This old Sabbath stuff rules. To me, "metal" in later years doesn't even resemble this. This is good old, dirty classic rock. The funny thing is, the critics never liked them. But I bet if this exact album, or Vol.4, or Never Say Die, came out now, and nobody knew who they were, they'd be critic's darlings, everyone praising their retro sound.

They had so much in common in terms of musical influences and centrist politics--neither act leaned too far to the Left or to the Right. Apparently, Osbourne and Zappa kept in contact in California right up until Frank's death in '93. It's so unfortunate the two great acts never made it to vinyl together.
