  • She sucks! British accent, American, WHO CARES? She wasn't nearly as good as Louise Dearman is now. AND, FYI @Mralltheworlds a stage, L. Frank Baum was an AMERICAN writer! Gregory MacGuire was an AMERICAN writer, who only coincidentally happened to be residing in London when he was writing the novel that the musical would eventually be based on. It's an innately American creation.

  • do you have the full show up for trade????

  • Oh, and as a random note, I always loved the silhouette of Elphie in the background at the end of this song. <3

  • From what I have seen on YouTube, Helen seems to play a pretty good older Glinda, but I don't think she can pull off the younger Galinda very well. But then again, I never saw her live.

  • do you have the whole show to upload in parts?

  • Is that Sarah asking "why does Wickedness happen?" cos it sounds like rather like her!

  • I use to despise Helen as Glinda but I actually now think she's quite good :D

  • If anybody heard Chloe Taylor do it - she's just amazing. She does a very over-the-top posh accent and I love it!

  • strange thing to point out, but I've always liked London's version of Glinda's wand :)

  • Vocally, it has got to be Louise Dearman?

  • Comment removed

  • louise dearman for the win!!!

  • her "the wicked die alone" is so flat and boring! Louise Dearman is the only one who can really pull that off! It's amazing!

  • Helen was my first Glinda and she was amazing. I saw her and Kerry and I think I preferred he to Dianne although I loved Dianne aswell. Just remeber guys, Recordings dont do justice to a performance. :)

  • It's not galinda...it's gaaaarlinda...just letting you know

  • Yeah she's obviously australian lmao the accent is incredibly fake, they offered her the role of glinda when it opened in australia but she turned it down and did shakespeare in London x

  • she tries too hard I think, sorry to say.

  • Helen is Australian.

  • Helen is Australian

  • She is Australian and I think some acting in Home And Away

  • I don't know why every hates Helen so much. Ok so her accent is atrocious but it's obviously faked and if you actually listened to her singing you would know there is a voice under the accent. And "on your own" at 2:02 is fab :P

  • SARAH EARNSHAW IS FAB!

  • @107e5matthew101 She's great! I like the link that's she's the only member of the original UK cast left. She does a good interpretation of how Dianne played Glinda too, which I enjoy. :o)

  • she is the worst glinda ever.

  • helen sucks serious ass, she is way mediocre

  • This was what I saw when I went to see Wicked for the first time. It blows me away now just like it did then.

  • She has a good "Glinda the good" voice, but it doesn't fit "Galinda the teen queen of beauty" very well...

  • @simzproductionz thats because at this point in the show she is 'Glinda the Good' not 'Galinda the Teen Queen', when saw her she was fab, and she was amazing as Cinderella in Into the Woods last summer.

  • urgh I'm sorry but i really don't like her voice XP

  • Hate to tell you, jjakagary, but Billie Burke who played Glinda in the Wizard of Oz was, suprise -- American! And, it was an American film, not British! So, be shocked at the British accent in this story!

  • There is no such thing as a British accent. British accents only exist to Americans. It's not just a dialect thing either, being British covers all parts of the British isles, including Scotland, Wales, England, Ireland.

The accent used here (and primarily in the West end) is an English accent, not Scottish, Welsh or Irish. Just saying for educational purposes.

  • @nefikan

A British accent can be reffered to any accent in the UK so what do you mena there's no such thing?

    You're an idiot.

  • @tillyboos

Uh didn't Glinda speak with an English accent in Wizard of Oz?

  • @tillyboos Yes, but this isnt the 'Wizard Of Oz', this is Wicked - its a different interpretation of Oz altogether and actually has little basis on the film; 'Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West' was written as a prequel/sequal to the original L. Frank Baulm novel 'The Wonderful Wizard of Oz' and that is what Wicked the Musical is based on. And anyway, how says that people in Oz have an American Accent? For all we know they could speak 'Ozian' :P

  • No, that can't be right either, remember she went to one of Fiyero's castle's at the end of the show? I'm thinking either the Winkie's land or munchkinland.

  • I have one thing that turns in my mind that I can't puzzle out.

Where exactly is this that Glinda makes her appearance? I at once thought it was the Emerald City, but they all traditionally wear green.

