The fact that no one was chainsawed on camera was because they felt that an off-camera chainsaw thing with screaming was more horrifying, which I found it was.

The thing that disappointed me so much was, I'm British and it was banned here & my mum, old relatives always spoke about this INSANELY horrible film... so when I got my hands on a boot legged uncut version ie. THE HOLY GRAIL it wasn't anything bad! But still, I love the film.

I agree with what you said earlier. It's weird though, because nowadays, stuff like the Final Destination series is super gory (gore porn really) but the effect is that it's very funny instead of being scary. Same with Hostel. For me at least, anyway. But then, the concept of being scared by a film is completely alien to me, apart from when i saw Alien when i was 11. That fucked me up.
