I am surprised that no one has commented on the obvious similarity of the main theme here with the far more familiar aria "M'appari" from the operetta "Martha" by Flotow. I think the Flotow came first, but I am not sure. The first bar (key aside) is identical. I have often wondered if the popularity of this piece is due to its instant recognizability-sort of like all those Andrew Lloyd Webber songs that start off like a tune you already know?
I am impressed. You are the best at playing this music of all the ones in youtube. Such beautiful expressions... I taught myself to play piano and this is one of my favorites. I have never attempted playing the entire piece because I am only a grade 2 at the most. Thank you for sharing. Brovo.
@lialim Thanks for your very kind comment, and bravo to you for teaching yourself to play piano well enough to play some of this piece. I have probably played more of this sort of music in my lifetime than most people posting on YouTube, so it doesn't take me too long to learn pieces like this!
So Chopinesque, with a little bit of an influence from the classical. This rendition is so poetic with the rich and warm piano sound. Thanks for sharing...
Thanks for sharing this. I played this piece over and over when I was younger....though I always had some trouble with the repeated notes in the right hand. I enjoyed your smooth and wonderful rendition.
@pianoandkidz Thank you. It is really interesting to find that this piece is still played today. It is certainly a challenge to keep the repeated chords 'down'.
Congratulations on your one thousandth performance! We look forward to many more. And thank you for the sensitive and skillful performance of Leybach's charming piece.
Nocturne tres brillant . Belle interpretation .merci ann