Then I thought it was Munchkinland, but I'm just not sure. Does anyone know for certain?

  • i really think she is good but dainne is better .

  • Yup. Dianne is god.

  • oh my goodness - really think this is nowhere near as good as dianne - amost verging on pitchy - her voice just grates sooo much! Dianna totally transformed the character for me, used to think Helen was the best - but her voice for me is just not as good as i remember

  • @jimmy642 it IS pitchy, she's sharp on all the top notes

  • She's infinity better than Dianne Pilkington. Dianne was VERY forced and horrendous to watch. It makes me angry just thinking about it. Helen was SUPERB in this role. She was the best Glinda and I absolutely adore her. LOVE YOU HELEN!!!!! SOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!

  • Oh my goooood. So she doesn't have an American accent, get over it already!

  • No one, apart from Idina (cuz she is) and The Wizard (he is ment to) have an american accent. Its the UK version, so I dont know why ppl are shocked by it. Even in the film Glinda had an english accent. lol So for all those who are shocked, be shocked at the american version for NOT having an english accent! lol x

  • :46

  • she is really good at an English accent.. well thats just my opinion... i love her.. and i love that she's Australian.. and i find it funny that the three main roles in the original London production of wicked were played by an American and 2 Australians...

  • You can see a stagehand clicking Helen to the bubble at 4:54

  • no its one of the cast

  • yes but he clicks helen on the bubble

  • yes but he's not a stage hand, he's a cast member.

  • wow. why is her voice so off pitch? is it originally like that or is it because of the camera?

  • why does she seem off pitch?

  • cos she is

  • I love Helen! Im so proud she's Australian! I just wish she'd come and do wicked over here!

  • lol listen to the ending from when glinda goes up singing "goodness knows..." - helen is sharp on the entire section =l

  • The orchestra is a bunch of people playing in the key the music's written in. There is absolutely zero chance the orchestra all collectively play in the same surprise key. What is a far more realistic culprit is if for whatever reason, due to a change in blocking or unusual audience noise, for example, which makes it hard for the singer to hear the orchestra.

  • I agree. It's hard to automatically, randomly transpose music when playing an instrument, especially with others. An entire professional broadway orchestra wouldn't just change the key unless a) under express orders or b) the singer begins in a different key (and the orchestra- as accompanists- should follow suit)...

I'm guessing that it was Helen's mistake-- even though she's obviously amazing, I agree.

  • Wow Her voice Is Very British

  • Oh my god! Elphaba as a baby could be mistaken for one of Shrek's kids! O.O!

  • ive een wicked many times but he was my first, shes so funny! her facial expresions are jokes!

  • wow my ast name is dallimore 2 lol

  • where is the full show from this day?

  • It's not up anymore. It was put up by flenr but they took it down and I haven't found it anywhere else.

  • shes not my fave glinda but she still talented

  • english is an accent and so is american. BUT how can american be the standard worldwide accent wheneveryne has different

  • I think Helen sounds like an old woman when she sings...i really dislike her voice. I don't think it is awful, I just can't stand it. and her screaming throughout the show is just plain stupid and unnecessary.

  • DIANNE PILKINGTON IS BY FAR THE BEST!

  • I agree shes my fav :) i luv the Galinda voice!

  • @AmyyLovett london wise, Dianne or Louise dearman. :)

  • my god she annoys me!

  • shes ok, but shes overacting the part, (a little out of tune)!

  • I know Helen Dallimore is Australian but Lucy Durak who is G(a)linda in the aussie production is sooooo much better :)

    ~*K*~

  • Oh absolutely agreed, Lucy is a wonderful Glinda. I'm so glad she was given the part here in OZ rather than Helen

  • For all nationalistic Americans who believe 'nothing beats cheno': GO WATCH CHENO!

This Helen/British bashing makes me SICK!

  • @Elphelise u mad?

  • She'd be okay if she didn't always go sharp.

  • Eurgh..I really don't like helen dallimore, WAY too squeaky..go pilkington! :D

  • The man playing the father really isn't as talented as the character really is. And I hate that Helen is constantly speaking in falsetto like that. It's better for her voice, but it's so obnoxious. And when she sang "She dies alone" did it sound like her voice cracked?

