That is one of the coolest things I've ever seen when it comes to suspending a light over an aquarium. I'm very impressed and I hope you don't mind me stealing that idea for a few customers aquariums as well. :) thank again. simply genius.
wow so you wasted all that time and money so you didnt have to take 2 seconds and lift it up yourself not to mention you should have invested in some decent corals and livestock before wasting money on this lol and like nugburner420 said this is an accident waiting to happen.
Thanks for all the feedback. :-) The automatic lift gives me many advantages. Easy access for maintenance - allows for new coral light acclimation (raise canopy, then gradually lower over a week) - the coolness factor - no blinding from extreme bright halides when I feed the fish - easy bulb changes - the coolness factor - easier PAR (photosynthetic active radiation) readings - no need to bug my wife to remove the 6ft 70lb canopy - did I mention the coolness factor! :-)
@samsreef hey, if you would like some great fish tank lighting, please check out bblites.com. we sell LED pixel sticks, which have three auto-fading lights. red, green and blue. please leave me a message for more information. thank you
once its established ...they are easier to take care of then a freshwater tank.. especially if you go bigger.. my shops 125 cares for itself ...and $ wise go piece by piece.. new tanks you can only put certain cheaper things in anyways
it would be awesome to get one that slowly passes over the tank over a 10 hour period that simulates the sun passing overhead during morning afternoon and evening
43kg (about 95lbs). Having the two separate reef structures in the tank allowed to cut my live rock budget in half. I also like the open aquascape. :-)
I started out with T5's only and have since added metal halides. My light system is 3x150w HQI Radium 20K with 8x39w T5 Icecap SLR UVL Super Actinic, Actinic+ and Aquablue+.
i think this tank is cool, this guy must have a thing for those type of fish. i would have different types of tangs, lots of blue chromis, things that really color the tank.
That's kinda cool. But honestly what the hell is that for. What a waste of money I'd use that towards new fish. Nice reef, must've costed u a fortune...
Thanks for the compliments. Just under 100lbs of mixed Pukani and Kaelini (Pacific) rock. Doing the two separate areas allowed me to get away with using a bit less live rock.

dude, good on you for putting whatever YOU want in YOUR tank, looks good, motorised hood is pretty trick, screw what everyone else thinks you need in your tank :P
We clean our tanks, lol. Nah, seriously, if you want to get your' tank to crystal clear water, do a 50% water change, everyday for about a week. If you can't be arsed to do that, but I would only reccomend this as a last resort, get a UV Sterilizer.
dude, how did you do that on the hood??? i would love to do something like that on mine...if you didn't do it, who did? any info would be appreciated.
That motorized hood is awesome. I've seen a lot of reef tanks and this is the first motorized hood like that I have seen. Very ingenious. Reef could use a little more, but the hood is cool.
Nice hood. Boring fish

So once you hit the button once it will extend all the way? Or can you adjust the height of the canopy a little at a time?
shmalikify 9 months ago
My attempt at this would involve the use of a rope and pulley haha.

how do u make the water blue?
littlehawk299 1 year ago
@littlehawk299 clearly it's food coloring!
but seriously, it's higher kelvin bulbs, daylight bulbs sit at 6500K and the higher you go (up to about 20 000K) the more blue you get.
sharpiesreef 1 year ago
@sharpiesreef I have a 20 gallon tank , so can i buy a blue bulb in the pet shop and use that to give the blue effect.? thx
littlehawk299 1 year ago
@littlehawk299 you would buy an "actinic blue" or "Fiji Purple" bulb, if it's freshwater then the bulb choice is of no consequence.
