  • Those of you who watched this DO NOT USE A LUNGE LEAD if you really want to work out the horse you should let him run free in the arena because a lunge lead will make them feel like they have limited space and please don't actually hit the horse with the lunging whip it will tramitize them

  • @limeabe You are SO wrong!! A horse needs to know how to listen to a lunge line & their owner/trainer. & NO a whip will not tramitize them! EDUCATE YOURSELF! If you know ANYTHING about horses &/or training you would KNOW a whip is a training AID!

  • @limeabe Letting a horse run free in an arena can be very dangerous, especially when they work themselves up so much they end up injuring themselves. on a lunge you are able to control them to a better extent. You as the lunger are in charge of the area, the speed, and the horses attention. Letting a horse run leads to a horse paying no attention whatsoever to the human, lunging helps to bring them into a better mindset for working. I never use a whip, but i carry one for safety.

  • do u have to hit the horse with the lunge wipe/crop to get it into a trot /canter

  • @123tweettweet123 No you don't, the wipe/crop is like punishment meaning your making him do before you ask nicelly with the command on however you teach your horse and you use the crop/whip when the horse won't listen.

  • also desensatise my horse with a lung whip befor lunging but she still gets scared from it i dont crack it i do when i am desencitising her but thats when shes cumfterble with it :( please help me

  • @nat9810 I would suggest watching some videos on natural horsemanship such as parelli or clinton anderson. watch the way they use the whip or stick as a reward and as incentive, much like any dominant horse would. whenever she does a good thing, rub her itchy spots with it, when she doesnt do as you ask, "bite" at her with the whip. it takes practice but hopefully youll get the hang of it.

  • ohk i can lunge my horse but .... she just wont hold herselfe in the circle and pulls on the lead so it titens around my hand please help me or email me an answer if you have one please !!!!! littlemisshorses @hotmail.comand can you use open front jump boots when lunging cose thats all i have atm i do have polos but still lerning to use them and

  • @nat9810 For not being able to hold herself in a circle, try lunging in an enclosed area such as a round pen or small paddock. that way you are forcing her to keep the circle. You could always try walking up and down the arena walls with her on the lunge, ask for a trot and as she comes to the wall take a few steps along with her. You may find it helpful to get lunging experience from a "lunge master" or a horse that knows how to lunge well.

  • Anyone watching this for accurate training - I wouldnt advise stepping back commencing lunging, it is a certain fail in a bhs exam which i am pretty sure plumpton college train for.

The correct and safe way is to step forward and sideways away a few steps sending the horse forwards with the whip at a safe distance. (Also remember to shut the gate after you)

  • @lovepiano4ever Uggg why does everyone think that?? I pour all my money into my english jumping horse, and so far she hasn't earned any money. which is totaly fine by me, I never expect her to. Money is only when you make it to the REALLY big shows.

  • I may be incorrect, but I was taught that you should never loop a lead rope, lunge line, reins, or anything connected to the horse so that in case your horse bolts or spooks, the line/lead/rein will not wrap around your arm or hand. Just something that I wanted to share. :)

  • @Ponyositiy thats very true. I know of people who have been dragged and or broken fingers that way.

  • @Ponyositiy That is true, but dealing with such a long line ends up getting a tad tricky, and as long as you keep a loose hand and loose loops you should maintain organization of the line and not lose a hand. (so many looses!)

  • the woman is crossing her legs over the wrong way, causing the horse to not have a space to go cause her hip is blocking him, not drawing him to go that way. why isnt the horse wearing a saddle pad?

  • @Ivibibi10 because it doesn't really matter, saddle pads are just for looks, honestly.

  • @3trials2hearts1dream Saddle pads aren't for looks, they protect the saddle from the horse's back. The saddle could rub on the horse's back during riding. :)

  • @Ponyositiy unless its custom made. Which is pretty rare :)

  • This horse has really nice movements :)..

  • when i stand still and try to lunge my horse to the right he backs away instead .. but to the left he does it properly why would that be?? any suggestions on how to make him lunge to the right??

