  • I like how every good Sherlock had a distinct, deep, liquid voice.

  • Oh, wow. What a voice that man had. RIP, Mr. Brett

  • 4:02 "-Snort!-"

  • What is the song that Holmes sings at the beginning?

  • I love that Mycroft has the "greatest mind for storing facts of any man living" but he instantly forgets Watson's name.

  • Please mark the little routine ceremony at 3:05 : Holmes tries to seduce Watson with a glance though we can gather from his annoyed facial expression that it´s not the first time and he knows already he`ll fail again, but it`s just routine, and then he`s so bored this evening anyway. So let`s just give it the daily little try...even if Watson is evidently more interested in his papers, there`s nothing else to do anyway....

  • Charles Gray was usually a class act, but I'm afraid I found his Mycroft a little too Nigel Bruce. There's just no spark in his performance here. Brett deserved far better.

  • lestarde: *rushes in* sorry gents but there's been a murder.

holmes and watson: *jump up and throw arms in the air* YAAAAY HOMICIDE!

  • @GlassCtiy perpetrator: FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • I would love to meet Sherlock's and Mycroft's parents. The pair can produce such brains...

  • I agree the ages are a bit off. Mycroft is ten years older than Sherlock and in this one holmes is about 36ish. Brett did an apsolute wonderful job geting Sherlock just right. :{) <- watson smile

  • hahah Holmes all excited about seeing his brother just because he knows he'll bring him a case

  • charles grey was an awsome actor.he played blofeld and shere khan in the disney version of the jungle book

  • <3 Holmes's song

  • A man with Mycroft's mental powers wouldn't have forgotten Watson's surname.

  • @koratvinnie I've always interpreted that bit as Mycroft messing about with Watson a bit.

  • hes always so bored!! he should get an xbox

  • @Danny2661 yes you first meet mycroft in the greek interpreter

  • holmes=middle age

mycroft=OLD OLD OLD! he could be his grandfather's grandfather!

  • @sterlingknightishot1 Charles Gray...the actor who plays Mycroft is just five years older the Jeremy...I must say that Gray looks pretty old here. He´s about 60 here but looks loke 70 I must say and Brett has always looked younger then he is...

  • The Real SINGING (consulting) DETECTIVE...OH YEAH!

  • @Danny2661 Well I belive his own brother is allowed to call him Sherlock instead of Mr Holmes ;)

  • One of my favorite stories in the book. Thanks for uploading!

  • I don't know what it is about these British actors have over American Actors. As far as classic is concern I like British actors to act in it. Futuristic stories suites American. This is one of my favourite scene that I can repeat many, many times just to hear the way they snort and greet each other.

  • I love that disgusted snort Holmes gives.

  • What song is Holmes singing

  • Stops singing. Puts his pipe on the mantle piece. Stands over Watson. Looks at him pointedly as if to say: Well? I'm bored. Be more interesting. Nope, you're reading the paper...' goes off to find something less dull.

  • Excellent series...Brett is amazing

  • "DR-uhhh..."

    "Watson."

    Haha; poor Watson! :P

  • p.e.r.f.e.c.t.

  • Do British people eat rice? what was at his dinner?

  • @goodbyelonglive44

Certainly do, and did in Victorian times too.

  • @goodbyelonglive44 Looks like it could be bangers and mash.

  • Woohoo! Thanks for posting all these. I bow to you'r sublime sense of entertrainment!

  • @Yerabasan thanks...I will upload more videos..this is my other account!

  • Damned glad to see Mycroft again! So decidedly intelligent and yet so very lazy. I appreciate his lack of desire for extreme application in the manner of his brother. On reading the stories, I was under the impression that S. Holmes much preferred delving into things and, well, working, whilst his elder brother liked better to sit on the inheritance and work out a puzzle every now and again if the mood suited. So even if he is supposed to be the intellectually superior, he lacks motivation.

  • @FredericDaguerre Very true, Mycroft is supposed to be smarter but Sherlock is more effective at solving crimes because even though Mycroft solves the mysteries he refuses to take the time and get dirty gathering the evidence etc. which is needed to convince a jury and get a conviction. At first I didn't like this guy he seems too energetic and confident to me, but if I don't compare him to my original perception of Mycroft I do like him a lot.

  • What happened to the first Watson

  • @CheeseGrater107 David Burke, the first Watson, wanted to leave so he could spend some more time with his family, especially his then 2-year-old son. But it's been said that he recommended Edward Hardwicke personally through his wife.

  • Eep! Holmes is singing!!!! Yes, unfortunately, age, smoking, and illness has tempered his once angelic voice. Pity, but he is still singing -- I never thought I would ever hear Sherlock Holmes sing!!

    "Sherlock!" "My-croft!" LOL!

  • i love how he snorted his nose at the petty crimes!

  • de zavu mycroft sounds like my brother

    soooooooooooooooooooooooo creepy

  • i find it absolutely hilarious that Mycroft can remember the smallest, most trivial fact, but can't even remember the name of his own brother's best friend...

  • That moment always cracks me up, too! Holmes gives this speech about his brother's great mental powers and how his word has formed national policy, then Mycroft can't remember Watson's name. I smell a bit of sibling rivalry here. Yes, Mycroft has extraordinary mental powers, but his memory has a glitch when it comes to names. Holmes gives this glowing speech knowing damn well older brother is going to trip up.

  • Lol dang that sounds kinda like me... rofl

  • And me! I can remember all kinds of facts, but I can't remember a name to save my life.

  • @TheKulu42 lolz

  • "Why should he be a policeman.." LOL

  • Do you mean that?? right on the set?

    oh my god!

