Baroque music in the major key tends to be so rubbish, very 'jumpy', fragmented and clumsily harmonised. Too many trills and embellishments. Singer is awesome though.
I didn't know this work, and I love it, specially the Salve. Maybe her technique is not "baroque", but she does it pretty well, and I love the velvet sound of her voice.
Slow trills (not a shake as was more appropriate in Baroque singing), and a lot of ommited trils at that, but her tone is nice to listen too.
Actually some of her trills sound historically (technically would be a bad word to use I think) accurate, but some others don't. I think she uses a more "modern" technique for the trills in her head register. The chest note trills sound wonderfully authentic, though!
Peut etre melisma est butiful, et Porpora est un génie, mais Sonia, on ne l'entend pas trop loin dans la salle! Bien que elle est une fille intéressante! Merci pour poster cette vidéo! AV
I had the chance of being working as a chorist while she performed one of the main character of a baroque opera. We were all astonished for her voice.
Yes, he should. You know, he was Beethoven's musical grandfather of sorts. He taught Haydn and Haydn taught Beethoven. His instrumental works are very beautiful too. This vocal piece was magnificently performed. Pity Nascimento never got around to singing this piece. He was a full-voiced male alto not a falsettist like all the ocuntertenors singing nowadays. His voice never broke.
you're here, too! :) We have the same musical taste! :)
Sonia Prina is my discovery of the week, her voice is sublime, dark and beautiful, it even FEELS good listening to her. I totally fell in love with her voice, as I did with Radu's and klaus Nomi's :)
The first trill of this Salve is so perfect, and the rest as well.
Thanks for bringing this piece to my attention once more. The trill really is magnificent. You'll probably find me many more times if you like baroque opera or belcanto opera. I'm not a big fan of much of the late 19th century stuff and onward. I can't abide the singing of the women. I wish I could because some of the libretti are quite something like Turandot, for instance, but the very loud piercing voices of the soprani are too much for me.
complimenti per il magnifico lavoro, io purtroppo non conosco la musica, ma amo moltissimo la musica antica, ho ammirato la precisione con cui hai elaborato lo spartito,
Because it was performed on a lower pitch (A=415 Hz) with period instruments instead of modern pitch (A=440). Meaning that the instruments are tuned to a relatively lower frequence. So when they play E, for example, it sounds like modern day E flat. For further reading, you can check out the article in wikipedia on the topic.

I feel the same way. I don't really like Wagner for instance :) I love Saint Saens, though.
This is why I love Radu's voice so much, it's not as heavy as those wagnerian sopranos, but light and fresh!
Sonia Prina's voice sounds like dark honey and I love female contraltos. I'd love to hear her and Radu Marian sing together!

Porpora was the big enemy of Handel in London, in the time which Handel composed Operas.
codonauta 3 years ago
I knew they were professional rivals as was the case with Porpora and Hasse but enemies? I didn't know there was anything personal in it.
philomelodia 3 years ago 2
No, I believe it was only rivalry on musical grounds.

@stiv2slava Wow, you have perfect pitch? I suppose 440 Hz is noticeably different than 415 Hz.