  • i know, right? they seem like they're trying WAY to hard.

  • They're better =)

  • Well that's just the beauty of democracy...were all intitled to our own openion

  • she's really bad. Is Annalene Bechey her understudy? Cause Annalene is so much better. But Kristin is best. Annalene is pretty close.

  • I don't think Helen was a good casting at all! she's not fit to play Glinda

  • Helen is the best London Glinda by far! =)

  • Coming from someone who hasn't seen her live means nothing but continue bashing her if it makes you feel better about yourself =)

  • I'm not saying anything about her ability. I'm saying that I don't like Galindas with accents. It ruins it for me. Plus, it doesn't make me feel better about myself, because I'm a better singer than that.

  • i doubt you are. Plus, what is an accent to you? IS anyone who doesnt speak american english speaking with an accent? Honestly....:|

  • I think the problem is more that her accent is very fake and forced. Helen is Australian so obviously this is not her natural voice, and I don't think she fully understands the 'British' enunciation properly. I don't think the character is impossible to to with a British accent, but Helen just doesn't pull it off for me.

  • Well, you've never heard me sing. I think her voice is just fine. I must be a relatively decent singer, though. I'm in my fifth musical, my fourth lead. I have nothing against her, or you. She must have been decent to get Galinda. It's my opinion, and I'm not fan.

  • I think it is stupid to say British English is an accent.

  • wow. british accents wreck this play? relax buddy. overstate much? brits are people too. [seriously? standard worldwide accent? do you have any idea how ridiculous that is? not to say contradictory. people abroad do not have american accents nor aspire to them...]

  • krussel123 you are the most dispicable individual on here!! British people are British! There is NOTHING wrong with having a British accent at all!

And saying it wrecks the play and you shouldn't see it in London REALLY makes me want to punch you!! THAT'S WHERE THEY ARE ORIGINATED FROM!!! Imagine if you said that about the German production and you told everyone not to see it because of their accents, you would definetely get a thrashing then! The production is still brilliant even though I

  • am not German!! If tourists want to see Wicked in London they can! Are you a typical ignorant stupid American who thinks that EVERYTHING should be yours?? Look what you did to Phantom of the Opera and Mary Poppins!

Your accents were fairly bad in Mary Poppins, but did we say "See the one in London, Don't bother with New York"? No we didn't.

The problem with most of you Americans is that you can't see past the line that you've done something that's annoyed us as well! So you're hypocrites!

  • So shut that f***ing mouth of yours!! Who made you a theatre expert???

  • i agree that the british accents were a bad idea, but they by no means wrecked the musical! the talent in that show is extraordinary, with or without the american accents!

  • Can you please explain that more clearly??

Why are people against the British accents in Wicked? Did you mean, they did not wreck the musical just because of the way they sounded? If you did then good. Just because Helen's accent is terrible doesn't mean everyone else in the show is terrible as well!

The German production in no way uses American accents, because they speak German! Do you see people complaning about that? I just don't see what the fuss is. It's in LONDON.

  • It's simple. Most Americans are spoilt arseholes that want everything to be considered American.

Look what they did to Matilda - now that was a British book, everything was British then stupid Hollywood took over and Americanised it! Pathetic.

They almost were going to do that to Harry Potter but JK Rowling put her foot down so bravo to her!

Gregory Maguire himself even said that Wicked is also considered a British book because that's where he wrote it and he got the idea there.

  • i wasn't saying it wrecked the musical at all, i was saying that it doesn't matter about the accents because everyone in that show is amazingly talented! i personally think the show is better with american accents, but obviously it makes sense to use english accents since its set in London! i didn't imply in any way that the musical is bad because of the way they sounded.

  • But didn't Glinda in the Wozard of Oz have a British accent??

  • Not really, it was sorta a posh, American accent.

  • Billie Burke from the movie didnt really have a british accent.

It was more peculier and posh.

  • going to see this in nyc on november 1st in cant wait

  • I wish they held the note at the end on for that long on the CD. It ruins it because they cut it off so quickly. In my opinion, that is the best opening to any show I've seen, and it's ruined by cutting that spine tingling moment off! They have it just right here!

