Non-believers have a civic duty to come out. It's really very simple. If your loved ones require you to believe in God in order for them to love you, they really don't love you and probably never will. They are not worthy. Wash your hands of these people-- make asses out of them and slam their silly beliefs-- as often as possible. Call them out into the light of day and expose them for the hypocrites they all are. Remember: you have truth on your side, and the truth will set everyone free.
I agree, coming out atheist can be as bad or worse than coming out gay. I'm not gay, but when I came out as an atheist I was dis-invited to weddings I was previously invited to, shunned from most of my social circles, and disinherited by my grandparents.
Pretty much, the worst reaction each of these groups was capable of they did.
I love John Corvino, I enjoy watching and listening to his speech. I am a gay and also an atheist and is quite vocal about it as well. So i understand what he is saying. I think it depends with people. Not all gays are atheist, infact most gays I know arent atheist, many are very religious, so each of it has its own problem to deal with in different environment, in some situation it is worse being gay than atheist, in others it is worse being atheist than gay,and being a gay atheist is bad lol
I love him!!!!! It was so true for me... My parents had a COW when I came out at the age of 15 in 1990. But when I told them I wasn't a Christian, it was like the Earth opened and the flames of hell were licking at my feet. I adore him and his entire effort here. I wouldn't call myself an atheist though, I worship many things. ;-)
John did a teriffic presentation at Skepticon3. This conference is well worth the effort for anyone interested in critical thinking in general, and its application to non-belief in particular. Thanks to Rob for the video, JT, and his stellar constellation of assistants, and all the event speakers for this fabulous event. I look forward to Skepticon n+1 in the future.
You should put all the videos together and make a dvd and sell them, it would be a great way to make money for the convention, I would definitely buy one!
@dash081 There is roughly 16 hours of footage, even with dual layers it's going to be in the realm of 10-15 DVDs. I don't think that it's feasible considering a lot of the speakers have not consented to selling their image for profit. Mastering 15 DVDs to sell them at cost is a little more work than I'm willing to do at the moment with all of the other work that still needs to be done on the vids.
Thank you so much for watching this, I appreciate it a lot
Thanks so much Rob! Very much appreciated, especially being full length and not cut up in 10 min segments (how'd you DO that). Great sound. Great picture! Awesome!
@bronzeladdy53 some youtube channels that have been around for a while and behaved themselves (not broken any youtube rules about copyright and stuff) get this privilege - indeed I hate to brag but my account also has this ability now.
Totally off topic, but doesn't he look a bit like the singer from the Pet Shop Boys?

Is it just me or does anyone else think John Corvino is kinda hot?
It's also refreshing to see that he's not our typical flamboyant representation.

@Refining1 Admittedly, he is rather handsome.

Excellent video thanks! this channel really needs to have a "view explosion" cause 615 views for something so valuable/epic is just a shame.
John Corvino looks like a funny version of Jerry Seinfeld- epic person.
Love the microphone chick at the end.

Excellent presentation (and a great quality video, too). I'm so disappointed that I didn't make it! I'll do my damnedest to get to the next one.
