there is no question in my view that ali would not have been beaten by allcommers in his vital lost years of boxing..they took it from him because they were complete bastards...thats why they went to vietnam...thought it was a pushover...i'm so proud to be british when you see all the wannaabees in this world..america is a very young country ..with a big mouth..ali gave .e'm some back! god bless MUHAMMAD ALi.!!!!..
@trigot33 I don't claim to know any, I don't really like calling celebrities "role models" because I don't know any personally. But when people call Ali a role model saying he stood for equality, for freedom from his "oppressors" after watching adverts like this. At the end of the day he punched people for a living, and was paid ridiculous money by for doing it. I don't hate him personally, I just hate the fact he is constantly portrayed as something he wasn't, by people who don't know him.
Ali attended KKK rallys saying that Blacks and whites shouldn't mix. He refused to serve his country in Vietnam when other young men were going off to die. He believed that all white people were "Blue eyed evils".
And for years he would constantly racially abuse Joe Frazier, despite the fact that Joe gave Ali money when he was poor, and campaigned to get his boxing license back.
@steve816100 STFU u pussy. He said those things when blacks were treated like shit by the whites. So what, if he didn't go to Vietnam and kill innocent people just so America could try to rule the fucking world. Also how can Muhammad Ali racially abuse Joe Fraizer when they're both black, you dumb fucker.
"Blacks were treated like shit by the whites" so your saying that ALL white people were treating ALL black people like shit? As for the innocent Vietnamese it's worth noting that when the Viet Minh took control from france they executed thousands of "class enemies." And also about those evil Americans putting $9.3 million into a relocation program for the Catholic Vietnamese refugees fleeing North Vietnam for fear of persucution from communists.
@steve816100 And as for Ali, he regularly berrated Frazier calling him an uncle Tom ( a black man who wishes to serve white people) saying in an Interview "There are two types of slaves, Joe Frazier’s worse than you to me. … That’s what I mean when I say Uncle Tom, I mean he’s a brother, one day he might be like me, but for now he works for the enemy." He believed himself a racially superior African American. Do some research, you dumb fucker.
Muhammad Ali the greatest. But Laila rode her daddy's name her entire career. Really she was nothing like her dad, she ducked every top boxer in her era, which was like 5 fighters that all have great records...I don't blame her though, they would have destroyed her completely but she ducked every real competition in her career. Learn from daddy Laila, he fought and beat all the best fighters of the greatest boxing generation.
I believe his greatest strength was his mental toughness and attidude. But his tragic error was not coming to Malcom x's defence when he needed him the most, he could have single-handedly protected him I believe.
For nearly 50 years there have been those who idolized and those who reviled Clay/Ali. My generation loved him; in the 60's older America feared and hated him. Today the youngsters denigrate him out of ignorance. They don't understand because they weren't there, and they'll never get why we admired him so. He was a lightning rod politically and sociologically, but in his prime, cut short by the US Gov't by 3 1/2 years, he was the best heavyweight who ever lived. And he spoke for all of us.
Watching the Thriller in Manilla on T.V, all the Stienbergs, Wolfs, Hepstiens hanger on stiens, are all talking from nice houses and look real comfortable! Every black person from Ali or Joe Frazer's camp look like they are living in real poverty, someone was making money, and is wasn't any of those old brothers!!! Even Joe Frazer's place looks like shit......
I was 13 when the first Liston fight happened; listened to the fight on the radio. At the time, nobody thought anyone could survive Liston; SI ran an article listing the 3-4 guys who'd managed to go the distance with Liston; all had done so by simply running. I feel fortunate to have grown up during his prime. He's the GOAT without question. There'll never be another Ali.
@Boxingkid15 exactly!!!! and ali wud have been to clever to give tyson a chance and danced all nite im talking ali in his prime because thats all tyson fans say when he was in his prime........ makes me laugh because when ali was past his best he won the title twice lol
yeah but after his prime after the danceing was over he started to use the rope a dope witch worked i just was well as the danceing did so in my book he had 2 primes
@Boxingkid15 ALi had 1 prime,His name was cassius the gassius one!! Ali lost 5 times in the 70's,tyson of 1988 would beat alis ass.Clay is another story!
@cam123cha Styles make fights and tyson had a meltdown in his technique after 1988.But the tyson that beat holmes and spinks would probably beat ali of the 70's.Ali always had problems with awkward fast short guys and tyson would have been the toughest of that style, more so then even frazier who couldnt hit as fast and hard as the young classic tyson.
@fadethetrade i understand your comment but fraizer may not have been as fast at tyson but he applied more pressure consistantly where as tyson would explode onto you after little breaks notice you say ali of the 70s i think you could be right there but id say ali of 74 would be unbeatable he had fear for the 1st time in his life (foreman, 2nd fight with frazier) and pre ban imo is the prime ali i can't imagine anyone beating him even tyson.
@cam123cha True frazier had better stamina but tyson was soo good for a very short time and I have to pick him over any other fighter in history when he was at his best in early 1988,except young foreman and younger clay of 65ish.Thats it. I saw a japanese documentary in early january 1988 of tyson sparring with The bull Mccall and tyson made mccall QUIT with a 4 punch body shot and mccall even wore body protector.Thats the tyson that beats just about anyone.
@cam123cha That tyson of early 1988 who made oliver the bull Mccall quit, would have ko'd douglas in less then 5.Even douglas motivation and mother in heaven wouldnt have any difference!
