  • Lol you don't need a dual core processor to play BluRay quality video.

  • I gave up with this media device, every update made it worse and lip sync issues on mp4 and mkv ruined movie watching.

  • Hey there :-)

It accept subtitles? And if yes what languishes? Cause I have another TV media player that accepts subs but the Greek subtitles it show with Chinese letters @_@. LOL

    Thank you ^___^

  • @polymiaki well it has some problem with arabics.. i've never try arabic subtiles but it shows up with like boxes and crosses... idon't know how greek looks like, but if greeks letter contain letters from normal alphabet but with like some accent marks, it's fine, say like french or spanish, but if it's like chinese, cambodian, arabic or odd looking letters. it might get screw up

  • let's imagine I have a folder with lots of music videos; does the tv live go on playing the next video after another? Does it also have a random mode?

  • Do you have an assessment for the new apple tv 2nd generation that was released oct 2010? Thx

  • please respond anyone if WD My Book Essential 2TB will work on this thing.......

I just bought that external hard drive recently and it won't work on my PS3 and i thought i'll get one of these......by the way awesome video review.......thanks

  • there is no download store

  • I bought this to play home movies from my HD video camera and it did play the raw files (MOV) in 1080P. Looked great! If I used the software that came with camera to combine several clips together it produced an MOV/AVC1 codec. This unit cannot play it. However, if I used Windows Movie Maker, it produced an AVI/DVSD codec file. Cant play that either. I contacted WD support, but no upgrades. You would think they would at least support a codec that MicroSoft uses as a default.

  • I have this and i cannot stress how much it makes my simpler. I have hundreds of .MKV file movies like in 720p and 1080p as well as tv shows that i watch religiously. And this thing make its so easy to play. Only thing is its a little slow, but that might be my Harddrive. But definitely reccomend this!!

  • I heard that it cannot play right protected videos, so if I buy videos or movies on iTunes, for instance, it won't play them. Is that true ? If so, how/where can I get "non-right protected stuff" to store directly on my drive(s) instead of having to copy hundreds of DVDs ?"

  • Nice review. To the point and informative.

    Quick question:

Are there manual operating buttons on the device? If something were to happen to the remote it would be pretty bad to have to replace the entire device...

  • Excellent video. Why don't you guys make reviews of something similar, like Patriot Box Office 1080P High Definition Media Player.

  • does it support divx,cheers

  • @ffaizj well duh

  • Hi.

Can I make networking store with Western Digital TV? Other computers in the same lan can access files in USB Disck plugged in Western Digital TV?

  • I want to know. Is it possible to record videos on the this from the tv? You know like a Dazzle...

  • @Musholmgade

No, unfortunately these media player's do not record from a cable or satellite source. What you would need is something like a PVR or a TV Capture Card in your PC. However, after you have captured the video onto your computer. You can stream it directly to your living room and play on one of these units.

  • Waaant.
