  • what lure / rig did you use?

  • those were anchers not gafs

  • Nah he's just lookin stuff up and talkin

  • I've never seen that pier not crowded I don't need a anchor rod just let the middle part of a shark out and let the current take it

  • 56ace is not tough

  • @smokerchokerz :Really? when u catch a fifteen pound king u can talk . And the damn reaso they stuck 2 gaffs in him was so the other didnt pull out! Also you obviosly havent read the comment that says if you have nothing nice to say keep it to yourself.

  • Holy shit. Never seen so much damn commotion over a fifteen pound king. Frustrating to watch. The first gaff shot was where it was supposed to be. Why didn't yall just lift his ass up with that instead of mutilating the meat all to hell?

  • Nice video reelkingin

  • Bit overkill on the rod and reel i use a mitchell 302

  • What did you make your breakaway clips out of? I cant think of a good idea.

  • @XXbigbooneXX plastic curtain rings work.

  • where did u guys get the gaffs.

  • @padreman121

reelkingin . com, got the shirts and gaff there...great guys

  • either you gaff it bad or not, who cares? the fish will still die..ignore those fckers who brag their gaffing abilities, theyre still born fckers..lol nice catch..

anyways, some people may have asked you this question but ill ask anyway, what bait did you use?

  • @lisolangka

    i agree!!

Bluefish was the bait of the day this day of fishing in the v ideo

  • There is actually a CD of ocean sounds that was done from Kure Beach? The artist name is ncbysound and they have a website by the same name.

  • Good God this a hard way to land a fish.

  • nice penn international i am getting one for a good deal... nice catch btw

  • What im trying to say is, how did you get the distance you needed to catch that king. Everybody is telling me that round reels are not the way to go for the pier. I mean how did you cast out a reel like that which is made for just trolling.

  • @XXbigbooneXX

We use a zip line affect. We anchor with the tall rods and then slide out bait rod down the line to suspend the bait in the water. When the strike happens, it releases and your off to the races with the fish on the big reels

  • Another question. Im looking for a sturdy pier rod which can handle kings 60+ or anything else. How did you cast that penn int? isnt it made for trolling?

  • @XXbigbooneXX These guys don't cast the boat rod and reel they use the two rod pin rig method. Tha rod standing straight up in the rod holder at the beginning of the video is the anchor rod, the international is on the the "fightin' rod" which also has the rig that the live bait is attached to. T anchor rod has a release clip that slides up and down the line.

  • What rod and reel were you using? And what lb test?

  • @XXbigbooneXX

Key largo Rod from Rick down in FL and a Penn Int 30vsw loaded with 40lb

  • nice king. nice shirt

  • @doehillkid

    thanks....reelkingin d o t com

  • @SubcultureS10 yea that place is nice i bought some anchors from there a while back

  • Can someone explain to me the best way to catch king mackerel off a pier? I'm use to going in a boat and I'm wanting to try the pier.

  • @aaadddaaammm777 pin rigg

  • badass, I only live like 30 minutes from that pier, I was trying to catch some spanish but the king fishermen took up the best spot :(

  • nice fishing and nice people at kure pier minus the old bitch that runs the store at night.

  • This is why NC fishing is the best in world =) alot of big games!

  • how do you know when to use a net or gaff? I always just pull it right up, but then again I never caught anything really big

  • nice fish man

  • Nice king! Hey man, I think the point is you landed the fish. Who cares how you got him on deck? Everyone has their own way of fishing, and if you don't fish your own way; then you arn't a real fisherman. All the power to you subculture, keep on rollin'...

  • Nice king! I think all these people should lay off you dude, who cares how many gaffs you use. The reality is it doesn't matter. The king ended up on deck and thats what matters. You have a certain way you fish, and everyone needs to get a life who criticizes you for that. Cause if you don't have your own way of fishing, then you arn't a real fisherman! Subculture, nice king.....keep up the good work bud.

  • Nice king! I think these guys need to lay off you dude, if your fishing and the ol' salts want to gaff that king with 2 gaffs, WHO CARES? The point is th king was landed, there's nothing else to say. All you guys who are criticizing him for this need to get a life, everyone fishes differently, and if you don't fish your own way, you arn't a real fisherman. That, is all I have to say on the matter! SUbculture, keep on rolling bro.......nice king

  • get a frabill dropnet

  • Guys, bottom line is the fish got on the pier, Regardless how bad or good the gaffing was! Please if you have nothing nice to say, don't say nothing. These guys in the video are friends and this video wasn't and isn't here for people to brag about themselves or down talk the gaffing job at hand. Thank you

  • dudes need to learn how to gaff.. Ive stuck 35lb's with my one gaff on apache pier here in myrtle and had no problem!!