@fadethetrade i don't no what comment your replying to i now tyson would have beat douglas if he trained properly lol i think your right about young foreman and ali, espescially foreman tyson would have feared him before the fight after cus used to tell him no pressure fighter could beat him!
@cam123cha But when I saw foreman get rattled and decked 4 times!!! against Ron Lylye, sometimes I wonder if early 1988 tyson might have beaten young george, true that damato believed no swarmer in history could beat foreman but that lyle fight comes into my mind.Tyson was a better finisher then lyle so,I dont know.....
@fadethetrade Interesting comment...but Young Tyson always avoided a 40 year old Foreman though, Tyson pretty much ducked Foreman. He knew there was no way he would beat Foreman...sometimes a style does not match up against another. Just the way it is.
@vladiator100 The way ron lyle had foreman flying all over the ring, young tyson would put him to sleep and young tyson,Im referring to post berbick to pre spinks 2 yr period. He watched foreman with damato numerous occasions. He would be prepared for the foreman style of shoving and throwing the left jab and right hand and uppercut.Thats all there was to foreman. The problem was he hit so hard BUT tyson walked thru every left uppercut smach by ruddock for 18 rounds.
@cam123cha Interestingly,if you watch the douglas/tyson fight again, analyze the 3rd,4th and 5th rounds.Douglas could have been easily swarmed by a young 1988 tyson in those rounds and then later I read a 2003 article with kevin rooney and he said he would have tyson ko douglas in those rounds or else rooney would throw the towel in making tyson quit if he didnt get going and blast that overrated douglas out of there.Tyson should have beaten douglas alot like holyfield beat douglas.3 rounds.
Foreman was depressed in the lyle fight though and lyle and tyson fight completely differently it doesn;t matter about who's a better finnisher the peek-a-boo style as great for slippng past jabs and dodging hooks but foremans uppercut on the inside was his hardest punch watch him make dents in the heavy bag on youtube, which is why poor frazier below 6 foot kept hitting it even witha chin like fraziers he's going down.
@403766 The slick tyson who beat bonecrusher smith for 12 rounds without getting hit with one punch until the lsat 15 sconds of the fight. That tyson might have had the strategy created with rooney and steve lott. These wern't stupid people. They were scientific trainers.Tyson might have lacked the courage when hurt but frazier lasted 6 rounds in their rematch , he held off the same foreman for 6 rounds, tyson could have also in his short reign, slick defensive first posture days of 87,early 88.
@fadethetrade wouldnt happen tyson never fought with fear when he won and when he new the odds were against him he bottled it so he probs would of had to much respect almost to go all out on foreman but we will never no
@cam123cha he did,he told larry merchant that if a fighter isnt in fear, hes lying. The key is to channel that fear towards the opponent.Tyson would have to go right after foreman as he did bruno in 1989.I dont see foreman defensively blocking or slipping tyson bombs .Tyson ,had he been with rooney, they would train diligently to watch for the foreman shove and uppercut.Foreman was a predictable figher with short guys,he jabbed, shoved and threw the uppercut, tyson would have been ready for that.
@fadethetrade like i said wel never no but i dont believ he really had fear yes he had butterflies etc but deep down he usually new hed win ali vs foreman ali had real fear the same as buster vs tyson wel never no but itd be a great fight id go for foreman simply because cus said no fighter of tysons style could beat him and he new more about boxing then me plus he trained tyson
@cam123cha The best version of Mike Tyson which is the 80s one ducked 40+ year old Foreman. He knew there was no way he could beat Foreman let alone a PRIME Foreman.
@vladiator100 THe 86-88 tyson never ducked foreman.Foreman didnt make his comeback until late 87 and then he spoke out for a match against tyson as late as 1990 but tyson was already defused from his 3 yr championship stint at the damato camp.Tyson was never the same after the holmes fight because thats when he befriended King and married Givens and his mind was twisted and he ddint train properly already. The spinks fight didnt count, tyson could beat him at 18 yrs old.TYsons best was 87-88
@fadethetrade He still ducked him either way in his prime. I understand where you're coming from but there are too many excuses for Tyson. He could have fought Foreman during many occasions, even when Foreman looked for Tyson, Tyson ducked. But I don't blame Tyson for not being the same in the 90s but he only has himself to blame, he lost the heart, you know what im saying? It happens to the best I guess.
@fadethetrade Look at how tyson decapitated Biggs and Holmes in that short period.Tyson was on fire with everything and was fighting at such a high level,he needed a good fight with a holyfield or lewis or ali to bring out the best in him at that time.it would have been a wonderful fight. Most people remembered the bad tyson ,a head hunter who abandoned body combinations and tyson haters think this was still a prime tyson.IDIOTS!
@fadethetrade We'll never know about that fight with the Ali of the 70's, but I can tell you that nobody could have beaten the Ali of 1965-1967 before he was exiled. Nobody. Ever.
@iamtman1 I'd say from 64/67. Greatest heavyweight of all time and we never saw him at his true peak which would have been during the years he fought the government....sad...if he had been allowed to box during those 3 years he most likely would not have lost to Frazier in the first fight. He would have fought him earlier during those peak years we never saw him have. imagine his record it could have been something like 70-3
O mais inteligente de todos boxers, o mais brilhante, o mais politizado. Ele e Mandela se igualam em direitos humanos. No boxe o maior atleta de todos os tempos. Nunca haverá outro igual.
he was extremly fast in his prime 64-67 (with power-speed-passion)!
As they took him his licenes 67-70, his was not trained enough, was a hard time for ali. but after 71, he was a more inteligent Boxer. And he broke the rule in boxing "They never come back" several times, although he had Parkinson problems! ALI is THE GREATEST!
The greatest champion i'd ever seen! And a good man to!and really i'm a woman, but waaaaaaaaah! what a real sport!Take example and hope the futur finds young people to trained like that , in all respect of sports!

