  • By now the last golden streaks of the sunset are vanishing behind the western hills. Soon the dark blanket of night shall settle over us all.

  • "Young Gregor was older than old Gregor, nobody could ever figure out how that happened" LMAO one of my favorite scenes

  • It's no bother...

  • yep. Woody's best

  • Allen is a genius. For one to combine such deep philosophical concepts such as existentialism with silly slapstick humor..... hysterical jokes married with morose Ingmar Bergman inflections....just masterful. One of the greatest film makers of all time, imho.

  • I haven't laughed this much in a long time. I had to go out and get the DVD. This is a classic

  • The first accordion dates to 1822 built by Christian Frederich Ludwig Buchmann. Given that this movie takes place during Napoleon's invasion of Russia in 1812, there could not have been a gathering with an accordion.

  • young gregor looks a little bit like the pope..

  • woody allen's personal favorite film.

  • "Money!— well money.." one of the best tones his voice uses

  • Definitivamente LA MEJOR PELICULA de Woody Allen!

  • Oh to find a woman with which to have a Allen-Keaton style conversation.

  • @TomMSTie1138 You mean pointless faux intellectual circles? You can find them anywhere.

  • @pretorious700 Ah-ha, but to find one who KNOWS she's a faux intellectual, that's the trick. :)

  • @TomMSTie1138 I'm a faux intellectual. ;)

  • @palmyrajo :)

  • BEAUTIFUL MOVIE!

  • It was over 24 months ago, but wasn't there a planet found that was reported to contain possibly liquid underneath miles of layered ice?

  • @Khultan

Yes there is one. Europa, one of Jupiters moons. But they are still not sure if there is any liquid unter the ice.

  • @Morukan1 I remember it's a planet called Gliese 581 g.

  • For years I thought he was an Italian widow.

  • Cheers up, for Woody

  • I LOVE the beginning scene with Woody Allen talking about his family! My favorite quotes are:

Dimitri Pietrovich! I would like to buy your land!

This land is not for sale! Some day, I hope to build on it!

He was an idiot, but I loved him.

    AND

Of course, there was Old Gregor and his son, Young Gregor. Oddly enough, Young Gregor's son was older than Old Gregor. Nobody could figure out how that happened.

  • There are more cracking visual and verbal gags in this first 10:01 than most comedy films have in 90 mins. Genius.

  • lol is he suppose to be a russian jew?

  • this movie is so frickin genius!

  • could someone tell me whats the song in the beginning?? thx

  • @NegusNegest Prokofiev - Lieutenant Kije: Troika

  • @machoTit Thank You!

  • @NegusNegest It's "Troika" from the Lieutenant Kije Suite by Sergei Prokofieff. Most of the score in the movie in fact comes from Lieutenant Kije.

  • @mrleedra Thank you.

  • @NegusNegest At the beginning it starts with "Alexander Nevsky", not the score of the film of Eisenstein but from the Cantata op.78, I think("The Crusaders in Pskov").

4:01 is from "Scythian Suite" (Ala and Lolly) op.20. With this ballet Prokofief tried to make sth. similar as "Sacre du printemps". Allen chosed this special record because it´s played too fast, so whole is scenery remains redicoulous.

My summury: Allen is better than Eisenstein!

  • @The1976spirit Thank you.

  • Does anyone know the name of the song at 6:02 ?

  • this is one of my favourite films! love it!!!!

  • wood allen...the funniest man ever.....

  • The greatest Woody Allen movie, so that means it is the best comedy.

  • From start to finish, funny throughout, definitely his funniest movie. Others were funny, but not consistently the whole way through.

  • My favorite comedy ... inching out Annie Hall.

  • 09.01--diane keaton's cross eyed deadpan delivery cracks me up every time

  • I find Diane Keaton a tad annoying...

  • Woodie was never my favorite, but this one is absolutely idiotic...

  • @1234oldaa

That's kind of the whole point.

  • @mamasaid0

.. the effort was made to be funny and instead came out as idiotic.

  • @1234oldaa I found this the funniest ever. Humor is so subjective, remember.

  • One of the best comedy exchanges on film.

  • Wheat...

  • This is IMO the best Comedy ever. This and Bananas.

  • OH. MY. GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thankyouthankyouthankyou for posting this!! Huzzahs abound!!!

  • Haaahhaha, Woody's woeful look, priceless.

  • 8:35 - "If could just see a miracle, just one miracle, if I could see a burning bush, or the seas part, or my uncle Sascha pick up a check." LOLOLOL!!! OMG!!! LOLLL!

  • whats the song at the begining

  • The song at the begining is by Prokofiev, "Lieutenant Kije Symphonic Suite". Look it up on iTunes.

  • Funniest movie ever But if I was Russian Id probably be pissed.

  • Agreed -- best Woody Allen movie ever!

  • This is simply the best movie ever.

  • in my opinion this was allen's best film

  • This is my favorite WA film also - even now, after having seen it 100 times, I still laugh my ass off...great stuff!

  • @darkyam you never saw manathan or annie hall i see.

  • @stanleyKubrik11

Crimes and Misdemeanors was incredibly well done, too.

  • @darkyam I couldn't agree more. Probably the best comedy movie ever.

  • @darkyam I agree.Its soooo funny.

  • @darkyam Did you see Midnight in Paris? it came pretty damn close in my opinion.

  • my favorite!! thank you

  • great film

  • I LOVE this one, specially translated in Spain spanish

  • Young Woody in this film was Alfred Lutter who played Ellyn Berstyn's son in Alice Doesn't live here anymore.

  • yes ive been waiting 4 someone 2 put this up!

  • it sounds like stravinsky at 6:02

  • The Prokofiev soundtrack is amazing. Fantastic cinematography in this movie as well. And it's funny as s&^%$%!
