  • It's a good thing nobody ever told him to "break a leg".

  • At 3:00, he quotes Shakespeare (Merchant of Venise).

  • The smallest prime factor of 30,031 is 1 :P.

  • He DOES read her mind he just can´t show it. If it´s relevant I have felt the same several times as an asperger...

  • Those are not metaphors which he is mentioning. They are cultural sayings. I forgot the right term for them but they are certainly not metaphors. All that glitters is not gold, is a folk-saying. It´s people´s wisdom. It´s not a metaphor for anything.

  • Fat bitch, Kim KNOWS exactly how you felt toward him, looking at ALL those distasteful expressions you had when sitting across the table and facing him.

And thus, he was TALKING straight into YOUR heart's deepest and darkest fear - "you don't want me to be around you" (6:58); "Are you a great lady like everyone else?" (7:51).

While you were thinking that you could use your most retarded and thinnest layer of 'intelligence' to READ Kim, he had already read (thru) you like an open book. Bitch!

  • I'd rather see the entire conversation between them than see the fat Caltech lady comment on him.

  • I like the way he tells everyone that they're a "great lady" or an "important person" because I believe that's true of everyone.

  • this is the most interesting part of the documentary, the psychological aspect of it

  • Even with the largest mass of white matter in his brain missing, Kim Peek is more likeable and more talented than the fucking hormonal talentless cunt evaluating him towards the end of this clip. I think the fact that incompetent people are being hired to these positions is appalling, and we should be having a discussion as a society about what measures we should be implementing in the future to keep our professionals professional.

  • how could you possibly dislike this?....-_-

  • That woman is a bitch who needs to get a grip.

  • piiiie!!!

  • kim peek reincarnated into a universe

  • Who are those people who press the dislike button? I mean, it would be intresting to do a psycology-test on them or something!? Did they press the dislike button because of bad eye-sight, to much to drink, rebelious mood etc. ?

Oh well...in the end...probably just a bunch of communist-socialists, they tend to dislike differences of any sort.

  • why would 12 people dislike this?!?

  • @MrCojue It´s like lady gagas balls... shouldnt be there!

  • i wonder if he would say the ceiling if you asked him, "what's up?"

  • hes like amelia bedelia

  • In honour of Kim Peek I learned the calender calculator as well..

I can now do this in my head in about 20-30 seconds.. still working hard at it.

Rest in glorious peace and light.

  • Would it be possible to remove the cortex to become like Kim? Can man modify our own brains limits?

  • lol the u.s. postal service guy thought he was about to be assaulted by kim

  • anybody who dislikes this man is ungodly.

  • I never realised he died last year till I saw the comments. That sucks, must be really hard on his father to outlive him as well. They spent all their time together

  • @Nikon05 Yeah, but it's better that he didn't outlive his father because he depended on him so much. I know his father will miss him dearly, but he lives on in peoples hearts.

  • The guy on the laptop around 2:10 sounds like michael buckley haha

  • If doesn't no about metaphors teach him what they are..

  • @TonyF273 How do you explain a metaphor to someone who doesn't understand conceptual thinking?

  • @TonyF273 I don't think you understand. His brain wasn't wired in the same way as ours. No matter how much you try to teach him what a metaphor is, he wouldn't have been able to grasp the concept.

  • Wonderful story of an extraordinary human being!

  • Fascinating that, for all his incredible feats of memory, comprehending metaphors and conceptual linking are impossible for him.

  • Comment removed

  • that woman psychologist was incompetent.

  • Who wants to be a millionaire?

  • Salute to Fran Peek

  • my mom met him because we live in SLC

  • i wish he didnt die...

  • this proves the fact that psychologists are talentless losers that think they're God.

  • @J4YM5

    How?

  • @HelenKellersArmy they think they can mind read and they have the power to drug and lock up people.

quite simple really, got to be talentless to wanna be that kind of person.

  • @J4YM5

Wow, you've obviously never met a psychologist and probably never even studied psychology. Ignorance is a bad disease.

  • @HelenKellersArmy dont you see the irony in that comment?

  • @J4YM5

What? No, I don't. How is that ironic?

I still don't understand how this video proves your first point, by the way.

  • @HelenKellersArmy solipsistic, you really proved my point

  • Captain Zipcode looked a lil uneasy there..

