  • CURTIS INDEED WAS GAY, WE WERE ON THE SAME SOCIAL CIRCLE HERE IN NYC BUT WHO CARES HE WAS ONE HELLUVA SINGER AND ENTERTAINER. RIP CURTIS WE MISS YOU !

  • Fantastic tune still sounds & looks fab!

  • Curtis had an awesome voice! I sang with him back in the day. We almost started a group together consisting of me, Leroy Burgess, Russell Patterson and of course Curtis himself. I miss him very much. RIP Curtis.

  • Shame he died back in 1996 at the age of 34 RIP. A talented guy for sure.

  • I LOVE IT ALL A MASTER VOCAL JESSE JAM ?

  • Pucka!!!!!!!!banging tune now and back in the day

  • Always reminded me of a gay eddie murphy

  • @MrIcantdecideonaname

Curtis was'nt gay, but who cares. This song is jammin'! I wonder why this song was'nt big in the US. Europeans have a different taste in R&B music than Americans.

  • Curtis was a real talent and never fails to get crowds movin on the dancefloor today.

  • sinnatras in croydon

  • "Celebrating Curtis Hairston" tribute album, coming soon!

  • @Globalfaction I was just thinking the same thing. He would never get a record deal today. He was a phenominal singer but nowadays they go for looks more than vocals.

RIP Curtis, sing with the angels bruv.

  • I so love this and shot here in London England, the voice is amazing nothing like any voice I have heard I really danced to this back then when clubs were places for dancing and going their for the Soul Funk and Disco unlike today their is nothing like the 80s culture.

  • The video is as camp as a row of tents, but boy could that guy belt out a tune.

    Excellent!

  • Just heard this song on the radio a week ago. This was another unsung artist. He was so young when he died. Only 34 years old. He died from complications of diabetes and kidney failure. This man could sing!!!!!

  • BRING BACK THE FUNK...

  • Such a fabulous tune & video!!! Curtis you rocked!!!!

  • LOVE THIS, GREAT MEMORIES XX

  • Haven't heard this for ages :)

    Thanx for posting.

  • This man was tight..if you can...look up his album from 1986..self-titled...I still have my album AND CD after all that time...this man could sang...may he rest in peace.

  • i never suspected, until i went to see CH at a lower manhattan nite club where. L. Levan was spinning and saw a sea of black men with baseball caps (1985) that Curtis was "very gay." One of the very finest "soul' singers bar none.

  • Thank you so much for posting this video!!! It brings back some great memories!! What a cool guy!!!

  • R.I.P Mr Curtis Hairston, great artist ,great music !

He died at 34 years old !!!...

  • All this talk about whether he 'drank from both taps'. Who cares whether he was gay -a great track and a top man for bringing it to us.

  • @bigblackbadbrother Hey i like to read comments, it's almost like reading liner notes from the back of albums, but on another level. it's nice to know facts or what people think as long as it's not downright disrespectful or an all out lie. Saying he's gay is not disrespectful, it's just that it is what it is. It is a great track, the first time i heard this

  • Ah, man! This really brings back good memories. Too young to go to the club..never knew what the artist looked like..just heard great music being pumped by Kiss and WBLS.

Tears of joy (in remembering good times) and partial for sorrow, for those that have left the physical.

Regardless, their work makes them immortal.

    Due ya' thing Mr. Hairston.

  • A timeless classic. a fantastic vocalist where has this music gone. I think it needs reviving as a mark of respect for Curtis and the joy he bought to all good music lovers.

  • Luther Vandross was his backing vocalist!

  • Curtis Hairston was one of the best soulsingers, as far as I'm concerned. His singing sounds so effortless. Amazing. I really love the music he recorded. It's sad he died so young. Respect and R.I.P.

  • Bought his LP in 85'outstanding vocals, beautiful music. I defy anyone to remain seated when his tunes are played at parties. Don't want to hear no sxxt about this rumour and that. Just appreciate the joy his music brings into our lives, after all he never hurt anyone. RIP

Remember it was the voice that got you listening in the first place!!!!

  • well said my friend and well posted....some people just havent got a clue....at the end of the day,its all about the music..gay,aids and all the other wrong crap is irrelevant, the fact is he's no longer with us,but his great tunes are...Luther,Barry,Gregory,Marvin and all the other soul legends left us with more than memories.

  • " I will climb the highest mountain,

I will swim the deepest sea,

I do anything to get your lovin' back to me!"

    That's my favourite line.

R.I.P. Curtis you were one of the best and are sadly missed.

  • c de la bombe de funk elle tue sa mere

  • What a great track! All time classic this tune...I haven't seen this video before, so it's always a surprise get this 80's stuff on video...