  • wow sometimes i wonder if helen's voice hurts after doing wicked...she's the only glinda i've seen that speaks and sings in falsetto ALL the time...even kristin and megan don't always speak in such high pitches

  • True. I suppose Kristin does, but when you see her in things such as Pushing Daisies, you realise that unfortunately it's her real voice! Poor thing! (She is good though).

  • Some cool trivia...the widwife brings the baby out. When she runs to the bed, you can see her hiding it under some cloth.

  • lol i know dat is so funny! :)

  • omg i would have never seen that. lol thanks.

  • I though this entire cast was amazing, I have seen the chicago production many times and its refreshing to see something new.

  • Aussie girls doing the musical theatre world proud!

  • Yay! :D I so cannot wait until there's pictures (and videos) of Lucy as Glinda all over the internet! :D Oh, and this is random, but one of my favorite parts in the whole musical is when Elphie's silhouette is slowly flailing behind Glinda. It's so powerful! :D

  • Good, but i prefer Kristin.

  • Megan Hilty has always been my personal gem, but Kristen did set the bar!

  • Megan Hilty? Dont know her? Broadway or West End?

  • Broadway, technically. She was in the tour.

  • Oh, cool, thanks.

  • Indeed.

  • Chicago

  • Megan Hilty played Glinda on Broadway, in the tour, and currently in LA. She's going to leave us on May 11th, though. :( She's my favorite Glinda and I'm going to miss her. :(

  • hey thats really hard to do x they are high notes x

  • Ouch that hurt my ears.

  • She's a good actress, not particularly here but elsewhere. Her high notes are always sharp though.

  • I Heart Broadway!!!!!!!

  • Too bad this is West End. xD A lot like Broadway, but not quite there. =]

  • erm... the West End is bigger and better than Broadway.

  • And you must be from America. The West End is MUCH more well-known than Broadway. Broadway is great but it is a kindof try-out before the shows transfer to West End. The talent on the West End tends to be greater than the talent on Broadway.

  • I say you both are idiots, because obviously the larger theatre districts in each respectable country will be well known there, so just chillax.

  • Please do not call me an idiot. You don't know me.

Broadway is an amazing place but it is a known fact that the talent on the West End tends to be greater than that of Broadway.

  • Says YOU who is in England. I can assure you hardly anyone in America knows about the west end, just like hardly anyone in England gives a hoot about Broadway. Like I said, each country knows what their theatre empires are and rarely thinks about anyone else's.

    Again, Chillax.

  • Stop saying 'chillax'. It is not a word.

And if you mean 'relax' then I am perfectly calm in these comments so I don't know what you are talking about.

Secondly, what does me being from England have to do with it? Broadway is wellknown in England and the West End is wellknown in America. Anyone who hasn't heard of both of them obviously doesn't know much about theatre.

  • According to Urbandictionary, Chillax: the combination of chill out and relax.

What I have been saying is that if you go to a high school or community theatre in America, people will say "ooh you should do Broadway" etc. From a lamens point of view, anyone who is not well versed in theatrical doings will not know about the west end. But "Broadway" is used so frequently here it is instantly recognizable. So stop saying it is "well known" in America, because it isn't.

  • Let's just agree to disagree. You don't have to be well versed in theatre to know of the West End. I have a lot of very wise friends from America and even THEY admit that the West End is slightly higher in talent and quality than Broadway. It's a fact. Stop being so ignorant because it is not in the country in which you are from. And it seriously doesn't have anything to do with me being from England. I have actually been thinking of moving to America recently.

  • I love The Dalli!! Dianne comes a very close second I adore Kerry she's by far the best Elphaba

  • Kerry is amazing..Idina is good

Dianne Pilkington and Caroline Keiff are amazing...Helen Dallimore is very good.

I think the current WICKED london cast is the strongest ever, but that is my personal view..I respect everyone elses.

Oh dear what will we do when Kerry leaves for Broadway *tear*

  • Pray that time passes quickly until when she comes back ;)

I completely agree with you, by the way, cast wise. But I have a soft spot for Helen, I must admit <3

  • I hope that Kerry comes to Broadway and never leaves! I did see her live at West End, but I want to see her again.

