I myself am a Christian and I personally believe in religious freedoms. I don't mind having someone that believes in something else (or an atheist) tell me their reasons for choosing their beliefs. But I absolutely hate it when they try to tell me that my religion is wrong and that I'm stupid with petty excuses such as you don't know what you can't see. That's why its called "faith" people. To believe in something you believe is true whether or not you can see it.

The problem largely revolves around the beliefs of a pretty large subset of you, that you try and encode into law to apply to everyone; i.e., gay marriage and other gay rights, teaching creationism in science classes, and so on.
