I took a road trip last year from central massachusetts to northern vermont on my ninja 500 (250 miles). It's just not a good bike for long trips. I hurt all over. The riding position puts a lot of strain on the back and shoulders and the front of the seat squishes your junk. Sport bikes in general are just not comfortable for long trips. I love my ninja for commuting and short rides, but I'll trade it in for a Kawasaki Versys before I try another long trip.

With some bar end weights, maybe some different grips, and some bar risers, the Ninja 500 can make a fine long distance bike.

Im going to try - i dont have a helmet cam - but am looking into some options ... its too long a trip not to do that
