovered. In 2010 50 billion barrels was discovered off the horn of Africa (world oil consumption 2010 - 30 billion barrels). Technology means we can dig deeper and separate oil easier (The second largest oil reserves in the world, after Saudi Arabia, are in Canada. Yet oil production only started in the late 60's). There will always be a need for air travel, and air travel will always grow as an industry.

  • @mrduffy1100 World oil consumption is dropping (more fuel efficient technology, greener living) just as oil production and reserves are beginning to increase (due to efficient technological advances in drilling and separation)

  • @cheesemaster1000 I mean world oil consumption will drop, once the developing countries (China) settle down into a sustainable economy.

  • @cheesemaster1000 What??? Are you from the the US?!? Oil demand IS increasing, Reserves are becoming depleted and new ones harder to find and exploit. The energy needed to get the oil and process it makes the whole process more uneconomic. There may be some luck finding any big new fields, but considering oil = food, plastic, clothes, transport, and medicine, profligate consumption now be avoided and the priorty to conserve oil till an alternative miracle fuel is found.

  • @mrduffy1100 Okay but what does oil consumption and supply have anything to do with Heathrow getting their 3rd runway?

  • @cheesemaster1000 Planes use lots of oil. 3rd runway means more planes, means oil consumption.

  • I think its a Great idea !!!

i can understand the dissapointment of the people living there

But what do you Expect !! they are living next to one of Europe's Busiest Airport

One day the airport officials were going too say

" WE want another runway "

Heathrow already can't cope with the amount of Air traffic with two runways

International airports are always expanding ! people need to know that.

Air travel is the FUTURE and people know That !!!!!!!!

  • yeah just get fucked hey

  • heathrow is better of with a 3rd runway than a gay highspeed rail link

  • we want a 3rd runway !!!

  • @ben11522 , ''Want''? they ''need'' a third runway