  • @irrelayfo Maybe he has some problems with his right side? Try having a chiropractor look at him.

  • @irrelayfo If it's not a problem chiropractor related than maybe he is not used to lunge on the right side and he needs some positive reinforcement and guidence

  • i love how the way she says bellybutton

  • and never lunge for more than 15 mins its hard on the horse and can cause injury(:

  • shut the gate

  • near end the horse looked like it was about to trample her. He jumped forward

  • PEOPLE!!! A lot of people dont use a saddle pad.. CHILL

  • 18m is about 60ft. lol, that horse isn't 60 feet from you

  • @SodomGomorrahWaDC yeah and on a 20m circle the horse isnt 20m away from you, its the size of the circle as she said..

  • Nice video!

  • are you stupid?!!! you dont have a saddle pad! you can hurt the horse!

  • where's ur saddle pad????

  • Well it's definitely not hurting her to wear a helmet. So who cares?

  • to those saying no pad was used i think if you look closely a roller pad is being used. its black and less obvious than a saddle pad would be

  • my pony will go one way but not the other help!!!!

  • I can't seem to lunge my boy, he can do about 3 times round me but then gets confused and tense (even though the whole time i'm telling him he's fantastic and clever) and i can't use a whip my boy as he is scared to death of them! Even if i rub it on him, telling him he's a good boy etc as soon as i use it he trys to attack it. Any ideas?

  • my horse is constantly fighting with the lunge rein - it is the first time he and iv have lunged, so im no expert! angone got any advice to stop my beastie from pulling on the lunge line? and any other tips before i start lunging again? Thanks :D

  • Refreshing to see someone wearing a helmet and gloves when doing ground work, especially when professing to be teaching horsemanship to viewers. You may save someone a traumatic brain injury one day.

  • @kokopelli2864 If you're doing ground work correctly, I honestly don't see any need for a helmet. Especially while lunging.

  • @MagnoliaDreaming It is my personal opinion that a helmet should always be worn--a friend of a friend had a horse spook with her while she was leading it and it slammed into her and her head hit a metal hook the wall; she passed away. Of course, it is just my opinion that this woman's ground safety is perfect--you are perfectly entitled to your own opinion and I can see why in 98% of circumstances a helmet is not necessary.

  • @liberatingstrife Freak accidents happen all the time, to avoid the chance of getting a head injury you'd have to wear a helmet every second of every day. I could fall down the stairs at my house and bust my head open, doesn't mean that I'm going to wear a helmet every time I walk down the stairs. I mean, I completely understand and agree with wearing helmets while riding, but working with horses on the ground is a whole different thing.

  • why do indoors and not in a open field

  • @steve74i It can be dangerous. if the horse spooks and bolts, she will have no control in a large field, but has more control in the sand school.

  • @MagnoliaDreaming Well, if the horse spooks and runs into her for safety and she gets knocked over, her head is going to be safe and yours probably isn't in the same situtation because of the lack of a helmet

  • a lot of the time english saddles don't need pads under them plus she isn't riding the horse she's only lunging him

  • Didn't you loop the lunge line into the wrong hand for changing rein??

  • Lots of people don't use saddle pads if the saddle fits PROPERLY there is no need. They never used to back in the day

  • @TheSploblet True...but they never used to wear helmets either...look how that worked out Lol...

And pads and numnahs keep the saddle cleaner and reduces pressure on the horses back...

But it's true you have to fit saddles without them..

Each to their own I guess...

    =D

  • This is a sad video. Mainly because you "an expert" but yet you have not saddle pad! Yeah, This is logical.

  • @WondersCreated haha wow i found your comment again on another video lol!

  • really the only time when you dont have a saddle pad would be when fitting ur saddle! ouch! ide like to but a big piece of leather on ur raw skin tighten it and make u got jog around in circles!!!!!!

  • yeah, a saddle pad is always good to ride with, hahaha, otherwise, its like leather rubbing raw aginst your skin,

  • omg he wasn't wearing a pad! ugh! that looks so uncomfortable

  • you need a saddle pad! it prob pinches him/her

  • very pretty and obedient horse your blessed