Ali is easily the fastest heavy weight of all time....but saying hes faster than Sugar ray is a little absurd, sorry but it's true. They were both great for different reasons!
ali was like a coiled spring waiting to unleash...and when he did unleash no one could stop him...he picked the time and the place...and came out throwing punches...and landed them...
Ali is the gayest fighter that ever lived & the most over-hyped, notice how he holds a lot in most of his fights also, & always on the backfoot, tyson at his best would have ate this pansy ballet boy up, also rocky marciano would have ate joe frazier up for breaskfast ( ali lunch ) frazier had one punch his left hook, & a glass jaw ( foreman fight ) marciano was the best conditioned heavy of all time, he had a left hook, uppercut & a right hand from hell, & the punches came from all angles.
Muhammad Ali was a heavyweight and he made Sugar Ray look slow as hell! Ali was the fastest ever, no doubt in his absolute prime there could never have been fighter who could beat him.
You obviously have NO IDEA. Tyson is faster? Is that some kind of joke? Tyson's was a power fighter he wasnt fast at all in comparison to Ali. Ali would cane his ass anyway. Go home you part time boxing fan.
lol ur wrong tyson was probably faster , body movement --- ali had fast hands thats the diff. tyson had more power but wasnt as brainy as ali... think u should do some researsh u spastic lol.
yeah true but tyson put alot behind his punches and was incredibley quick.. obv ali had faster hands but who knows what the outcome would be... i say ali winner but who knows !!
yea foreman beat frazier badly but frazier whooped ali in their first match. plus if things had just been slightly different, frazier would have won the third fight. ali himself admitted that he wouldn't have come out for round 15, that he was done and told his trainer to cut off his gloves. before that news got to the referee, frazier's corner threw in the towel against frazier's wishes. also, ali did not whoop foreman's anything. yes it was a nice KO but he took a six round BEATING to get it.
Ali was not ready to quit vs Frazier. That's a myth. Frazier had just taken a severe beating 3 consec rounds. He told his corner twice "i can't see", "i can't see". That is quitting. Not Ali. Ali was also way ahead in the scoring in Manila going into the last rd. Futch (Frazier's trainer) saved his life by stopping it.
kopalniaguwna...u seem to be a shitty person just like ur shitty name...drop dead mother fucker...u are a fucking poor prick...don.t u ever say that about Muhammad Ali...u ignorant FUCK!
@PROFISKATER1990 He is a Muslim, He is brave, He is Black, He is a boxer, He is a poet, He is Pretty, He is a singer, He is a beast, He is a baby, He can float, and can sting, He can rhyme, & He is the cytological warrior He has to be the greatest of all times!
thats wat i hate evry fight ali lost is said he was past his peak so this great heavywieght was just 3 years good and the rest past his peak fuck that a great heaveywiehgt is longer great then 3 years
he was great longer than 3yrs (ask Foreman). But all great fighters have a peak. And don't forget Ali's peak was interrupted by his 31/2 year layoff from 25-28 yrs old. He was 30-0 with 24 ko's at that time. The 1966 Ali was far better than the 1976 Ali for ex. Listen we will never agree that's ok. Free country. Let's agree to disagree without rancor.
lol based on 2 fights u say he coud not fight boxers plz dude use ur brain if u have 1 and norton shoud have won the 3 fights ali just got presents 2 liston fight cmon bribe a volonte and like u say about douglas that night same with 71 frazier homie
I thought he beat Norton in both 2nd/3d fights. Close! Anyway that Ali was past his peak . Liston wasn't bribed that's "grassy Knoll" bullshit. Liston did fall from a punch in 2. I do believe he stayed down on purpose though. That's not fixed. That's a bully quitting disgracefully. And he (Liston) knew he would lose anyway. I disagree with your Douglass-Frazier71 comp. Frazier had a great career. Douglass didn't. But he had great talent ev knew it. That night he put it together and was brilliant
ali lost to norton bad and got 2 wins over him that where no wins same with frazier cuz we already had that discusion he beat an old liston and got bribed in the secon win and he defeated a young foreman who had a to big ego then and never gavre him a remactch and young woud have been killd second foreman fight he just got lucky like buster got lucky vs tyson and ali knew he coud not win second time vs foreman
Your comments are ridiculous. Ali just like J. Young proved Foreman couldn't fight "boxers" case closed. He beat Norton twice (close but deserved). And Douglas that night beats Tyson every day of the week. He was inspired. Liston couldn't beat Ali. Bad matchup for him. Even blinded by (dirty Liston corner) Ali was able to avoid his punches. Ali 1964-67 was the Greatest Heavyweight that Ever lived.
and i call them as i see them i just think ali gets to mtch credit and is overated in sum stuf he maybe the greatest boxer but he is not the greatest heavyweight juys like joe louis get that title and based on record i rate foreman higher then ali the thing is the bigh fight that made ali great i dunnow they are debatable and thats is not great stuf the greatest shoud have beaten evrybody like foreman beat frazier that there is no discusion after u know who is the champ
The greatest (ALI) did beat everyone in his prime. And when he came back and wasn't as good as his prime still became champ again. As far as him not blasting Frazier out of the ring like Foreman did, it's simple. Styles make fights. Frazier could have fought Foreman 10 times and lost the same way. 2 sluggers with similar style, but one much bigger/stronger will win everytime. Foreman would kill anyone(including Tyson) who stood in front of him. Ali (and later J Young) showed boxers owned George.
