Considering the low light Zi8 shots I have seen around, you did very well.
I guess that if you would have lighted the scene with a Sima light, that would have been very different and....... you would have got a ticket out of the bar at the same time. :-)
Believe it or not, it was the built in one (though I have several much nicer microphones). Which just goes to show that getting close to the subject is the most important thing in getting good sound.
My Zi8 shoots 60fps in any light. It has 4 speed settings and stays locked in on that setting regardless of light. This vid would benefit from an external stereo mic. A lot of people use the sony, I bought an AT PRO24CM. It's not as sensitive as the Sony as far as gain goes but it makes up for it in HD audio. I record loud bands at the volume it starts up with, which is the 1st setting above center. That's handy because when you turn it off the gain automaticly goes back to the default setting.
This is not the best cam in low light. Were you using a tripod? In low light, you really want to optimize everything else you can. The video I got was fuzzy enough as it is. But it would have been totally unusable without a tripod. Any softness will be accentuated by the camera processor as the cam moves around. I locked it down on the tripod, and used an Apple ProRes codec, in order to keep everything as clean as possible.
Awesome footage. This really proves that this camera can do really well in poor light conditions. I have tried and compared, Sony Webbie HD, Flip Ultra HD, Samsung C10. But this one gives exceptional quality so far.. the others mentioned perform poorly compated to this one specially in low light.. I'm buying one of these soon :).
Well, it's no HD SLR, but for what it is, it's pretty impressive. And it's a form factor that you can always have with you. And the camera you have with you is always better than the much nicer camera at home.

You can hear 4 vids (so far) done with the Zi8 and an $80 AT Pro24CM at my page. The Black And White vid was filmed with Panasonic cameras.

can you confirm this is 60FPS during low light?.. b/c my zi8 shoots 720p/60fps @ only 30FPS at low light.... during daylight, i can shoot at 60FPS!

@jfkras Oh...yeah...im finding that out. Bit disappointed in the Low Light Scenario. Although its Awesome in daylight.
Apple ProRes codec? how?
I use VLC or KM PLayer to play the 720p vids. But they do have problems- lag, jerky etc...They dont play as smooth as they play on the camera... :S
Neway thanks for ur help!

Shit, the video looks pretty good; even in very low light. That's a little better than my webcam. I'm investing in the Kodak Zi8, man.
