This is hands down, hands down!, the best Sabbath song ever! The universal truth of all of their acid trips coagulates into the lyrics of this song. This is what we all forgot upon birth into this world. That and the riff rocks your face off.
@HulkHoganfan89 well i cant disagree with you on that one....no ozzy,no real Sabbath......but Dio did actually pretty good on that album with Sabbath.....i recommend you hearing at least a track or two from it..........
@HulkHoganfan89 you gotta get all 8 or 9 that ozzy did with Sabbath dude......seriously you are missing out on ALOT of awesome stuff if you only have 3 Sabbath albums
@peixefbpa WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU!?!?!?!?!?(btw im not saying there is anything wrong with you liking that version better i respectfully respect your choice of music) just saying that you like the version that is not even the whole song......just sayyyiiinngg........
@radzio777 Metallica will never be on the same level as Black Sabbath. Only Tony Iommi could come up with such an amazing and unique riff such as this :D.
I've always loved this song, but I don't think I've ever realized how long it stays in your head after you've heard it. I've been humming this damn song for about two weeks now. :)
THE THOUGHTS AND IMAGES, THE UNBORN CHILD THAT NEVER WAS CONCEIVED....that line sent me on a journey through the cosmos on a journey into the promised land of Shangri la...
@johnnycheck99 Their 2nd Album in 1970 was VERY popular with VietNam Vets who were drafted into war...The song Paraniod may have been on a 45-rpm single..Not sure...Commercial success was around the 1970 release of Paranoid and very little, if any afterward.....Black Sabbath is still THE Band that raised the bar for Heavy Metal and in the opinion of many including me, IS the 1st Heavy Metal band with that doom/gloom tone!
This old Sabbath stuff rules. To me, "metal" in later years doesn't even resemble this. This is good old, dirty classic rock. The funny thing is, the critics never liked them. But I bet if this exact album, or Vol.4, or Never Say Die, came out now, and nobody knew who they were, they'd be critic's darlings, everyone praising their retro sound.
@MckyMseNTarotCrds I don't think future bands will have this kind of sound .... Although sabbath rules they aren't mainstream anymore. Mainstream now is autotune and electric techno. There's no attitude in today's music.
people often shit on sabbbath's lyrics but I actually like the lyrics to this song. I mean its as creative as they could be with lyrics, with geezers writing. They aren't atrocious but often Geezer leaves a lot to be desired. These are pretty good though. BUT MAN THAT MONSTER RIFF. I LOVE THAT RIFF. THE RIFF GODS DEF BLESSED IOMI!!!
Man!!! I just have to keep coming back and listening to this guitar riff. Its One of sabbath's best if not the best. I don't really care for much else about the song than that riff. AWESOME!!!
A masterpiece, which--as I've stated before--would make an excellent little ballet--like Zappa's 'Little Umbrellas'. Sabbath and The Mothers were good friends.
@sonicdeath10 It's really too bad that they never pulled off the gig that both bands wanted to do: a Zappa/Mothers/Sabbath record. They tossed the idea around for years. They had so much in common in terms of musical influences and centrist politics--neither act leaned too far to the Left or to the Right. Apparently, Osbourne and Zappa kept in contact in California right up until Frank's death in '93. It's so unfortunate the two great acts never made it to vinyl together.
@jannyrcobs I'm a huge Zappa fan and I've never heard that. It's really interesting though to consider Zappa and Ozzy as friends. I can see it definitely, I just wouldn't have thought so otherwise.
Living and growing up in a 3rd world country that has now gone into a 7th world country...This album was my TREASURE as a LP Record... Totally banned then..

It is the main riff of national acrobat(with some differences obviously)

National acrobat 0.01-0.14 then fade to black 3.56-4.10
Please guys thunb up this post because i get the same question all the time.I am not talkign gabout a rip off here but for a "genius" steal. It took me years to find it out.
Metallica are metallica. Sabbath are Sabbath. Who really gives a f**k who is better. Nobody could ever replace either. I was there in the early 70's growing up with Sabbath and buying their albums. People have their opinons - fine. These guys were fortunate to be there in the 70's and if it wasn't them it would have been somebody else. The world needs more rock bands and not pansy shite. Metallica, Sabbath, Purple, Rainbow, Maiden, Rush, Priest and Floyd - they are all Gods. Rock must live!
@Henrykissenger i'm not so sure that if they hadn't been there then someone else would have done the same thing, sabbath did something special, rock n roll was started by quite a few good bands, but metal was non existent before sabbath, and every metal band after them for 15 years were heavily influenced, even bands after them owe the the genre of music they play to tony iommi
@Henrykissenger Yup! i say this repeatedly! MUSIC IS NOT A COMPETITION!!!! go watch footbal or hockey or baseball for competition! I do every day! Music is to make you feel and think and groove! i hate the --Joe Blow vs, Pecherwood type vid's with random spliced riffs and leads from each of the players or bands. its as fun as watching an egg boil!
I am the world that hides The universal secret of all time Destruction of the empty spaces Is my one and only crime I've lived a thousand times I found out what it means to be believed The thoughts and images The unborn child that never was conceived When little worlds collide I'm trapped inside my embryonic cell And flashing memories Are cast into the never ending well The name that scorns the face ...
fuck you. How bout you try it out first. If you ask any metal band that started in the 80s and 90s what their influences were they will say black sabbath.