  • did kim died

  • @MatsEP yeah, in december 2009 RIP

  • Who can't love this guy? Who can't love this extraordinary man?

  • When he's chuckling and talking he sort of sounds like John Madden.

  • RIP, a genuis

a human like KIM probably come around once every 100 yrs

  • Seriously, imagine the number of people in a similar category like Kim who never got a chance to nuture their amazing abilities for one reason or another (low IQ test, so people think they are "stupid"). Even if it's only like two per decade, thats two too many.

  • he doesnt actually understand anything .

  • @LTran21 Yes he does that's why he is unique, most savants memorised the information without understanding it, Kim understood it.

  • @canflagnothing Hey get a grip of yourself.

  • @LTran21 Merely stating the truth

  • @LTran21 and you do?

  • @beautifuledie You're not exactly a rocket scientist are you ?

  • @LTran21 and when did i say i was? so i'm assuming your a rocket scientist?

  • @beautifuledie Wow i didnt think id have to actually explain myself for this one. Its a metaphor also known as a figure of speech. Ask your mom about it maybe she can explain it better for you.

  • he is sweet. and i would like to meet him one day :-)

  • @mujkocka Hes died, sorry

  • Who the hell wants your so called "social skills". Kim Peek was free of these constraints! That made him one of the luckiest people to have ever lived.

  • @Janus108 lucky my ass

  • mr. peek is extraordinary but i can't help laughing cause he sounds wasted

  • 6:13 "His way of communicating is somewhat unorthodox..."

    (Kim flapping arms) "BRZHERGHURGHRRR!!!!!"

  • its all that glisters is not gold....jus ayin :P

  • OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG

  • "Social skills" is just a bias towards social thinking, manners, and other dogmatic societal concepts. Now, why would this guy care for dogma?

  • god blessed him with that type of knowledge, thats serious!

  • you are my wondergiirl... Arcie:)

  • this woman seems very judgemental and not very empathetic.....

  • @sexyred4lance: agreed, and she seems to be demeaning his intelligence and writing it off as 'oh, well other savants know a lot of one subject. He just happens to know a lot about multiple subjects', rather than acknowledging how stunning and unique his condition is

  • @cactusfarm Agreed.

  • "The fact that you don't care is irrevelant to him because at least he's giving something."

  • he talks like john madden...

  • i love how Ramachandran rolls his R's ! hilarious

  • It was such a loss when he died.

  • "Pie was!"

    *big grin, contented grumbling noise*

  • sleep in peace kim peek.

    my condolence to his family.

  • @yong2x85 you dont give a fuck

  • @yong2x85 Yeah I wish I could have met Kim too.....he seems like such a gentle person!

  • Kim is quite remarkable and probably one of the 7 wonders of the intellectual world.

  • @JoeyFudd So do you feel superior to him? At least he was pure and wanted to touch people, he'd tell them how special they were. And here you are demeaning him in a way. Shame.

  • Stillness, how dare you try to shame anyone for speaking the truth. You're a politically correct monster, the type that's ruining this country. You probably tried to silence the scientists who spoke truth to Al Gore's dogma too, for "demeaning him in a way." You make me sick with your holier--than-thou tone. You are a fraud. My point was entirely valid. He did have a blind spot in his understanding. You use sentimental twaddle to mask the truth. Shame on you, you piece of PC garbage!

  • @JoeyFudd Here you go, slandering people you don't even know.

  • I'm sure the technology exists to be able turn off - and on the corpus collosum - would be interesting to see it in action.

  • "He doesn't know how to look his message in the stars" , one could interpret this as Kim saying Bush is not intelligent and/or well spoken. I think he gets metaphors better than this quack seems to.

  • No, this doctor is not a quack at all. He has gotten to the core of the issue better than anyone else. The screenwriter and Hoffman did not discover his conclusion. If anyone was told to "get a grip" on themself and grabbed themself, that shows a fundamental problem in understanding the language-game. Same with the "rocket scientist" remark. If Kim were better with concepts and intentions, he would say, like any ten year old, that it means simply that Bush is not too book smart.

  • great point! and I agree.