I don't think he (Ali) is God. He made plenty of mistakes away from the ring as well as staying in it too long past his prime in it. I just think (as all experts do in any rating ever done) that he was better than Frazier. And unlike you i don't hate or dislike Frazier(like you Ali). I think Frazier was great. I think he was also a good guy who was victimized by Ali's taunting needlessly so. But as fighters i call them as i see them.
lol trilla in manila lol u mean the ali who askd to cut his gloves up and quit or the ali who fainted 1few sec after the 14 round? frazier woud have won the fight if it was not for that cut he coud go on thats the guy frazier was frazier gave ali parkinson in that fight if u ask me
The cut glove bs was a myth. Never happened. That is a story that just came out to try and discredit Ali's great win. Ali "never" fainted either. More bs. Don Dunphy interviewed him right after(seconds later), and Ali told him he hated being swarmed by people right after a fight, so he started after the Foreman fight to lie down in mid ring and have his corner people circle around him and give him space. Obv you fell for that hit peace on HBO by Frazier's bitter friend. Ali was way ahead. Ali#1
Not an excuse. And by the way Frazier's ass was far more whipped in Manila than Ali's was in fight 1. Again "noone" in the fight world on any all-time great list rates Frazier ahead of Ali. Joe was great;Ali was the greatest.
the the greatest left hook ever trown in boxing the 71 that FLOORED ali woud have troubled the young ali a lot more that ali woud not be able to handel that the ali with u speak of never foughtt a guy like the 71 frazier so he was able to fight the way he dit ali maybe the greatest boxer but by god he is not the greatest heavywiight
The 71 Frazier left hook was great but it wouldn't have hit Ali in his prime. In fact the fight would have been stopped or Ali would have won a rather wide margin decision against Frazier. Ali was so accurate back in his prime, and Frazier was hit a'lot. The great boxer beats the great slugger almost always. Espec when the boxer has a great chin. 67 Ali takes 71 Frazier. In fact 72 Ali with a few more tuneups beats 71 Frazier. Rust more than anything beat Ali that night.
ali never fought the kind of fighter frazier was in his prime and never got the hits frazier coud give in his prime so min my opinion ali woud lose against the 71 evry thime
And Frazier never in his prime fought anyone remotely close to the Ali that held the title 1964-67. If he had Frazier's face in Manila would have looked good compared to the mess it would have looked like had a prime Ali used it for target practice.
ali in his prime never came against a fikghter like frazier the frazier from the first fight who kickt the shit out of ali and his bigh mout that frazier can defeat any version of ali
Ali in his prime absolutely devastates Frazier. Even the 1971 Ali put Frazier in the hospital for 3 weeks. Again, even Joe's trainer knew his fighter couldn't handle Ali back in his prime. Remember Frazier almost lost to Bonavena back then . Ali would have used Joe's head as a speed bag in his prime.
ali in his prime woud not be able to hande the 71 frazier he already went down from shots from cooper and stuf i dont believe his chin was 100% in wat u peopl ecal his prime so 71 frazier woud handel ali his first asswooping again
Ali had a better chin than Frazier. The 1st Cooper fight you bring up when he was a kid. How about the 2nd Cooper fight 3 yrs later. Ali took the best punch other than Chuvalo in the history of boxing. But at his peak (1st reign as champ) noone could hit him because he had refined his defensive skill to go along with the fastest reflexes in heavyweight history. There is not 1 expert anywere that would rate Frazier ahead of Ali all time. Ring mag has Ali 1. Frazier is 9 or 10 i believe.
Ali in his prime was undefeated. Nothing after the 31/2 year layoff was anywere near his prime. Ali in the 1970's was still good enough to beat Frazier 2 of 3 times, and KO Foreman. But the mid 1960's Ali was much better. Frazier would have had no chance at all. His own trainer at the time Yancey Durham) said in 1967 "we will fight Ali" when he (Ali) loses a step in speed. Even his trainer knew Frazier couldn't win.
saying ali was not in shape is uter bulshit he lost to a better fighter plain and simple he never stopt training and he beat bonavera and quary 2 top fighter so saying he is not in shape is uter bulshit frazier beat him fait he was just alot better that night even prime ali coud not win from that frazier
u know majic johnson said no other athelete has made more money than mj not only because of his basketball career but also the sale of his merchandise and endorsement of certain products but i believe if ali would have came along in this generation he would have given micheal a hell of a run in that category.
Ali was the greatest champ ever! Not because he was just the best fighter, which he was, but because of his whole persona. Todays champs are boring they never say anything new, same old shit every time
Ali came back after 2 and half yearsto fight frasier , so he wasnt in shape for the 1st fight, everyone knows that. What happened to frasier in the second fight. Ali the greatest, Ali fopught people stronger than him, never ducked a chalenge. Marciano was a calazaghe, trying to maintain his O
listen man marciano wasn't the best ever and neither was ali,But marciano seems to always get greatly underestimated,Marciano had arguably the best punching power ever and he was a relentless fighter who never took a step back and had an overlooked defense, honestly if they wre to fight i would say marciano would win but even with that said i say ali was a better boxer. But Ray Robinson is the greatest of all time and its not even close
