Awesome they will be great particularly for cleaning up algae. Depending on what species they are you should see lots of action. Try and get some Aussie natives such as rainbows or hardyheads or blue eyes if you can. Many of these fish come from Queensland so you are in a great loacation :)
well most need a heater , which l dont have or want, but im sure i can find something, i might get a crayfish, or ill go down the creek at the bottom of my street with a net and catch something
Not in Queensland temperatures. I never use a heater and my fish are fine and healthy. A lot of these fish live in the wild in Queensland so they will be fine at room temperature. Heaters are better for southern australia and europe where it gets colder but for most if not all aussie species you do not really need one :)
You should have a good choice of fish where you are and cray fish are good though they can eat or catch smaller fish. Some bliue eyes or rainbows or hardyheads would look awesome but the best satisfaction is catching your own which I am yet to do.
@kensington25 I definitely use heaters in western Brisbane. The really northern rainbows drop like flies when it hits 13 degrees. Did I spot some blue-eyes in there?
@adamonthetube Yes there are many blue eyes. Also lots of smelt and glass fish and some galaxias. In my home aquarium I do not use a heater as they are local species and have no problems with the temperatures which are a bit warmer than they would have in the wild any way.
@kensington25 It is certainly an advantage to catch your own fish locally. Galaxies can tolerate bitterly cold water can't they? I have never kept them. I tried catching smelt. They all died of osmotic shock in the net. I gave up, poor things. haha
@adamonthetube Absolutely. Galaxias can cope with very cold temperatures for sure. Smelt die very easily of shock so they need salt in the bag. Very delicate fish but great once settled in. I love mullet. My friend caught some mullet and gave me some. I never thought of keeping them but they are very hardy and very playful fish. Great to watch. You sadly can't breed them though but great and underated fish.
These native fish are of course freshwater fish within the homeland. The saltwater fish include the parrot and angel fish in the great barrier reef, as well as so many of the exotics...they are also kinda sorta native, but the ocean has no borders...
If you ever want to harvest some of that fishtank weed, just go to Yarrawonga / Lake Mulwala on the Murray river on the border of NSW and Victoria. The whole lake is full of fish tank weeds. They are thinking of dredging the lake and using the water weeds as ethanol...
feed these to my oscar's and jacks.
even sleepy cod -_-

What a nice clean tank William. You are taking such good care of your little fishies. And what a nice home you've made for them. :)

Thank you so much Dave. That is the tank I have won but I am waiting for it be delivered. I hope I can keep it in as good a state as there :)

Looks really nice. Watching fish swim around like that always hypnotises me, when I see a fish tank I can stand there for ages and just watch.