  • I read somewhere today that his father said he had started to develop a sense of humour, from around 2004 onwards. I guess that might mean make some sort of joke or whatever. What an amazing person, and I think because he COULD understand, to a point, and they were able to study MRIs etc, may help much with brain damage, etc

  • Rest In Peace Kim Peek

  • R.I.P. Kim. Respect

  • RIP kim

  • R.I.P Kim, an extraordinary human being!

  • What a unique person, and it's too bad that his brilliant memory came at such a horrible cost.

  • 5:44 "You know that"????

I love the way he says that.

  • I find it hard to believe that Kim is incapable of understanding metaphors. Kim has said "My dad and I share the same shadow". I suppose it's possible he just meant it literally (like when they walk together), or that someone else said it and he memorized it, but it still seems poetic.

As for his reaction to the phrase "Get a grip on yourself", it sounds like that might just be his sense of humour.

  • im pretty sure he would say all the words out of the list by him self you dummy dr.:))) :P

  • It was good to see that more than a few of the folks posting comments, here, sensed the sickening arrogance on display among the so-called educated, in this report. The same ship of fools(outwardly learned-inwardly insecure & small) that , unfortunately, managed to take advantage of an anesthetized American public/electorate last Nov

I like the way Kim throws in "(man) of promise" to the Postal employee. Did he not grasp the concept of unfulfilled expectation or 'promise', in this instance?

  • learn to speak english plz.

  • don't you just love the way the Indian dude tries to sneak a little slight in there- at of all people. "Dubya"(at about the 3:06 mark) when using metaphors to test the savant. G.W Bush's SAT score, in the era when such an exam served as an accurate measure of native intelligence, was significantly higher than scores achieved by overwhelming majority of his contemporaries

  • I Definitely love this guy!! he is amazing!

  • Damn, why are these topics so attractive to some types that obviously can't handle jelousy of one person being actual smarter then them in one direction? Are you trying to cope here on youtube after a hard day of work at your local supermarket?

  • Are you insinuating that all supermarket workers are cretinous? I can name 4 people who work at my local safeway who hold majors in respectable and complex subjects. Your generalization is offensive. If you weren't doing what I think you are doing then sorry, but It really sounds like so.

  • Why hello Mr.Troll, how may I help you, oh I will help you but I can't feed you soz :(

  • SHUT THE FUCK UP =D

  • ASD people have great difficulty with categorization - they see the trees but not the forest. They have trouble with figures of speech, metaphors, and jokes. They are very literal - you can teach them to improve in all of these areas, however. Temple Grandin learned to tell jokes, and to make herself chuckle, to jokes she did not think were funny. She just learned how to fit in socially.

  • Isn't that the same affectation most "normal" people employ?

  • Absolutely. People with ASD are the same as anyone else, it's all on a sliding scale. I might tap my foot if I am nervous, someone with ASD might stim in a much more noticeable and socially unusual way. We are all the same and in many ways people with ASD are BETTER people than NTs, - they can not and do not lie, they are loyal, they have an innate innocense that makes them trust others. I adore them, and am so priviledged to work with them.

  • Right on. What do you mean by the acronym: NT?

I like the concept of spectrum, and I think it should be applied to a lot more things.

    Keep up the good work.

    -Nothing Stops Kings

  • Thank you, that means a lot to me. NT means "Neurotypical", as in "Non-ASD". It replaces the innacurate term "Normal".

I like the spectrum concept too, and in my field we see ASD people with severe autism (rocking on the floor under the table, no speech, no communication) on one end, and someone like Bill Gates with Asperger Syndrome on the far end of the other side. I think you are right, more things in life should be seen on a spectrum, things are not all black or white.

    Take care!

  • I wanna kill that kid who asked about the prime factor in the end.. where the hell would kim have read that?

  • i know right but at least he had some sarcastic humor for him, "what is it", kinda like his way of saying, you tell me since you know everything smart ass, lol

  • heh, you never know, but it would be awesome if Kim meant it that way ^^

  • i understand why its annoying but its actually a good question. its not random, its quite a famous number in the theory of numbers in mathematics where a basic proof breaks down. fair enough that the kid wanted to test the guy, shame he didn't know the answer. if he'd have got that one would have been super impressive!!

  • But since numbers are kims weakness, why would be ever read about them?

  • true

  • Take note of Kim's rocket scientist metaphor definition. Tell me he can't conceptualize a metaphor.

  • NUTS!

  • haha, that postal worker got showed up....