  • Wow! She plays Glinda so well. I've seen her twice in LOndon, and Dianne Pilkington and Caroline Keiff. She is by far the best, with Caroline VERY close behind! I'm not over keen on Dianne

  • i love all the wicked cast...american and english ! ive seen helen dallimore, dianne pilkington, kerry ellis and Shona white (Kerrys "elphaba" standby ) i have loved it both times...i watched the original broadway cast on you tube and i love kristen and idina....i just love everyone because im such a massive fan of wicked. Everyone has something different to bring to the story and the characters..

  • Helen is amazing. Fact.

  • Helen!!!! i miss you!! she was totally awsome! my first G(a)linda!

  • and stop watching helen if you love kristin too much!

  • How Pathetic Are You All!!

Why Are You Comparing Them All... Why Can't You Just Respect For How They Are Rather Than ''How They Should Be.''

They Are All Good For Different Reasons. They Wouldn't Have Been Cast As The Parts They Are.

So Stop Comparing Them. Its Pathetic!

  • Imagine how rubbish this show must've been before Kerry Ellis came along! ;)

Kerry Ellis is undoubtedly the best of all the Elphies! Best singer, funniest, best actress... generally best!

  • did you see that show with idina LIVE? did you?!

  • Heehee, umm yes actually! I saw her a few tmies when she performing in London, thought she was pretty good at the time, but then she left the Wicked cast and I saw Kerry Ellis instead... immediately I knew Kerry Ellis was wayyyyyyy better!!!

  • I do kinda agree with you. Kerry is definately my favourite, but Idina was still very good. But still doesnt beat Kerry Ellis!

  • I love Idina shes amazing but i cant warm to helen. I think she plays her wrong. I personally think kristin played her the best, niave but smart. I dont think you can take helen seriousley the way she plays her!

  • Yer I Love Idina Too

But I Think The Way Helen Plays Her Is Good

But Thats Proberly Because I Saw Here First And Im Used To Her Lieke That

    But Every One Thinks Differently

  • I have news for all the "Glinda is American- No she is English" people.

They perform Wicked in Germany as well.

    Is Glinda german?

My point is, a show doesnt have a fuck to do with language. Doesnt phantom of the opera take place in a french opera? and do they speak french? NO! So why nag about wicked?

  • and fierhen is right, its set in oz, who knows what there really supposed to sound like, anyway IT DONT EVEN MATTER!

  • Helen Dallimore Is The Best Galinda!!!!

  • No way!Not compared to Kristin chenoweth. I prefer Galinda being played smarter but niave was better for her because her characters not supposed to be "dumb".

  • But Thats Just What I Think

Im Sure Kristin Is Good But Ive Never Seen Her Live Soooo...

I Still Think Helens The Best

  • Why is everyone fighting over something like this. Oz is an imaginary place. For all we know they have an English accent or maybe they have an American one. Either way what is the point of fighting about something so dumb. Every person that is involved with Wicked is amazing. If they wernt why would they be in the show?

  • The thing about musicals is that once you've been listening to the Original Broadway Cast recording over and over again, you become accustomed to the one way its sung and performed. And although you know that the way it's performed live isn't going to be exactly the same, you expect it to be slightly the same.

This just simply isn't. Sorry, it just isn't.

  • well I have to take back all my previous comments because I just saw Helen in a Defying Gravity video...and she is pretty good (so I'm sorry) but I feel she acts like a dumb blonde at some parts....well I guess it's a Glinda thing

  • the Americans can't get it wrong...Gregory Maguire...the writer of the book, supervised the American Musical adaptation, WHERE IT ORIGINATED.

  • yes it is, you don't see us changing Mary Poppins....the performers just use an English accent.

  • whoa first of all Helen sucks and Diane isn't that bad, second of all Wicked originated in America there-fore it is an American story and musical, and it is designed in an American fashion, in which Glinda is a dumb blonde...and you can't change a story just because it is in a different location! English audiences or not, Glinda is a dumb blonde. It's not that Helen is performing for an English audience, it's she sucks at the role of Glinda!

  • Actually did you know Wicked the book was written in London during 1990, get ur facts right try reading the Programme next time...