Ali would win easy...Marciano wouldnt have a chance to be honest.Marciano dont ahve the speed....he probably wouldnt even hit Ali. And Foreman hit alot harder then Marciano.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Foreman dindnt have the stamina that marciano had and ali in my mind lost 2 fights to frazier so wat makes u think it woldn't even be a fight? fraziers style was very similar to marciano and ali seemed to have trouble with those type of fighters,Marciano i think would slow ali down and would knock him out in the 13-15 rounds
Marciano was alot slower then Fraizer.....And ali was better then Fraizer...the only reason Fraizer didnt got KO is that Ali wasnt in good shape vs Fraizer anytime and didnt take all fights so serious.. Ali in his prime would take Marciano in his prime easy...i know that.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
lol yea ali dindnt take frazier serious, gimmie a fucking break,u do know that they actually ran simulations of marciano vs ali with there style, power, speed, etc and marciano came out the victor the majority of the simulations,i know that still does mean he would of won but i still say marciano would have won,ali is great marciano is great and we both have opinions so i'll lve it at that.
Haha yes and that simulation was really good...it made Ali 1000 times slower then he really is in that fucking simulation. And believe what you want but its just crazy to believe that Marciano would have a chance... Ali won over much better boxers then Marciano. And Marciano even had problems to hit boxers that was 100 times slower then Ali....but keep dreaming if you want.
I love that photo at 6:16 - Muhammad Ali, Sugar Ray Robinson and Joe Louis, legends aye. 331 professional fights between them with only 27 losses. Also take into account that all 3 of them continued in boxing far longer then they should have. 331 - 27, quite fucking impressive. Legends.
So Sven Ottke is one of the greatest boxers ever? And Joe Calzaghe? Marciano fought bums. He fought 4 good boxers, but each and every one was well past their prime. Ali was a draft dodger. Why would he want to risk his life for a country that treats him like a second class citizen. He won a gold medal for America in the olympics, when he came back home he still couldn't be served in the restuarants. An American Olympian who cannot eat publically in his own country. Why go and die for that?
Thnx for posting Roman - I chose Ali over LIston when I was a little boy because he was the underdog and was different...he said he was the Greatest and he proved it.. I was 10yrs old when Frazier knocked him down - pains me everytime I see it - but the beauty of the punch he cocks but never throws as Foreman falls is just pefection....
Ali was a COWARD. Dont give that fag any credit. He used that Muslim crap as an excuse not to fight in the war. He says his so-called new religion prohibits him from fighting.WTF he made all his money fighting. He hates the white man, why didn't he go back to Africa? That ungrateful, coward. USA gave him so much then he turns around and doesn't want to fight in the war, then talks crap about whites. He's a coward, racist! Look at his shaking, stuttering ass now, he deserves what he got. KARMA!
when you really study Ali, you just cant get another result than that he was the greatest...skill,will,athletic ability etc...every treat a boxer needs combined...great
Agreed. A look at Ali's stats (punches thrown vs. punches landed) shows an unusually high percentage compared to He was a very efficient fighter. I really believe that he had the ability to process the action in the ring (sense-wise...sight, sound..etc) on a much higher level than his opponents.
..now. Therefore its logical to assume that the boxers coming from that population were tougher and it was harder to be a world champ. Everyone accepts that the fight scene was more vibrant 25 years ago than now, esp the heavies. The point I'm getting to is that while it might appear on the surface that Ali would beat Louis, Dempsey et al the reality I think would be different, although Ali is the one man I of the last 40 years I'd give a chance against any of those earlier top guys.
The quote at the starrt about internal motivation is so true. As for who the greatest is, several years ago I decided to suspend judgement. Boxing is a very interactive sport, meaning you only look as good as your opponent allows. It's also of course physically demanding, so strength and basic stamina count. You can have great technical ability but against, eg., a superstrong opponent with less you can be worn down. Now 60 yrs ago far more people boxed and men were generally alot tougher than..
There are some facts which put Ali in front of everybody and makes him the greatest - 1) his atlethic ability topped even the prime tyson. Joe Louis NEVER had such a physical ability as Ali- FACT 2) he had courage bigger then most of them 3) his chin withstood the hardest hitters - never KOed. 4) perfect punches - best left jab, great one to 5) unique FOOTWORK - never topped or repeated 6) mental ability 7) will...this combination made him really the top man. no joe louis.
ali is the greatest i agree 100% also he had an awesome heart and determination the only man i think who equals him for heart is his rival joe frazier
1: Ali 2: Sugar ray robinson 3: Joe Louis 4: Sugar ray leonard 5: George Foreman 6: Joe Frazier 7: Mike Tyson 8: Rocky Marciano 9: Sonny Liston 10: Roberto Duran 11: Ken Norton 12: Jose Torres 13: Oscar De La Hoya 14: Floyd Patterson 15: Marvin Hagler
there is no question in my view that ali would not have been beaten by allcommers in his vital lost years of boxing..they took it from him because they were complete bastards...thats why they went to vietnam...thought it was a pushover...i'm so proud to be british when you see all the wannaabees in this world..america is a very young country ..with a big mouth..ali gave .e'm some back! god bless MUHAMMAD ALi.!!!!..

