Super nice. I play this song on violin as well!!! I was taught it under the title "little beggerman". Ive heard it performed (fantastically) under both titles i was wondering which was the original title? Can any1 help?
P.S. Ive only heard the actual song sung under the title i was taught it under and to my knowledge it is an irish folk song, but ive heard so many great bluegrass renditions of it done by countless artist that I cant be sure !!!
@MrTrainfanatic Thanks...seriously! That's college students for you. =P Most of them are "plugged in" to their MP3 players, so blazing by on skateboards.
@Glockerman I'm glad you asked. I'm happy to say that the ensemble has gone on strong without me, since I graduated in 2008. They have their final concert each year in May, along with gigs here and there, but they're on summer now.
hey thats excellent, i have just uploaded a version of this. most unusual with a banjolin and squeezebox! i would love to hear peoples views. not up to this standard but we are learning. please search "banjolin the ginger kid" i hope to be this good one day....
I can play this just faster... Still, great! 4/5! I have a book on it... Ummm... I don't have much more to say... Only if I had a Band and I had a camera I could do this... Still Great Job (s)!
I guess it's to late to get you the lyrics for "the next monthly jam" which was now six months ago, but if your still interested, the Red Headed Boy is also known as The Little Beggar Man. If you search for the Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem singing it under that title you'll get the lyrics. They sing it quite a bit slower than this though and play it with an Irish jig feel rather than bluegrass so it may be best performed as an instrumental if you want to maintain this tempo. Hope that helps.
I become very happy when I listen to your recording. Unfortunately I made a mistake when I ranked it and gave it 2 stars instead of 5. I think you deserve 10 stars!!! :-)
Isn't it amazing how one instrument,by itself sounds great but when you put a bunch of different instruments together, they sound fantastic. Thanks for sharing this vidio with us.

You know this is the only one that sounds similar to the Red Haired Boy in Railroad Tycoon 3.