  • Thankyou for posting this,I absolutely love this song - I had it on a compilation CD a few years ago but lost it....it's great to hear it again, classic.

  • I Knew There Had To Be A Video Of This Amazing Talent. One Of My All-Time Favorite Singers. His BB&Q Band And Solo Tracks Can Jamm To Any All Night Party Bash. RIP

  • he probably would have had a long and great career had he lived long enough. i knew him through a group of gay friends in the very early 80s in winston-salem n.c. he won a talent contest singing the greatest love of all.he was sweet and kind. a little wild needless to say. he went to new york and got a recording contract. he died many years ago i was told by people who grew up off cloverdale ave with him.

  • brilliant song by a wonderful singer. Curtis Hairston, LIzzy mercier Descloux, Weekend, Sylvia Striplin. Got me through the 80's.

  • I use to chill with Curtis at the Nickle Bar in nyc, he was mad cool, then he started to record for my friends Lola and Bob Blank, who owned the studio Blank Tapes , which was pumpin out all the disco jams! we became good friends. wow RIP Curtis!

  • man thats another great story....his voice and music were outstanding...its great to here stuff like that....a very sad loss..

  • This brings back the best memories. What happened to these type of great singer? This had made me want to go back to professional singing...

  • My family and I attended the same church (First Baptist Church in Winston-Salem, NC) as he did in the late 70's, even though I honestly was a little young to remember him then. My mom remembered him singing in the choir, and said that he had a wonderful voice.

I never knew that there was a video to this song, which is my favorite of his. But he is still very much missed here. R.I.P.

  • thats a great little story.....your choir must have sounded excellent...

  • Yeah, they did. My mother just told me that she remembers him sitting in the seat ahead of us, and remembers his curly hair. :)Fantastic singer.

  • sun out,roof down,shades on,cd player on loud....and this tune.....what more could you want...

  • I am sorry for error I blend several languages small history songs were intended has his girlfriend

  • ok he was big and fine but must one insult it especially therefore that he is not any more there to re-lay you or to prove you the opposite small anecdote songs i want your lovin and i want you all tonight were destinees has his girlfriend

  • in all poor languages curtis had a short definitely lined up life and a girlfriend has make it slobber, more, one; already in 25 old years as in the video, its illness l ' had employed well and he had to not too much s exhaust the diabete is a complex illness

  • thats easy for you to say..

  • was curtis gay, i heard he had aids. i,m not tryin, to start any drama, just curious.

  • I understand your curiousity ... you're certainly not the first to ask the question.

For me whether gay or straight we should label the artist by their music.

A disease such as Aids is in the public domain and its your guess as well as mine as to whom has it and from whom they got it from.Nevertheless, organ failure has very similar hallmarks to complications that accompany the onset of HIV.You cannot stop the rumours...R&B is rife with 'gay artists'!Dont let this empty your CD collection!!

  • He may have had AIDS by sharing needles (if he did drugs...but I'm not sure).

I know this is off subject of Curtis but, Wayne Cooper, falsetto member from Cameo (1976-1980) died of AIDS, but it was suggested that he was gay, until someone mentioned that it could have been caused from the un-sterilized needles (rumors of Heroin addiction).

  • Curtis was a lifelong diabetic, and his death was due to his illness.

  • right on...

  • @OneMixDJ amen. I'm sick of everyone saying he died from drugs, AIDS, or cancer. Even if it was those things, does it really matter. He was diabetic from birth.

  • @trdxsd2010 Correct-sadly. Remember the talent and the great songs.

  • I have this video. and I was about to post it. DAMN. good job, though.

  • You know if he had other videos ("I Want You (All Tonight)" and "Chillin")?! Hes a North Carolina native, whose was only famous in Europe. How did he die?

  • he suffered diabetes and subsequently died of kidney failure.....

There is some live video footage of Curtis Hairston performing. The performances were mind blowing. He was very connected to his soul and found it easy to translates this into his music. it is hope that these rare tape will be available in the not too distant future...just awaiting some confirmation . I'm working on getting some coverage of the eighties group First Circle "working up a sweat" my cousin played bass guitar..

  • There is quite a lot of live footage floating around .But, according to contacts it may take some time getting to ...since its in storage.

However,it would be great to put an electro soul compilation together as the sound was terrific and in my opinion timeless.

  • WTF!? I didn't know this dude had any videos! This is mega rare!! Augustus1850, thanks 4 finding this classic and thanks 4 ur comments on the Eddie Townes video!

  • will you digitize curtis's tubes introduced to this new generation what really is to sing? curtis has had the nicest voice viola funk of all time and unequalled today

  • He promoted this single heavily in the UK in1985 & appeared on several UK TV shows like Top of the Pops which I remember being a very cool performance by Curtis! Would love to see this performance again!