@username7212345 Intelligent input :)
"Blacks were treated like shit by the whites" so your saying that ALL white people were treating ALL black people like shit? As for the innocent Vietnamese it's worth noting that when the Viet Minh took control from france they executed thousands of "class enemies." And also about those evil Americans putting $9.3 million into a relocation program for the Catholic Vietnamese refugees fleeing North Vietnam for fear of persucution from communists.
steve816100 6 months ago

Boxingkid15 1 year ago
@Boxingkid15 exactly!!!! and ali wud have been to clever to give tyson a chance and danced all nite im talking ali in his prime because thats all tyson fans say when he was in his prime........ makes me laugh because when ali was past his best he won the title twice lol
cam123cha 1 year ago
yeah but after his prime after the danceing was over he started to use the rope a dope witch worked i just was well as the danceing did so in my book he had 2 primes
Boxingkid15 1 year ago
@Boxingkid15 ALi had 1 prime,His name was cassius the gassius one!! Ali lost 5 times in the 70's,tyson of 1988 would beat alis ass.Clay is another story!
fadethetrade 1 year ago
@cam123cha Styles make fights and tyson had a meltdown in his technique after 1988.But the tyson that beat holmes and spinks would probably beat ali of the 70's.Ali always had problems with awkward fast short guys and tyson would have been the toughest of that style, more so then even frazier who couldnt hit as fast and hard as the young classic tyson.
fadethetrade 1 year ago
@fadethetrade i understand your comment but fraizer may not have been as fast at tyson but he applied more pressure consistantly where as tyson would explode onto you after little breaks notice you say ali of the 70s i think you could be right there but id say ali of 74 would be unbeatable he had fear for the 1st time in his life (foreman, 2nd fight with frazier) and pre ban imo is the prime ali i can't imagine anyone beating him even tyson.
cam123cha 1 year ago
@cam123cha True frazier had better stamina but tyson was soo good for a very short time and I have to pick him over any other fighter in history when he was at his best in early 1988,except young foreman and younger clay of 65ish.Thats it. I saw a japanese documentary in early january 1988 of tyson sparring with The bull Mccall and tyson made mccall QUIT with a 4 punch body shot and mccall even wore body protector.Thats the tyson that beats just about anyone.
fadethetrade 1 year ago
@cam123cha That tyson of early 1988 who made oliver the bull Mccall quit, would have ko'd douglas in less then 5.Even douglas motivation and mother in heaven wouldnt have any difference!
fadethetrade 1 year ago
@fadethetrade i don't no what comment your replying to i now tyson would have beat douglas if he trained properly lol i think your right about young foreman and ali, espescially foreman tyson would have feared him before the fight after cus used to tell him no pressure fighter could beat him!
cam123cha 1 year ago
@cam123cha But when I saw foreman get rattled and decked 4 times!!! against Ron Lylye, sometimes I wonder if early 1988 tyson might have beaten young george, true that damato believed no swarmer in history could beat foreman but that lyle fight comes into my mind.Tyson was a better finisher then lyle so,I dont know.....
fadethetrade 1 year ago
@fadethetrade Interesting comment...but Young Tyson always avoided a 40 year old Foreman though, Tyson pretty much ducked Foreman. He knew there was no way he would beat Foreman...sometimes a style does not match up against another. Just the way it is.
vladiator100 9 months ago
@vladiator100 The way ron lyle had foreman flying all over the ring, young tyson would put him to sleep and young tyson,Im referring to post berbick to pre spinks 2 yr period. He watched foreman with damato numerous occasions. He would be prepared for the foreman style of shoving and throwing the left jab and right hand and uppercut.Thats all there was to foreman. The problem was he hit so hard BUT tyson walked thru every left uppercut smach by ruddock for 18 rounds.
fadethetrade 9 months ago
@cam123cha Interestingly,if you watch the douglas/tyson fight again, analyze the 3rd,4th and 5th rounds.Douglas could have been easily swarmed by a young 1988 tyson in those rounds and then later I read a 2003 article with kevin rooney and he said he would have tyson ko douglas in those rounds or else rooney would throw the towel in making tyson quit if he didnt get going and blast that overrated douglas out of there.Tyson should have beaten douglas alot like holyfield beat douglas.3 rounds.
fadethetrade 1 year ago
@fadethetrade
403766 1 year ago
@403766 The slick tyson who beat bonecrusher smith for 12 rounds without getting hit with one punch until the lsat 15 sconds of the fight. That tyson might have had the strategy created with rooney and steve lott. These wern't stupid people. They were scientific trainers.Tyson might have lacked the courage when hurt but frazier lasted 6 rounds in their rematch , he held off the same foreman for 6 rounds, tyson could have also in his short reign, slick defensive first posture days of 87,early 88.
fadethetrade 1 year ago
@cam123cha In 1988, TYsons fear of foreman might have catipulted him right after george and finish him in 2 rounds.ever think of that??
fadethetrade 1 year ago
@fadethetrade wouldnt happen tyson never fought with fear when he won and when he new the odds were against him he bottled it so he probs would of had to much respect almost to go all out on foreman but we will never no
cam123cha 1 year ago
@cam123cha he did,he told larry merchant that if a fighter isnt in fear, hes lying. The key is to channel that fear towards the opponent.Tyson would have to go right after foreman as he did bruno in 1989.I dont see foreman defensively blocking or slipping tyson bombs .Tyson ,had he been with rooney, they would train diligently to watch for the foreman shove and uppercut.Foreman was a predictable figher with short guys,he jabbed, shoved and threw the uppercut, tyson would have been ready for that.
fadethetrade 1 year ago
@fadethetrade like i said wel never no but i dont believ he really had fear yes he had butterflies etc but deep down he usually new hed win ali vs foreman ali had real fear the same as buster vs tyson wel never no but itd be a great fight id go for foreman simply because cus said no fighter of tysons style could beat him and he new more about boxing then me plus he trained tyson
cam123cha 1 year ago
@cam123cha The best version of Mike Tyson which is the 80s one ducked 40+ year old Foreman. He knew there was no way he could beat Foreman let alone a PRIME Foreman.
vladiator100 9 months ago
@vladiator100 THe 86-88 tyson never ducked foreman.Foreman didnt make his comeback until late 87 and then he spoke out for a match against tyson as late as 1990 but tyson was already defused from his 3 yr championship stint at the damato camp.Tyson was never the same after the holmes fight because thats when he befriended King and married Givens and his mind was twisted and he ddint train properly already. The spinks fight didnt count, tyson could beat him at 18 yrs old.TYsons best was 87-88
fadethetrade 9 months ago
@fadethetrade He still ducked him either way in his prime. I understand where you're coming from but there are too many excuses for Tyson. He could have fought Foreman during many occasions, even when Foreman looked for Tyson, Tyson ducked. But I don't blame Tyson for not being the same in the 90s but he only has himself to blame, he lost the heart, you know what im saying? It happens to the best I guess.
vladiator100 9 months ago
@fadethetrade Look at how tyson decapitated Biggs and Holmes in that short period.Tyson was on fire with everything and was fighting at such a high level,he needed a good fight with a holyfield or lewis or ali to bring out the best in him at that time.it would have been a wonderful fight. Most people remembered the bad tyson ,a head hunter who abandoned body combinations and tyson haters think this was still a prime tyson.IDIOTS!
fadethetrade 1 year ago
@fadethetrade We'll never know about that fight with the Ali of the 70's, but I can tell you that nobody could have beaten the Ali of 1965-1967 before he was exiled. Nobody. Ever.
buckfan1969 1 year ago
@buckfan1969 You're right! Ali of 1965-67 is the greatest heavyweight ever!
iamtman1 1 year ago
@iamtman1 I'd say from 64/67. Greatest heavyweight of all time and we never saw him at his true peak which would have been during the years he fought the government....sad...if he had been allowed to box during those 3 years he most likely would not have lost to Frazier in the first fight. He would have fought him earlier during those peak years we never saw him have. imagine his record it could have been something like 70-3

