i watched this movie in my english class recently and my class' desks are like a square with one side not there and two rows for each side and the back row of one of those sides are me and my friends... practically all of us were crying at this scene... and the sad thing is .. i was BAWLING while everyone was just like "sniff sniff"... i went to the bathroom afterwards and my eyeliner were MESSED UP -_-; .. now everyone's like "aww dont cry" everyday LOL
I'm a bitter cynical white heterosexual male with a really crude and sarcastic sense of humor. And this film touched me deeply. Man I didn't know Danny Glover and Whoopie Goldberg had it in them. I was 14 when this film came out and just saw it about a month ago. Amidst the goofiness of the 80's great things were made.
This is the most BEAUTIFUL scene in a movie I have seen THUS far in my 21 years of life. I grew up with this film and I appreciate it to every depth. It demonstrates the TRUE meaning and importance of love, belonging, respect & family <3 Thanks for uploading!
@lilpatakapwillz Ugly or not...she's been an A list star for over 30 years...not many can say that. Beside she's comfortable with the way she looks, she's made that quite clear.
thank you very much! my mom and i share a bond thru this movie. especially this part. in fact, my mom's nickname is 'mama boonie' bc of what adam says to celie! and yes, i'm crying but smiling too!
@AGpixar2000 I think it might be to remind us of the fact that Celie had a hard life, and she aged faster than Nettie. Nettie didn't have to deal with at the shit Celie did so she is in better condition
SO POWERFULL, IF YOU DO NOT CRY IT IS BECAUSE YOUR HART IS MADE OF SAND, I DO REMEMEBER THE FIRST TIME, I CRIED. AND CRIED AND CRIED, A PERFECT PERFORMANCES OF ALL OF THEM, SPILDBERG YOU REALLY GOT A HIT, SO BAD NO ACADEMY AWARDS WERE GIVEN, BUT DOES NOT MATTER THIS MOVIE IS A GOLD HEART ACADEMY WINNER FROM ALL TIMES IN THE WORLD
@gonzo77ffm I don't cry very often at movies -- I don't know why: I just don't -- but when I saw this movie many years ago, I cried during this scene, all through the credits and after the lights came up. The couple in front of us were so worried that they asked my husband if I were all right. I haven't seen the movie since (I think I've been half afraid to), and seeing this scene once again made me sob uncontrollably.
I just watched this movine earlier on a vhs recording tape since the movie came on the Oprah channel. The ending gets me almost to tears and I'm a guy for crying out loud LOL. I dunno if its because of Celie's reunion with her son and daughter or someting but I almost cry everytime I watch Celie's son talk to her in his half english and half african language
@urrutiap being a "guy" doesnt stop tears of joy from coming to ones own eyes!! I love it when a man cries because that shows me that he has feelings and iis sensitive!! of course we all have to be serious and strong when needed but never be afraid to cry when you have to!!!
@6soccerchix The one with the glasses. It's called Celie's reunion because she's finally reunited with her childre, who were taken from her when they were born. And her sister, who was kept from her by her husband. If you haven't seen the movie you need to watch it. It makes this scene that much more powerful because you understand what she went through to get to this point.
This has always been my favorite movie, and this is my favorite part. The emotions are so real,it truly touches your heart.I've seen this at least twenty times, and i cry every single time.
best drama of all time. nothing captures the love between two sisters like this one. if someone watches this movie and doesn't at least tear up, then ice water and shug avery pee is flowing through their veins!
i saw this movie for the first time when it came out on VHS..remember those?! i was only six, but remember the emotions being very vivid. it wasn't until i was about twenty and went back to it, and i have been in love with it ever since. i have only a sister and have never viewed a movie that captures that love and devotion like this one. best drama of all time!
i saw this movie in the movie theater when it came out i was about 13 years old and it is still one of my favorite movies ever. it is an absolute injustice that this movie didn't win any oscars.
i saw this movie in the movie theater when it came out i was abou 13 years old and it is still one of my favorite movies ever. it is an absolute injustice that this movie didn't win any oscars.
When they showed her family from Africa just standing there i instantly broke down and cried, it was so sad and for her to reunite after so long.. it was good but it was sad. It gets me everytttime
*sniff* the music, the emotional intensity, the background, the sun, the flowers, that sweet old house...........*WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH* I wanna go home!
@hj351 he he he. u are so funny. i feel the same way. beautiful movie. my daughter and i watch it every thanksgiving evening as if we never saw it before. now my granddaughter is part of it. i think every woman should see this movie.
The greatest achievement of that scene is to have the audience cry out of happiness not out of sadness. It is incredibly harder to do but Spielberg hits all the right notes and the acting is just amazing. This film is a masterpiece.
Steven Spielberg is pure genious. Good big cries everytime Nettie and Celie's Children arrive and every time Shug Avery reunites with her pastor father singing god is gonna save you! Been watching that movie for over 30 years!
I was adopted when I was 2 years old. Everytime I see this segment of "The Color Purple," it makes me realize how I would feel when I would be reunited with my family again. @Quannett I did not know my father or his"other family" .When I see this scene it makes me think of reunion too-and I cry like a baby-and Im 53 -oy !
Truth is shown "nothin but death can keep me from it!" Such an awesome movie and similar feeling like Precious when I watched it but more historical.
The acting presented on this film is so good, it feels real it breaks my heart and makes me cry!
