@fvo911 its safe against alot of ieds and if your a taliban you wouldnt wont to fire at it because it as 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, 7.62 mm general purpose machine gun and 40 mm automatic grenade launcher and really its only the top gunner wots open the rest only there head is open but thay need that to see
@HEINZUNIMOG This is a reconnaissance vehicle, which means it stands of from a distance and fires. It isn't used for town patrols, so no REAL armor from firearms are needed. Only IED's.
Besides i would rather be in that rather than a shitty little humvee when caught in an ambush. The protection is very limited and next to useless and where as you can jump out of the jackal without ease, your trapped by the humvee
@illegalimmigrantpl you would rather be in the jackal cos that really means your blinded by national pride .the jackal is shit for afghanistan .the talibans main weapon of choice is the ied .so what does the uk do they replace the snatch with another unprotected vehicle .the jackal.the driver sits directly over the front wheels ,right where a pressure plate ied goes off .the americans on the other hand rushed protected vehicles to the front and now have thousands of matv there
@marks95911 The new american trucks in service are very good, they use whats called a 'V-hull' the bottom of the vehicle is designed to funnel the blast away from the main vehicle rather than having a flat bottom. But your obviously too ignorant and stubborn to understand this because you clearly didn't read my comment:
Designed for reconnaissance and IED protection. NOT FOR CLOSE RANGE
@illegalimmigrantpl lol no your comment just doesnt make sense .the jackal has no vhull only a skid plate that people think is a vhull .it is a recon vehicle ! but why would you send a recon vehicle with no vhull into a place full of ieds .the only ied protection it has is blast seats ,which are a joke
@marks95911 it is V shaped hull and its not meant for road driving its primary purpose is to go to terrain where no one can and since ieds are primaryly placed on roads(which the jackal doesnt drive on) the vehicles are revatily safe
@williamED15 lol listen it has no vhull ,do a little research first .it has a flat bottom with some belly armour added .the sid plate on the front makes it look like vhull but it unfortunatly is not ..its primary purpose as you say is for off road ,the thoery being you can drive around ieds etc .thge problkem they have found is two fold .10 in many places in afghanistan the (road ) or track is the only way in .2 the snatch vehicles were all withdrawn and jackal were used for convoy protection.
@williamED15 so if you do a little digging you will see that atleast 25 men have been killed in them and probably atleast twice as many injured .this is why thew uk was forced to buy the ocelot .the american developed the matv which is great offroad and has a full vhull .for more info on the jackal go to defence of the realm dot com .its a great site that has lots of info on british kit
Although they have gone over IEDs. They have V-Shaped hulls (they do actually have it, I know some people have been debating it) and they aren't used generally for town patrols. They are used in the wide open for speed, surprise and firepower. The only time I believe they have hit IEDs was during convoy patrol when there was no choice and the convoy had to pass through a chokepoint/settlement. Jackal's aren't suited for that but until they got to that point, nothing else could match the Jackal.
@AHickenUK they do not have a vhull .what miost people think is a vhull is a protetive skid plate on the front that is used to stop debris going into the engine .if you go online you can look at the blueprints and you will see for yourself .as of may 2010 25 men had died in the jackal and countless injured ..there is a great site that has lots of info on it called defence of the realm
One vehicle was taken out , all vehicles being sent to theatre WERE retro fitted with the V shaped hull , so may i suggest you do your homework before posting , btw , you even the aware the USMC have bought these?
are u being stupid now thay are very diffrent vehicles we have the husky which looks very same to the matv and we also have the pather the jackel as 3x 50 cals and a granade launcher the matv only as 1x 50 cal
well these do have loads of protection and great fire power so it would depend on the mission you cant have a big heavy well protected vehicle for some missions cos there not as quick
I think you'll find the US has purchased the rights to build it under licence by lockheed and it does have a v shape hull , i have used it inAfghan , dont tell me bout my own vehicles.
I dont see what your all bollocking on about, its not like your on the defence commitie or about to go shopping with ya mum through kashmir.
In fact NO you will be sat down just like me behind your computer playing a bloody game, either gladly or involuntarily letting all that bad stuff over there pass you by.
As for the comment about British forces over u.s forces and their kit effectivity UK is better fact of fact as ive been on the ground with oppo's of both kits so wind ya neck in hippy.
its no point having something that drives fast when you need to check for mines first before you drive over one. if a raghead had the high ground and had a good shot then the driver and passenger are fucked!
its made for rapid assault and fire support it wouldent be fast if it was heavy armoured we have the pather for that which is alot safer than the hummer and if any 1 shot at one of these it would be suicide 3x 50cal grenade launchers and its good against ieds of course not all but not even a tank is
The lads who operate this kit have rather large balls and dont need heavy overprotected hummers to get the job done.
The casualty figures speak for themselves bud.
Russia lost over 14000 troops in 10 years using heavily armored vehicles, and the u.s are how far into almost having lost 1000 troops? we have lost just over 200 in nearly 10 years. Its because we are tough as old boots and just get on with it.
@SuperBettyswollocks ya thats it tuff as nails just like in the falklands!do you have the same amount of troops in as dangerous places in Iraq and Afganistan? no
Well Helmand is a very dangerous place aswell.......... Remember though, some Americans have been killed by Friendly Fire, by Americans, Same with British also being killed by the Americans.....
what are u talking about? I wasn't talking about friendly fire only the fact that this vehicle dosn't have a roof! everything else about it is great.some people feel they have to defend it no matter what!
