  • People don't realize the Beatle's "back to basics" sound, particularly on "Let it Be" came from listening to the Band.

  • Criminally Underrated.

  • Robertson's primarily a songwriter.

  • Nah, I like Robertson and I am a guitarist. Their songs were great, I just wish they had some real leads on them, but they came from a "folky" background.

  • Ronnie Hawkins isn't folky and they were his backing band before working with Bob Dylan then on their own, they have a long history

  • @rotagen5 their goal was to not have a leader, and they were a great band for it.

  • I love all these self-appointed guitar experts who have never produced a note and who attack musicians who have made--LIVE (Like a Rolling Stone, e;g.)--some of greatest guitar sounds in rock. Maybe it ain't conventionally--boring--technically mechanically-- great. Who cares? He plays like a genius.

  • Guitar players are a dime a dozen jblacktree, songwriters on the other hand.....

  • Too bad they haven't ever released the whole "The Last Waltz" show, you'd see him and Clapton jamming along and Clapton busts a string and Robertson jumps into the lead. the other place is to listen to Visions of Johanna by Dylan, Robbie is playing lead on it, in the background but turn it up and listen.

  • rotagen5: OK, so you have some kind of axe to grind.

Whatever it is, I don't want to hear it.

The Band did some timeless stuff.

    Get over it!!

  • gotta love these cats they truly rock!!!

  • sweet song, sweet times... r.i.p. to the 2 of you and good life to the others.
