  • Ok, again, great job Gold! My opinion Hawthorne Muchachos, featuring Jeff Kievet, #2 overall. Blue Devils being #1. And to the modern "Corps" enthusiasts...you shouldn't fall in the listing...you're NOT Drum & BUGLE Corps. You're really good bands...sorry! Soprano, mellophones, Contras, flugles ....BUGLES! No singing, amplifiers, hula hoops!!!

  • the muchachos were always a top 5 corp

  • and the new kids say that you cannot play a bugle in tune......... i call bullshit

  • Are there any audio or video recordings of any kind, available for the 1974 and especially 1975 Muchachos shows? I'd LOVE LOVE LOVE to get them.

Write me at LilAbner underscore 45 at yahoo dot com PLEASE!

  • I marched in the Muchachos one year only, in 1975 on mellophone, after having played with Santa Clara earlier. After what happened at Nationals in Philadelphia, I never thought I'd hear this music again. It's a GREAT thing to hear! They had a good hormn line, a fantastic soloist (Jeff Kievit), and an incredible drum line. I saw the drum sheet after one show where the judge had given them a total of THREE ticks for the entire show. Across the bottom he wrote, "I am going to retire."

  • My uncle, Bob Kirsch, played French Horn, and it was always great to go each summer to Clifton, NJ High School Field and watch the competitions. Got to be a runner for judges on the field and that was a TREAT to be that up close!

  • Why did the Muchachos get disqualified for overage members in '72, when it was SO OBVIOUS Corps like the Racine Kilties, Royal Aires, Chicago Vanguard and others did as well a few years before...... THEY never got disqualified?

  • As much as I have enjoyed reliving the past w/these corps, Muchachos 49th? Are you out of your mind? Top three, if not better!

  • Im so sorry to diss the older DCI cores, but WHAT THE HELL IS WRING WITH THEM PUTTNG THOSE TIMOANI ON PEOPLE!!! AS WELL AS MARIMBAS AND MALLETS!!! They looked retarded!!

    LOng Live the MUCHANChOS!!

  • Almost as retarded as an entire section of so-called "marching" group doing a standstill on sideline looks to us old timers. It's like football players playing from the bench. Sorry, this one-time tympani soloist says "either march or get off my field!" What can I say... I marched when men were men and percussion didn't need training wheels and microphones. AAAUUUGH! ::politically incorrect rant mode off::

  • long live the muchos, and my buddy, skippy pasquirello

  • long live the muchachos, and my buddy, nicholas pasquerello

  • Goldsmithm many thanks for what you are doing grest job, I love it.

Can I also say that analogim is also a little bit right of what he says.

The major thing here is down the 70's and 80' Those corps where playing for the fans, not the judges. Muchachos, Bridgemen, Velvet knights, they had fun performing their shows.

But you did an awesome job here Goldsmith and like oyou say everybody have is own opinion.

Cheers to you Goldsmith, Yeah Baby.

  • Thank you for posting these corps. Had a great time seeing these performances again.

Jeff Kivet has to be arguably the best soloist of this era of junior drum corps. Thanks again

  • by the way you can not compare a bugle to a trumpet, so these groups where awesome in their days, using bugles besides they are called drum and bugle corps

  • I don't care which group where in which place, me and my family are just happy someone put these corps online to be viewed. thanks to whoever

  • "HEMI 1975"

  • Hey Gold, love the list and history lesson. I marched Bleu Raeders in seventies. I don't agree with the rankings but who cares...lol. If we all made rank lists, they would all be different!!!

  • @phantommp5 Amen man! I appreciate your honesty. And you're polite about it to boot!

  • I Think that it is great to see all of these older performances. I do have to wonder who's behind he pulled this list out of. I have not been able to find the entire list on the internet. Muchachos 49th?? 27th not in the top 20?? Suncoast behind Mandarin, Pioneer, Magic of Orlando and Velvet Knights?? Let's be real!!!

  • @analogjim I can't please everyone!

  • I do understand that you can't please everyone. Did you try to please anybody but yourself!!!! I took the time to find the list through Youtube videos. I have found corps 19 thru 50. Most of the list is really funny. Did you do this as a joke??? Do you really believe that this is the order of "The top 50 Drum Corps of the DCI Era"??? I have found corps 19 thru 50. I can only assume that you have never seen these corps in person because if you did, this list would be entirely different.

  • @analogjim what year did you stop watching drum corps? Believe it or not the activity did progress past the 1970's.

  • FYI. I still follow Drum Corps. I know that there are some newer corps that are top 20 worthy. (Carolina Crown). I am not the only person who disagrees with most of your list. You state that longevity is part of your criteria and that 5 years of top twelve doesn't. compare to a corps that has won class A or been around the top 25 for a number of years. My parents have been around Drum Corps for over fifty years. My father almost had a heart attack he was laughing so hard at this list!!!

  • @analogjim you have a right to your opinion. Make your own list lif you don't like mine.

  • Neither do I agree. I was there in 74' 5' 6' and 7.

  • i do not agree with this one

  • 1975 Muchachos, whilst disqualified were possibly the best corps I have EVER heard!!

  • Where do you come up with this stuff. Muchachos were three time DCI finalists, There are 20 corps ahead of them who never made DCI. IN 1975 they were perhaps one of the greatest corps of ALL TIME! I think you guys never saw them because there is no way they could be placed so low and have actually experienced the increadable performances of 1974 and 1975.

  • Make your own videos then.

  • I marched in the Muchachos in 74 and 75 and we were the best corps ever. Unfortunately we were disqaulified we were all heartbroken I can never ever remember seeing so many grown men cry, we girls well we were just sobbing! I was so proud to be a part of that corps. we don't get enough credit for how powerful we were!!! Thanks Stephanie!

  • 75 is by far my favorite year for Muchacho's..Had the pleasure of seeing the great corps for the first time in 72' Whitewater DCI...my jaw droped..what a horn line..and they did this with G 1 valve&rotor bugles...Thanks for posting this

  • I agree. 1974 my favorite year for the Muchachitos

  • Cool! We (BD) stayed at the same school as the Muchacho's once ('75 or '76 I think). I remember that particular night our food guy found a GREAT buy on lobster, so we had lobster, corn, and bread for dinner. The Muchacho's were eating PB&J for dinner, and there jaws hit the floor when they saw what we were eating!

  • Muchachos were the greatest corps of all time. The drum line was the first to ever score a 19.5. Under the era of ticks that was incomparable. Couldn't be duplicated today. A once in a lifetime experience.

    BGG

  • Yes, their percussion had an insanely formidable reputation in that era, well respected. 8)

  • Holy balls - are those contrabass bugles playing at 2:32? They sounds nothing like tubas, that's for sure.

  • Great job! I can't comment on your placements, but the clips are great and I LOVE RCM in your title card!

  • Thanks!

  • The Muchachos were the ONLY drum corp to beat ever other drum corp during the DCI era , they beat everyone and yet never won a national title! I don,t see hoe being in DCI for the 5 years has anything to do with your placement. Top 10 for sure.

  • They were aways a hand fold in the 60's.. And one of the longest Jr. hornlines to take the field of competition!

    49? I don't thing so!

    They were a power house!

    HD

  • I think you are wrong regarding the placement of this corps. They were huge innovators in the world of drum corps.

  • Thanks for watching!

I agree with you that thet were huge innovators. However the fact that they only existed during the DCI era for 5 years is a big factor in where I placed them.

  • In my book muchachos are top 10

  • Comment removed

  • Great corps!

Where are the other 47 to be found?

  • I just started making the videos, so stay tuned for more!
