I don't care what people say about mozart being the great whatever. I can play Mozart, i can sight read Mozart. I can play alot of things really really well. I can't play Gershwin, not like Gershwin plays Gershwin. Nowhere near as fast as Gershwin plays Gershwin. And not even close to the accuracy that Gershwin plays Gershwin.
the irony of this title... he's totally off rhythm. It's like when you and a friend are singing a song acapella in the car and your friend insists to start singing the next part before the beat. He just totally skips to the next part in the song before it should happen. Try tapping along to this song and you'll find it's impossible.
@maughanzter ummmm... a metronome has rhythm... set a metronome to what you think this tempo is and there's no way it's going to stay with whatever is going on here. Don't get me wrong, I like the song.... maybe he's purposefully trying to be ironic. But this is not something you can click your fingers to or tap your foot to without it going off beat.
@urwholefamilydied let me reply like you did, so I can be condescending too: ummmm... a metronome doesn't have rhythm, it keeps the beat. Rhythm surrounds the beat. The rhythm can be on the beat, off the beat, or whatever. Syncopation is off beat, but still rhythmic. This piece is definitely off beat, but definitely rhythmic.
@urwholefamilydied There is nothing ironic about this title. Preempting the beat in his manner is known as syncopation, and syncopation is a popular device used extensively in the early 20th century solo piano style known as Ragtime. In order to pull of syncopation correctly like Gershwin, one must have a good sense of rhythm such that he or she will not lose control of the piece. If you find it impossible to tap along to it, revise your own sense of rhythm before tarnishing one of the greats.
@josiah566 My own sense of rhythm? haha.... rhythm is a naturally occurring thing in music... just like the major and minor scale is naturally pleasing.... so is being able to tap your foot at a constant interval. If someone wants to be jazzy or avant garde that's fine. But set a metronome or try to tap along to this... it definitely doesn't follow a steady tempo. Which again.. is fine. I'm just saying it's an ironic title.
First: You are a genius. The intro alone has puzzeled me a hundred times (and it still does, rhythmically as well as harmonically, I just cant stop listening to it). Started to play it today and I must say, I dont envy the neighbours.
Second: Thank you so much! Best wishes from Vienna! Please dont stop transcribing!
I think the G flat major section is supposed to be in F (I have the printed sheet music). If you look at the original video, the cameras changed and were probably recording at two different speeds.
Rhythm fries robots' circuits.

@epiplp6 Yo, to be fair though, Mozart probably could've played this perfectly with a blindfold on after only hearing it once.

@Froebs but the point is, mozart not necessarily thinking about things like this