British invented Rugby a raw game with no protection... the U.s changed it to "football" and added padding and protection supprts.
British invented cricket with a wooden ball traveling at mach2 ffs and the u.s changed that too and made it all wussy.
So its no surprise the u.s added all sorts of unecessary bits n bobs to an "assault vehicle" mate its not meant to suit the U.S army its designed for quick strikes and assaults on small mobile enemy targets.
Yeah yeah i can see the safety features with this, its just like lying in pink boxers in the middle of a green forest, with a sling shot ~ Soldiers are gonna love you
Really? So that Humvee has adjustable suspension at the touch of a button?
V Shaped Hull? Awesome ground clearance? Seating for more the 4? Nah of course not hey even the US SF are using htese over the Humvee lol yeah of course its not as good!
The WMIK Land Rover never had a roof , it doesnt need one operating in Afghanistan and why would you operate the suspension when your dead? You really are bizzare person.
I am a strange one thanks for noticing!but seriously I'm not hating on your country or technology I'm just saying dust storm, rain, snow, bullets, shrapnel all occur in Afganistan, how does the heater work? what if you had to go back to the falklands? would one sit on patrol in the wheather? do you drive a car with no roof in london? I'm just sayin!
Maybe it was but the Jackal was designed as a monile gun platform from the start , not a humvee being a jack of all trades much like the Land Rover , you cant tell me a Ferrari that is designed to carry 5 people with a roof rack a large trunk etc is gonna be faster then a Ferrari that designed as an out and out sports car are you?
/////read wikipidia about jackal and humvee//////,jackal is owned by the U.S. Lockheed Martin. humvee has 16 inches ground clearence which isnt to bad, they say jackal has a meter but I find that hard to believe and havn't found a picture online of it raising up yet.also 4 brits have been killed in the jackal from roadside bombs,no protection.
the jackal (which is used by US spec ops now aswell) is made by supacat, who are owned by british aerospace. who in 2000 bought lockheed martin. they pretty much monopolize the defence market, they alone make the UK the biggest arms dealer in the world! to see some good footage of one watch the top gear where jeremy plays bulldogs with the army.

thay wouldent have the chance to sey 8 of these are together a taliban opens fire thay would only able get 1 shot of and thay would be dead these have 12.7 mm Heavy Machine Gun, 7.62 mm General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and 40 mm Automatic Grenade Launcher.
thay wouldent have a chance there is not much 2 aim at and these things can go 80 mph and even the best snipers in world couldent shoot some 1 with very little to aim at plus if a shot was fired you would be getting about 10.000 50cal bullets a min comeing at you from all the 50 cals there would be in that group plus thay have grenade launchers aswelll
you'de be suprised the amount of protection the driver and commander and gunner gets while in these. combined with the vehicles armour and full osprey body armour your very well protected. as for the RPG attack, ide like to see a taliban who could hit something while moving
still tho a driver and a passenger were killed by a elevated i.e.d and with no face protection from the jackal, u can imagine what he looked like after
there isnt much that can take the force of a atm or atg but this will help and im sure they will put a roof on it before it goes into service but saying that look whot the sas drive round in and they love there little pink landys cos there fast thats all thees guys need if your doing 100 mph its pritty hard to hit you with a rpg or a ak74 specialy as the taliban are usualy stoned
It already is in service and it wont have a roof, it doesnt need one because it will add unessessary weight etc. Plus a fully loaded WMIK isnt capable of reaching 100mph, so there goes your SAS theory =P
who ever gets it or has it is going to a target with no roof its just not a safe truck the bleeding harts of the country are already winging that the soldiers are under protected evan in the wariors so this truck is worth less and i dont think having a roof on will add too much weight
The Jackal is a weapons platform patrol vehicle, used for shoot and scoot missions & patrols. It does not require a roof for the role it fills, infact a roof would limit its capabilities. The Jackal offers like 5x the protection & performance of the Land Rover WMIK, besides the taliban arent going to be firing down on them from helicopters or something are they? ;-)
no there not firing from chopers but they will fire from a roof or a high building im not saying its not a good little truck but its going to be limeted to certain tasks the sas and sbs will use it for recon jobs and such like they may well take over from the land rover as a tactical vehical as there getting dated now but a lot of peaple will miss the landy i will and im not in the army any more
i just watched another video and your right they are in service and going to take over the landy but they have not been proofed and thats the hard part but you said the sas thing wont happen i talked to a fraind and he said they were the first to get them and they dont like them they are fast there just not relyable they end up being towd and thats not a good thing
i dont know any guys here have any idea of combat but this is made for open space warfare such as in the green zone you have an all round view, as snipers will be out of range to be affective as the standard issuse for taliban is AK74 which the round will not even make 400 feet it will just drop ot of the air. plus you will not use these in built up areas.
you got to be kidding, take that unprotected apc,a hummvee has a hell of alot more personal protect than that thing!it's your ass but any kid w/a 22. can hit ya no where to hide! i bet will be retired very soon
It wasent the idea for protection it is faster than the humvee and is used for reconosance missions or fast attack and its not an apc the british apc is the
Warrior or if you want a protective solution try the FV102 Striker it has better armour than a humvee and could survive an rpg hit or mine :P
it's one of the best viechals for offroad but, it has too low armor protection , so it can't keep safe the crew inside...

It wasent the idea for protection it is faster than the humvee and is used for reconosance missions or fast attack and its not an apc the british apc is the
Warrior or if you want a protective solution try the FV102 Striker it has better armour than a humvee and could survive an rpg hit or mine :P