  • @56ACE haha dumbass id like to see what you use to catch kings. if you have even caught one....everyone with a pin rig uses a boat rod. i guarentee if you said that out in the middle of the end of the pier i fish. you would get your ass whipped:)

  • @doehillkid i caught more kings then u prob even seen n im talkin bout SMOKERS not gonna mention no 10-15lb schoolers... what do i use 2 catch kings pier fishin? it depends what i decide 2 bring out that day. trinidad, speedmasters, newells, accurate, avet, penn 3/0-4/0-6/0 . also got 2 van staals n a few penn 706Z ...n all my shit on 8'-10'ft custom chaos/biscayne/star/lamiglass/crowder ect ect.... me get my ass kicked? bitch plz....i tossed plenty of ppl over 4 talkin shit...

  • cuaght a 20 or 25 pounder last friday that may b 18 or so but i could just b me idk my 20 or do pounder tired my arms out

  • that you hoop

  • that you hoop

  • decent king have caught bigger he weighs about 35 lbs but not much more definetly not a two gaff fish one gaff would have done just fine

  • wht did u need two gaffs?

  • Realy nice work!...

  • nice fish. Heading down to fish Kure pier and surf this week, then to Cape Lookout in Nov.

  • painful to watch. you boys need to come down to the panhandle with true king fisherman. dont know how you salvaged any meat off that fish. nice fish, but no where near 20#. 12# tops.

  • @micahtolar haha its not that hard to cast a bait to a king you can see. you are a real fisherman. lmfao

  • they should of just walked it up to the beach

  • Great job on the King. I don't think the "Old School" King Fishermen, had the gaffs that are custom made, like we do now. I think it's all in what the Angler wants. If he says 2, stick 2 in him.

I video'd one of my Buddies, landing a 29 lb'er, at surf City Pier, on Topsail Island, in mid July, 2009. Posted here. Check it out.

  • what was the whole point of the second gaff for?

  • cant you reel it up to the pier

  • Dude to the weight of the fish and the stress the monofilament has been through, were only using 30 lb test. So it would be or pull the hooks out due to the weight

  • then wat should i do cause i am going fishing from jhonnie mercer's pier and i dont have a graff

  • There will be some guys out there that will i'm sure and if they don't? Just ask the guys at the counter inside the pier house and im sure they will have one there if need be! Hope ya catch one

  • it was pretty weak out there i only caught pinfish

  • sucky gaff work...

  • my favorite bait is blues greenbacks mullet and menhaden... of course thats because i caught my kings on them this year my biggest was 35lbs 6oz on a finger mullet trying for a spanish... but nice catch...and nice reel is that a international 16s

  • nice king....where did you catch it? Its one of my Penn Int 30VSW series...LOVE it!

  • sry wat i ment to say is my biggest in my life was 35 6... but on myrtle beach state park pier in south carolina

  • That lip that comes out past the rail has to be a pain in the butt. That must not be much fun with a nice Cobia on.

  • HUGE pain....I gaffed a 110lb tarpon and that was REAL fun bring him up and over thost rails...

  • Two gaffs for that little King? Thats a little over kill dont you think? We dont use two gaffs for our Kings over 30 pds or even our Cobia.

  • I agree, but when you have old school guys out there with ya and they still go by old school rules and you fish with them90% of the time 14hrs a day? You just let them do what they want at that point. I've fought that war and lost

  • i doubt you could lift that over the rail even with a bigger rod, or it would be really hard...nice king, what did you use as bait

  • Christian, you sound like a intelligent person! I was using about a 12" Bluefish

  • oh, the best bait that seems to work is cigar minnows...12" huh? thats pretty big bait!

  • Live Bait specially Cigar Minnows "They're the best" and 12" Bluefish that's a huge bait though. Nice Catch!

  • well christian thts actually pretty normal sized bait.. and menhaden are the best bait but bluefish are always the runner up.. and great catch i caught the second king off my pier this year 21 sweet lbs. haha it was kinda the first bc the first one wasnt caght by a regular haha.. and bigest so thts pretty cool

  • yeah we use ballyhoo and cigar minnows if were on a boat. but ive seen some nice kings on bluefish! I havent gone kingfishing on a pier yet but im gonna in about a week :)

  • Get yourself a slightly larger rod and reel and winch that puppy up. Better yet get yourself a light spinning reel so we can all hear the drag sign instead having to dub in some music. Also my 16 year old 120 pound kid would have stuck that fish in the head and have it over the rail about the same time as the guy was climbing over it.

  • i would of used a bsaket net for one of those, we brought up a 30 pound redfish off springmaid pier with one.

  • gosh i love king fishing from a pier...

  • good catch mate! thanks for sharing

  • Nice video, I fish at Surf city Pier on Topsail Island, NC It's almost April. 09 and I'm ready to hear a reel SCREAM!! Good luck to you guys this year.

  • i love that pier. my home away from home. :)