  • Vince what exactly is intelligence? Defined in our arrogant and meagre means, it's the ability to work out how to button up a shirt, or comb your hair. Kim fucks that out the window as completely unimportant to him. He can direct you to almost anywhere in the world, given a starting location, with exit numbers. I can barely use my sat nav most of the time. He can cross reference dates and link events and topics directly to others. Intelligent? Most definitely but not nearly on our terms.

  • Intelligence is not remembering things and simply accumulating knowledge. Intelligence is the ability to solve problems and find novel solutions based on the knowledge you have. So yes, the ability to figure out (mentally) how to button up a shirt is a sign of intelligence. Merely storing things in your memory without the ability of doing anything new and useful with it is not intelligence. I'm sure you wouldn't call you sat nav "intelligent" just because it stores info & recalls it on demand.

  • Are you threatened by Kim Peek? Do you feel that because he has such a great memory that you should talk crap about him to level the playing field? Your bad intentions are maladaptive, and expresses your poor training..A family tradition? If that is what you have to do...

  • i never talked crap about him, just saying it as it is.

btw, you are an idiot and that is probably YOUR family tradition of idiocy.

  • You are totally biased, and feeling a little inadequate aren't you?

How can you be so quick to judge?

How do you know if you are:"saying it as it is"?

Do you go directly to attack mode when someone "threatens" your current inadequate way of perceiving?

I hope you become better with age my friend, if you are that lucky.

  • dude... just fuck off

  • No thank you: )

    -Nothing Stops Kings

  • If you could watch the video without prejudice and contempt, you might see that they are amazed at the way Kim Peek uses his knowledge and intelligence by creating novel/unexpected associations.

  • is it possible that his mental disiblity is caused by the brain abnormality instead of the smart thing

  • It is due to the abnormality. I ate dinner with Kim and his father and this dad re-iterated this as well.

  • He is so extremly cute.

  • The zip code dude was about to freak out when Kim touched him... rude ... :<

  • the last dr

looks like the fat monica geller

  • courtney cox

  • No you won't! You won't touch me!

This is a truly amazing guy.

  • that one guy looks like jesse jackson

  • so suppose I ignore conceptual encoding a bit i doubt ill be able to skim a page and know 98% of it (despite having fast as reading speed with high comprehension rate due to AS maybe a bit) this gues friggin curpus collosum is diluted through the entire brain it aint missing it makes super salient connections for many areas of his pretty huge brain anyway I bet his hippocampus is bigger than that of a london cab driver.

  • i think kim is beautiful, he has been through sooo much jugdement and at the end of the day he's just himself. how many of us can say we've done that. lets leave him alone and let him live his life enjoying what he wants

  • lol that zip code dude doesnt know how to take kim all crowding him. the look on his face is priceless!!

  • that cocky bitch at the end shouldn't be working with these patients. She's so arrogant and snotty - yet has a huge fat ass. If she was really smart - she'd probably go jogging. hm.

  • nice! woohooo!

  • Can someone explain that whole thing about someone being late for a golf game plz,was it him or a doctor and what happened, thx

  • Wow that psychiatry lady in the end sure knows how to put people down. I'm diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder and I had the same attitude with various psych ladies my parents sent me too, basically filling my head with the idea that I'll be forever incompetent, by just finding faults and being cold as ice about it. I'd say Kims is a lot more socially acceptable in that case, at least to me. Better than some woman who just puts people down while sounding all jolly.

  • Kinda makes you think about Kim's first doctor, who was late for the golf game.

  • Comment removed

  • I think he understands metaphors more than they realize.

  • I agree, he just doesn't think in the same stream, but then again, not everyone thinks in the same stream.

  • yeah. those neuroscientists are stupid. they have only went to school most of their lives. what do they know?

  • I didn't categorize anybody as stupid.

  • Oh? How so? He seemed to be having a hard time...

  • lol imagine if you told him to stick it up his ass.

  • 3,2,1...i got it away from you!!!!!

  • GOLD TOOTH

  • Kim is not only a genius, he is so funny too. 1:18, GOLDTOOTH! I wish I could meet him.

  • ah u fuggggggit garbledy goop

  • i wouldn't hate to be like that. He is a fucking genius. i would love to be able to do math however but still hes an extremely intelligent person.