I have been wondering just now how he hold it on while his condition must be gravely pulled down. I guess he was holding to Sherlock Holmes that was the only thing in his life that was left.

  • Yep. they would try to make him ease up but he insisted "the show must go on"

  • So brave! As terrible as Holmes would be. Never want to be disturbed by physical harm. Was it during filming Sherlock Holmes actually that it happened? Where did you get the information from?

  • Wikipedia, the page on the actor.

  • My favorite episode with Mycroft is "The Golden Pince-Nez". Is it just me, or does Charles Gray really add a wonderful dimension to that character? Gray injects Mycroft with a colorful personality....in the books, as brilliant as he is, Mycroft comes across as rather dull (Doyle possibly wrote him as such on purpose to emphasize his indolence) but Gray gives him a certain spark that I love.

  • Gray/'Croft wasn't meant to be in GPN. It was supposed to be H&W, but Hardwicke wasn't able to be in that episode due to scheduling conflicts, so Charles Gray had to step in. He really is a wonderful Mycroft.

  • thanks for posting the Jeremy Brett Sherlock Holmes episodes. best ever.

  • one of the best ever shows from Granada!

  • I always a enjoy a good mystery... which involves each and every Sherlock episode!

  • thanks for posting. love this!!

  • sherlock much older.....OLDER....OLDER brother lmao

  • Bradstreet is defintly a government hack, must have had a strong connection to get him his job lol

  • thanks for loading man!

  • I think he should act as James Bond.

  • Actually he almost did! But he failed the casting, twice. (see Wikipedia for more details) :)

  • Really? Wow! How could he fail?

  • whatever brett's strong points, musicality is not one of them! but the snort at "petty crimes" is brilliant.

  • Haha, well, I actually think that Holmes' singing is quite charming! Holmes is not a trained tenor (nor is Brett); he's singing just to amuse himself. I love his unabashed manner, and let's say, not everyone of us, trained or not, can sing so freely in the presence of others!

  • See my above comment to gipsyjaime. ;-)

  • Actually Jeremy Brett was a fairly accomplished singer. He sang on stage in some light opera/operetta I believe. His singing here isn't terrible :P but it's probably a combination of his poor health and hamming it up a bit on purpose. :D You can hear even his speaking voice is suffering a bit by this point. I invite you to check out the clip "Jeremy Brett and Twiggy" on youtube. His singing there (probably 10 years or so before this) is actually QUITE beautiful.

  • Oh yes, thanks for the comments, and yes, I ABSOLUTELY adore that clip of JB with Twiggy. All 3 songs and their performance are extremely cute. I think I left a comment there too ^_^

  • Yes I love it too. I really wish that he'd made some commercial recordings of songs like that! His voice was more than good enough and his phrasing was exquisite, and I'm sure it would have sold well. I did find however, a CD of of highlights from "The merry widow" that had a fair amount of his singing on it.

  • THere is also I believe a number of other clips of his stage singing with just audio.

  • Brett a brilliant Sherlock, Hardwicke a brilliant Watson and Charles Gray was a perfect Mycroft. A brilliant series!

  • what song was this Sherlock was singing?

  • He's singing "Quemadmodum desiderat cervus ad fontes aquarum," which is the Latin version of Psalm 42 ("As the hart panteth for the water brooks"). Lots of composers set that particular psalm to music --- I don't know whose version Holmes is singing.

  • 8:52 You must drop everything sherlock, Never mind your usual petty puzzles of the police court. ROFL ROFL

  • Poor Holmes...he's so bored.

"Yes, I know, I apologize for the state of my room." XD

  • Holmes' singing is a bit off-tone, but pretty good.

  • Very interesting singing love *smirks* 3:21-3:27 "He prefer to eat his nails" LOL! "And what is up with that piggy snork lmao! 4:05 sooo adorable!

  • lol i know its awesome i almost missed it

  • Because the book is about how he was struggling with his manic depression and a heart condition. She describes good and funny moments in their life too, she is a very positive person but she also speaks about his manic fits, hospital stays, weight problems, the fact that he was overmedicated, how upset he was after he appeared in Moll Flanders (American version) and he was gasping for breath after saying like three lines of text and realising his career was over...

  • what is he singing? the bored Holmes.. so cute x_X

  • in the book mycroft was desctibed as looking exactly like sherlock only grossly obese.

  • a singer he aint! he should stick to the violin

  • true Holmes wasn't a singer but Jeremy Brett was actually very good and displayed his talents in other productions. Perhaps notably his solo in My Fair Lady

  • that was before decades of smoking and harsh medications sapped his voice of it's range, tone and timbre. in his later years he sounded a lot like what you hear here.

  • Jeremy Brett actually did not sing in "My fair lady." Along with Audrey Hepburn, his singing voice was dubbed, much to his disappointment.

  • Oh, dear heart! Lovely Jeremy...first he is signing, then he produces this sweet little oink of disdain!! Such a pity this incredibly talented and charismatic man is here no longer...

  • he had a hard life offscrean. he died so young

  • Yes, I have read Linda Pritchard's book about his last years. So hauntingly sad...

  • Why was it sad?

  • Well let's see...he had heart-troubles from a lifetime of smoking, he had manic depression, he once collapsed on-set (filming S/Holmes), his wife died, which sent him spiralling downwards, making his depression even worse. In fact I think the death of his wife really finished him off. His health more or less collapsed after that, and his heart condition got steadily worse until he died.

  • A sad reality for many in his position. One other I know was Walt Disney. He died due to lung cancer caused by smoking in 1966 I believe.