Ali is the gayest fighter that ever lived & the most over-hyped, notice how he holds a lot in most of his fights also, & always on the backfoot, tyson at his best would have ate this pansy ballet boy up, also rocky marciano would have ate joe frazier up for breaskfast ( ali lunch ) frazier had one punch his left hook, & a glass jaw ( foreman fight ) marciano was the best conditioned heavy of all time, he had a left hook, uppercut & a right hand from hell, & the punches came from all angles.

yea foreman beat frazier badly but frazier whooped ali in their first match. plus if things had just been slightly different, frazier would have won the third fight. ali himself admitted that he wouldn't have come out for round 15, that he was done and told his trainer to cut off his gloves. before that news got to the referee, frazier's corner threw in the towel against frazier's wishes. also, ali did not whoop foreman's anything. yes it was a nice KO but he took a six round BEATING to get it.
thwizzik 2 years ago
Ali was not ready to quit vs Frazier. That's a myth. Frazier had just taken a severe beating 3 consec rounds. He told his corner twice "i can't see", "i can't see". That is quitting. Not Ali. Ali was also way ahead in the scoring in Manila going into the last rd. Futch (Frazier's trainer) saved his life by stopping it.

Muhammad Ali was so great, it can only be explained like this:
Imagine being so great that you could whoop someone's ass, and now all of a sudden, they're considered great too...
And whoever says he can't hit hard, think of it like this...
Imagine someone throws a 'nerf' football into your face at a 1000 yards per second...

he was great longer than 3yrs (ask Foreman). Let's agree to disagree without rancor.

strontvinger2001 2 years ago
I thought he beat Norton in both 2nd/3d fights. Close! Anyway that Ali was past his peak . Liston wasn't bribed that's "grassy Knoll" bullshit. Liston did fall from a punch in 2. I do believe he stayed down on purpose though. That's not fixed. That's a bully quitting disgracefully. And he (Liston) knew he would lose anyway. I disagree with your Douglass-Frazier71 comp. Frazier had a great career. Douglass didn't. But he had great talent ev knew it. That night he put it together and was brilliant

strontvinger2001 2 years ago
Your comments are ridiculous. Ali just like J. Young proved Foreman couldn't fight "boxers" case closed. He beat Norton twice (close but deserved). And Douglas that night beats Tyson every day of the week. He was inspired. Liston couldn't beat Ali. Bad matchup for him. Even blinded by (dirty Liston corner) Ali was able to avoid his punches. Ali 1964-67 was the Greatest Heavyweight that Ever lived.
iamtman1 2 years ago
and i call them as i see them i just think ali gets to mtch credit and is overated in sum stuf he maybe the greatest boxer but he is not the greatest heavyweight juys like joe louis get that title and based on record i rate foreman higher then ali the thing is the bigh fight that made ali great i dunnow they are debatable and thats is not great stuf the greatest shoud have beaten evrybody like foreman beat frazier that there is no discusion after u know who is the champ
strontvinger2001 2 years ago
The greatest (ALI) did beat everyone in his prime. And when he came back and wasn't as good as his prime still became champ again. As far as him not blasting Frazier out of the ring like Foreman did, it's simple. Styles make fights. Frazier could have fought Foreman 10 times and lost the same way. 2 sluggers with similar style, but one much bigger/stronger will win everytime. Foreman would kill anyone(including Tyson) who stood in front of him. Ali (and later J Young) showed boxers owned George.
iamtman1 2 years ago
same goes for u ur so far up ali's ass u think he is god frazier > ali
strontvinger2001 2 years ago
I don't think he (Ali) is God. He made plenty of mistakes away from the ring as well as staying in it too long past his prime in it. I just think (as all experts do in any rating ever done) that he was better than Frazier. And unlike you i don't hate or dislike Frazier(like you Ali). I think Frazier was great. I think he was also a good guy who was victimized by Ali's taunting needlessly so. But as fighters i call them as i see them.
iamtman1 2 years ago
lol trilla in manila lol u mean the ali who askd to cut his gloves up and quit or the ali who fainted 1few sec after the 14 round? frazier woud have won the fight if it was not for that cut he coud go on thats the guy frazier was frazier gave ali parkinson in that fight if u ask me
strontvinger2001 2 years ago
The cut glove bs was a myth. Never happened. That is a story that just came out to try and discredit Ali's great win. Ali "never" fainted either. More bs. Don Dunphy interviewed him right after(seconds later), and Ali told him he hated being swarmed by people right after a fight, so he started after the Foreman fight to lie down in mid ring and have his corner people circle around him and give him space. Obv you fell for that hit peace on HBO by Frazier's bitter friend. Ali was way ahead. Ali#1
iamtman1 2 years ago
lol realy dont use the the lame rust excuse ali was in shape for frazier in 71 and got his ass served to him by a greater fighter
strontvinger2001 2 years ago
Not an excuse. And by the way Frazier's ass was far more whipped in Manila than Ali's was in fight 1. Again "noone" in the fight world on any all-time great list rates Frazier ahead of Ali. Joe was great;Ali was the greatest.

