I've been doing some thinking. I've trained on the range with different Brit, American an Lithuanian weapon systems, and we always end up talking about bullet flight. I'm wondering if the back spin, not the rifle spin, is due to an imperfect entry to the bottle - if by hitting the curved plastic at an angle the bullet was displaced from its original course, which was then accentuated as it's area increased. My vocabs a little shaky but i'm interested.

The bullet was a hollow point in which it did what it was designed to do mushroom. Creating a larger cavity within it's intended target. therefor incapacitating the muscle tissue of said target.

@derekroolz when the bullet is fired it becomes super heated to the point that u could squish it with essentially just pressure of any kind... including ur finger

but this is only the 1st .5 seconds (if that) aftr it exits the firing chamber then either impact flattens and disperses the heat or it cools mid-flight.

@derekroolz Bullets actually flatten out quite a bit after hitting anything, especially water. If you think about the kind of heat and force behind them, it's not too much of a stretch... They're designed to cause as much damage as possible, especially hollowpoints.

@terminator499 Yes all bullets do to some degree. The general rule is the larger the caliber the more cavitation occurs. There are also bullets specifically designed to fire slower to cause more tumbling within the target as well as frangible bullets designed to break apart upon impact to reduce risk of ricochets and other safety concerns. Basic answer yes they will tumble, some more then others. How much depends on a lot of different factors.

I think what you're seeing there is not the rifle action of the bullet. The bullet is hitting so much drag from the water that it starts tumbling and that's the effect you see. No so much the axial spinning.
