@divinehuntress do you mean the second "beautiful"? I think that's not a high note that anyone sings, but an overtone you're hearing because they're perfectly in pitch on that chord!
Argh. I want to dislike this group so much, but they keep pulling these awesome performances out. I think the reason I want to hate them is only because they're mostly past contestants, and I don't find that fair. I do respect Geena a lot more now, and of course Jo the lady-bass. I would love if they were kept on a bit more, but I don't think I want them to make the finale. I want Pentatonix, Afro-Blue, and maybe the Aires to make the finale, but this group is amazing.
Strangely enough, so far Delilah has done its best when covering songs by male artists. The two times they did songs by other women (Heat Wave, What a Feeling), it wasn't so well received by the judges.
I'm not of fan of these girls at all. However, I think this arrangement had some very beautiful moments. for example, the chord at 1:23, the phrase from 1:30-1:36, and homegirl at 1:45-1:48 (and the background vocals during that part were straight up 90's R&B chords).
This song takes off around 1:05 (love the soloists' voice), then again about 1:22, and it his amazing when they change the rhythm at 1:50... man I was SOOOO not ready for this performance. I don't listen to much rap music, so I had never heard lil wayne's version and thank GOD! Beautiful job ladies!
@MommaDawn Those overtones from 1:35-1:37 are to die for. Unbelievable. This song gives me chills every time I listen to it. You guys are amazing. I'm rooting for you!
I personally don't like Lil' Wayne because I don't like what the majority of his songs represent, so I wasn't excited that they were singing one of his songs. Delilah couldn't have done a better job. I had to go back and actually look up this song because it didn't sound like his version. "Lil' Wayne got sensitive on cats".
geena is incredible! i love her voice, its beautiful, all the girls have beautiful voices but the fact that she can beat box amazingly well as well as have the voice of an angel...truly amazing.
Personally, I think Wayne's version is shit. I hate this song, and was pretty upset when I found out they would be covering it... For me, they took a pretty dull, emotionless song and turned it into something wonderful.
interestingly at first the overtone sounded like an augmented 5th with Jo on the bass, just until the arrangement shifts in chords she resolves it beautifully a half step down. That is awesomeness in a jar that needs to be heard more often.
This is soooooo........lost at words...I'm spreading this video like wildfire. And that Bb that Jo pulls at the end has me really practicing my bass......
This is phenomenal!!!! My friends and I have been inspired by this to finally come together and be the all female a Capella group we were meant to be! This has definitely helped me open up to the sort harmonies we would love to do. Thank you sooooo much!!
Keep this up, Delilah, keep up this kind of smart arrangement that you are extremely capable of, where the chords are full and the harmonies impactful. You sort of had a thinner backing vocals the previous few performances and with this performance you brought back your game to the show. Please only get better and avoid losing the full sound you have!
I never knew the beatboxer could sing like that! Everyone sings so sincerely, it's the kind of performance you cannot describe after experiencing. Their performances are just uniquely theirs and they never fail to deeply move me. I never seen any other group who wants this as bad as them. It's like, they're so desperate to out-do themselves, and that's amazingly inspiring. I never head any acapella group with that much emotions after backbeats sang "Landslide."
@kireiray if you mean the solo, that's definitely Ingrid. if you mean the much higher note (the Bb above the staff), I think that's an overtone! the true mark of in-tune singing.
@MommaDawn great job on the solo, too! you and Ingrid together are like BUTTER to my ears.
@jrnelswm NICE EARS! I'm singing the Bb harmony underneath Ingrid's soaring vocals and when this aired last night we were like "WOOAHHHHH OVERTONES" hahahaha. Thank you so much, it really means a lot. love you!
I really like Delilah a lot, but I feel like the are a ballad group. Every time they have done any song that was fast then you got the top heavy overload that happens with most all female groups. As long as they stick with the slow arrangements they should go far.
@Bigshotbob33 It's not the speed that screws them up it's the lyrics themselves. They need lyrics with pain, sorrow, and all kinds of other complicated feelings in them. Heatwave is about being simply happy in love and what a feeling is.....just a fame like anthem song for a movie. If they are careful about their song choices from now on they just might be able to get runner up.........cause well lets be honest no one can touch Pentatonix....YEAH I SAID IT!!!
@GritsnBeans ACTUALLY if you really listen to the lyrics of Heatwave it's about a horrible kind of love that rips through your heart and burns you from the inside out. Not even kidding. Lyrics aren't our downfall or strength, but inspiration and focus is. Heatwave is just a vapid song and we did the best we could with it. We had a pretty rough 2 weeks and it's hard to shake that off, especially when you have to do it on national TV haha. And ya Pentatonix is the shit we love them to pieces ;)
@MommaDawn you ladies are AMAZING!!!! keep up the hard work and it will all pay off in the end :) i love watching yall perform... by the way you are b-e-a-utiful
@MommaDawn Then why the hell didn't you sing it that way? Your strength comes from taking the audience to a very intimate and emotional state. You guys blew me away with Grenade and had me close to tears with what do you want from me....which is still the best version I have ever heard. Sing the songs the way you guys want which is in that heart killing way you guys do so well and you should last till the end.
@GritsnBeans thank you so much for your passion & support. its very hard on the show (in the moment w/the pace you have to move at) to take a step back & look at what youre doing, esp when youre being told to perfect the path youre on as quickly as possible. putting your blind faith & trust into something is one of the main things we have to do as contestants. Every group struggles w/it. But we know when we sing from our <3s we succeed, & hope to continue to move the audience. Thank you again <3
@MommaDawn I gotta say, putting Geena on lead was like pulling a rabbit out of a hat--nobody expected it, and suddenly you were able to put an alto on lead without affecting the ensemble balance. It was brilliant, and it *worked*.
(Along those lines, you and Ingrid should sing together All. The. Time. (see 1:26-1:40) That's pure gold, there.)