strontvinger2001 2 years ago
The 71 Frazier left hook was great but it wouldn't have hit Ali in his prime. In fact the fight would have been stopped or Ali would have won a rather wide margin decision against Frazier. Ali was so accurate back in his prime, and Frazier was hit a'lot. The great boxer beats the great slugger almost always. Espec when the boxer has a great chin. 67 Ali takes 71 Frazier. In fact 72 Ali with a few more tuneups beats 71 Frazier. Rust more than anything beat Ali that night.
iamtman1 2 years ago
ali never fought the kind of fighter frazier was in his prime and never got the hits frazier coud give in his prime so min my opinion ali woud lose against the 71 evry thime
strontvinger2001 2 years ago
And Frazier never in his prime fought anyone remotely close to the Ali that held the title 1964-67. If he had Frazier's face in Manila would have looked good compared to the mess it would have looked like had a prime Ali used it for target practice.
iamtman1 2 years ago
ali in his prime never came against a fikghter like frazier the frazier from the first fight who kickt the shit out of ali and his bigh mout that frazier can defeat any version of ali
strontvinger2001 2 years ago
Ali in his prime absolutely devastates Frazier. Even the 1971 Ali put Frazier in the hospital for 3 weeks. Again, even Joe's trainer knew his fighter couldn't handle Ali back in his prime. Remember Frazier almost lost to Bonavena back then . Ali would have used Joe's head as a speed bag in his prime.

ali in his prime woud not be able to hande the 71 frazier he already went down from shots from cooper and stuf i dont believe his chin was 100% in wat u peopl ecal his prime so 71 frazier woud handel ali his first asswooping again
strontvinger2001 2 years ago
Ali had a better chin than Frazier. The 1st Cooper fight you bring up when he was a kid. How about the 2nd Cooper fight 3 yrs later. Ali took the best punch other than Chuvalo in the history of boxing. But at his peak (1st reign as champ) noone could hit him because he had refined his defensive skill to go along with the fastest reflexes in heavyweight history. There is not 1 expert anywere that would rate Frazier ahead of Ali all time. Ring mag has Ali 1. Frazier is 9 or 10 i believe.

ali in his prrime lost to frazier
strontvinger2001 2 years ago
Ali in his prime was undefeated. Nothing after the 31/2 year layoff was anywere near his prime. Ali in the 1970's was still good enough to beat Frazier 2 of 3 times, and KO Foreman. But the mid 1960's Ali was much better. Frazier would have had no chance at all. His own trainer at the time Yancey Durham) said in 1967 "we will fight Ali" when he (Ali) loses a step in speed. Even his trainer knew Frazier couldn't win.

saying ali was not in shape is uter bulshit he lost to a better fighter plain and simple he never stopt training and he beat bonavera and quary 2 top fighter so saying he is not in shape is uter bulshit frazier beat him fait he was just alot better that night even prime ali coud not win from that frazier
strontvinger2001 2 years ago
Ali in his prime destroys Frazier. Heck he beat him 2 of 3 even past his prime.

u know majic johnson said no other athelete has made more money than mj not only because of his basketball career but also the sale of his merchandise and endorsement of certain products but i believe if ali would have came along in this generation he would have given micheal a hell of a run in that category.

Ali was the greatest champ ever! Not because he was just the best fighter, which he was, but because of his whole persona. Todays champs are boring they never say anything new, same old shit every time
js90100 2 years ago 6
Ali came back after 2 and half yearsto fight frasier , so he wasnt in shape for the 1st fight, everyone knows that. What happened to frasier in the second fight. Ali the greatest, Ali fopught people stronger than him, never ducked a chalenge. Marciano was a calazaghe, trying to maintain his O
sac2002uk 2 years ago 3
listen man marciano wasn't the best ever and neither was ali,But marciano seems to always get greatly underestimated,Marciano had arguably the best punching power ever and he was a relentless fighter who never took a step back and had an overlooked defense, honestly if they wre to fight i would say marciano would win but even with that said i say ali was a better boxer. But Ray Robinson is the greatest of all time and its not even close
JoeBurg21 2 years ago
Ali would win easy...Marciano wouldnt have a chance to be honest.Marciano dont ahve the speed....he probably wouldnt even hit Ali. And Foreman hit alot harder then Marciano.

JoeBurg21 2 years ago
Marciano was alot slower then Fraizer.....And ali was better then Fraizer...the only reason Fraizer didnt got KO is that Ali wasnt in good shape vs Fraizer anytime and didnt take all fights so serious.. Ali in his prime would take Marciano in his prime easy...i know that.

lol yea ali dindnt take frazier serious, gimmie a fucking break,u do know that they actually ran simulations of marciano vs ali with there style, power, speed, etc and marciano came out the victor the majority of the simulations,i know that still does mean he would of won but i still say marciano would have won,ali is great marciano is great and we both have opinions so i'll lve it at that.
Ali didnt take Frazier serious haha, good joke
JoeBurg21 2 years ago
Haha yes and that simulation was really good...it made Ali 1000 times slower then he really is in that fucking simulation. And believe what you want but its just crazy to believe that Marciano would have a chance... Ali won over much better boxers then Marciano. And Marciano even had problems to hit boxers that was 100 times slower then Ali....but keep dreaming if you want.

marciano was too short ali would destroy him
boombya123 2 years ago
marciano is 85 kg.just too lean for heavyweight.how can that man have punching power of foreman or speed of ali!never!

I was 10yrs old when Frazier knocked him down - pains me everytime I see it - but the beauty of the punch he cocks but never throws as Foreman falls is just pefection....

do you see how much faster and powerful his punches were in the 1960's

Ali was a COWARD. Dont give that fag any credit. He used that Muslim crap as an excuse not to fight in the war. He says his so-called new religion prohibits him from fighting.WTF he made all his money fighting. He hates the white man, why didn't he go back to Africa? That ungrateful, coward. USA gave him so much then he turns around and doesn't want to fight in the war, then talks crap about whites. He's a coward, racist! Look at his shaking, stuttering ass now, he deserves what he got. KARMA!

when you really study Ali, you just cant get another result than that he was the greatest...skill,will,athletic ability etc...every treat a boxer needs combined...great
RomanSedlak 2 years ago
