Kellogg's was the "alternate sponsor" with Liggett & Myers during the season, 'tom'. Carter-Wallace was probably an "alternate"-alternate sponsor during the summer, replacing Kellogg's (in the fall of '60, they co-sponsored "THE GARLUND TOUCH", which replaced "HOTEL DE PAREE"...which gave way to Jackie Gleason's infamous "YOU'RE IN THE PICTURE").
We can keep the TWILIGHT ZONE connection going with the director of this episode, Ida Lupino. She is the only person to act in an episode of the show ("The Sixteen-Millimeter Shrine") and direct one ("The Masks").
Oh, yes- Jack Lescoulie (best known for his appearances on "THE TODAY SHOW", and the original announcer on "THE JACKIE GLEASON SHOW") is L&M's spokesman...
Originally telecast on November 27, 1959, under the sponsorship of Kellogg's {they also brought you Hanna-Barbera's "QUICK DRAW McGRAW" in syndication every week}, with an alternate sponsor's message for primary sponsor Liggett & Myers [L&M] at the very end.
Talk about a time-machine trip back to fifty years ago... The silver TV screen preserved--just as it was, replete with a long-forbidden tobacco commercial... Thanks for this unvarnished, slice-of-life adventure! How and where did you ever find such a relic? Sundance, Sundance .... my heart's riding with you.
Thank you! I've wanted to see this for ages but for some reason I always thought the show was called "Sundance". No wonder I could never find it. And thank you for commercials - always so much fun to see.:)
@CruelestSea me too.....I always thought it was "Sundance too".....this is the first time i've seen it since 1959. Although I was very young i do remember it. My brother and I always watched it
Agree w/KCOliver1960-full eps are much more enjoyable, even with the cigarette commercials. Really used to like this show when growing up. Thanks for posting.
@NortonSG oh yeah, you have to have the commercials.......because if you want to experience the full blast of 1959 you have to see it in its entirety....especially if you remember it from when you were a kid watching it. The commercials really add an extra delight to it
I'd never seen this show but I was curious about it and wanted to see what it was like. Thanks for posting; an interesting and different kind of western.
The gimmick of this show was supposed to be the medallions in Sundance's hat band blinding gunfighting opponents and giving him the advantage. Thankfully, they didn't go to that well very often.
@spacepatrolman Earl Holliman starred in the first half-hour episode, "Where Is Everybody" (THE TWILIGHT ZONE aired Fridays at 10 PM ET--90 minutes after PAREE).
The true "pilot" was "The Time Element" episode of DESILU PLAYHOUSE, starring William Bendix and Martin Balsam.
@tomservo56954 the way i understand it the time element was an early rod serling drama but not the twilight zone the first regular episode was the lonely with jack warden desi was probably too drunk to get it right
@spacepatrolman "The Time Element" was the original concept, in a one-hour version. "Where Is Everybody" was the pilot for the half-hour formant, and "The Lonely" was the first episode filmed when it got the series pickup.
@tomservo56954 when rod serling won the emmy award for requiem for a heavy weight he said i would like to thank jack pal-lance when jack was on the tonight show he said its palance not pal-lance
@KCOliver1960 WHEN you buy cereal with sugar you are paying $4 a box for sugar it rots your teeth causes diabetes which rots you like cancer causes high blood pressure causes arterial sclerosis [some experts think sugar is worse for your arterys than salt ] and heart disease .

Was Kellogg's the alternate sponsor before or after Carter-Wallace (Arrid, Nair)?
