  • I fucks wit ya

  • The Sound Of Music

  • Say Hip Hop if Nujabes got you here Rest in Beats.

  • Thank you. You just brought me back to hip hop.

  • it is sickening that songs by lil wayne about disrespecting women and doing drugs and blowing all your money away have millions upon millions of views, yet this one doesn't even have 100,000 views. what does that say about the mindset of people nowadays?

  • This is hot. I just finished making a remix of this song myself. It's a totally different style than this one, though it's still a hip-hop beat. I like this jazz style you put on this one, it's nice to see some originality in music.

  • ART IS OPINION, ONLY TECHNIQUES HAVE GUIDELINES!!! the truth

  • Wow man, I love hip hop so I gotta love Substantial

  • I HATE IT!!! I hate this good music. I hate it when a video shows more than some dumb muthafucker dancing to a song about money, women or clubs. I hate when the song isn't just the same 5 words about a generic opinion that everybody already has and then everyone calls it a masterpiece. I hate actual STYLE to anything. I hate Substantial cuz his deadlocks look cooler than mine. I hate it when an artist shows a genuine love for their craft as a Hip Hop MC. I I HATE IT ALL!!!.......kidding

  • i just wish mainstream had guys like this itd be nice to hear this on the radio every mornin

  • because of this song hip hop is becoming one of my favorite things

Do his previous group/album/what have you, Black Bastards, count as part of his Discography?)

  • i find it a bit soft for my taste. nevertheless it's pure consciousness. All elements come together. really good score as well. sweet drums. peace from London

  • hip hop FOREVER!

  • 4 elements of hp-hop

  • He forgot people which compose and play the instruments themselves there is not just sampling and scratching out there. But this song is cool anyways~ ;P

  • Love Hip-Hop.

  • HAHA A-6 from grindtime dmv 1:45

  • btw rip nujabes.....

  • yea it really pains me to see most people around me so blind to what real hip hop is about...

  • they should get SABER AUGOR AND ATLAS in the background lol

  • It's people like him and Nujabes that keep real hip hop alive.

  • check out think different by nujabes, substantial kills that beat.

  • @spike7s Eclipse isn't bad either, but Think Different probably is the better out of the two RIP Nujabes

  • Who disliked this? Those ignorant bastards >_____> Jk lol. Maybe not.

  • see now this is awseom not many out their that its like this

  • this is when ashen and africn unite

  • Damn, Dope Track!

Hip-Hop Is My ONLY Favorite Thing <3333

  • Explaining hip hop culture by means of a jazz standard. That's what I call self-consciousness. Bravo!

  • its odd. I know Nujabes is Hip hop but for some reason I've never really considered it hip hop. kind of like the hip hop evolution chain that was skipped over during the process. It reminds me of the old school stuff.

  • "to hell with jail, I was more scare of but whoopings." =D

@illkick: I guess hip hop isn't dead after all.

  • if u like this sone, look up think different (by him as well with nujabes providing the background)

  • Substantial kills it on the BLEE tracks!

  • like he said its just all music stop judgeing and listen

  • It's hard to believe a good artist like this was actually on MTV and BET

  • Could go into my a good artist list of mine, along with, Cory gunz, Outkast, UGK, Papoose, Nas, Lupe Fiasco, Cassidy, Elzhi, Skyzoo, Blu, Bone thugs n harmony, Trae the truth, Eminem, Big L, Big Pun, Wu tang clan... the lists goes on and on and on, most people don't see that hiphop is alive, its just underground.

  • he went to my school no lie

  • Wow Hip Hop is alive. I just watched to this song on BET here in the UK and thought i shud follow on the MC

  • @illkick this was on BET!? damn.....maybs i should watch BET more if they're going to play good rap music like this.

  • @illkick you saw than on BET in the UK??? dude i'm extremely surprised i've never seen this song on BET before but then again i don't even watch it that much majority of the hip hop the play is garbage

  • what do you think rapping is then? o.o

  • @moderator555

also known as rapping or hiphop. This is what it is all about. maybe I just misunderstand. What do you mean?

  • see it in the way of, there are ppl who like this. I dont maybe this is REAL hiphop rap but i just dont like the rythm and i dont know why ppl thumb down .

  • @moderator555

your right, music is art and it is all about opinion. let me ask you this, what song would you consider to be the true representation of Hip-Hop?

  • no specific songs i just listen what sounds good to me.

  • Lol, that is what it is all about. If the song does not impact you in the right kind of way do not bother forcing yourself to like it. It was just strange to me when you said that this song was not Hip-Hop and there is no clear definition to what Hip-Hop is. You have any song/artist recommendations?

  • Like I said I havent got any favorite songs/artists. I just listen what i find good And I dont care what other ppl think about what I listen.;)

  • Ok, keep enjoying your music.

  • THIz SOUNDz LIKE ...

    FAVORITE THINGz - SAIGON

  • im not a big fan of hip hop but this shit i can listen to and its starting to grow on me, his lyrics arnt the same shit you here all the time. he loves the music and the scene, not the money and women

ps. his stuff with nujabes is wicked

  • Hip Hop is full of dudes like Stan...Check out the rest of QN5

  • You know thier are plently of MCs like Substantial, off the top of my head theres Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Aesop Rock, Atmosphere, Little Brother, De La Soul, Tribe Called Quest, Cunninlygusit(i know i spelt that wrong lol) and many more! You just got to be open minded

  • @HipHopPolooza

I think all the people you listed are good, but I do not like atmosphere, they are so overrated. Lyric wise they are not that great as everyone says and speaking of their sound, its sounds bad, both ant and slug's voice don't sound like they should be rapping.

  • @0194D I half agreee with you Atmosphere is pretty overratted as far as underground is concerned and slug isn't a phenomenal MC (pretty average if you ask me) but the message he conveys (in most songs) are very good and very relateable but i have to disagree i love Ants production

  • @HipHopPolooza

No no no, you got me wrong, I said Lyric wise, meaning as a lyricist isn't that good, but he does have good messages, so you agree 100% b/c I also like ant's production.

But I mean sound as in voice, their voices are off to me.

  • original composer was not coltrane...

    Rodgers and Hammerstein

  • xmas jazz classic

  • this is real hip hop right here!!

  • cool black panther homage

  • The song samples John Coltrane's "My Favorite Things". Check the related video posted by Astrotype.

  • Thank you

  • What song does this sample?

  • Yeah, props to Substantial's spereadin' the message & keepin' it real.

  • Honestly, you dont see many people actually embrace the hip hop culture like Sub anymore. we need more emcees like him. i know it has gone underground but im tired of people judging hip hop on the "shit" they call rappin on TV and all over the media. gotta respect this song lot of great elements to it.

    long live hip hop.

  • @theDailydose5 Theres alot of emcee's that embrace it like him

  • @SoulSnatchaz yeah no doubt, i realize im kind of contradicting myself but hey man can never have to many conscious dudes on the mic. Stay well ya'll

  • @theDailydose5 hip hop is dyin' man. radioplay is putting a bad taste in peoples mouth...but people are so used to eating shit...

  • Win.

  • What!!! This song is crazy!!! It's so good to be a major hip hop head like I am, and see videos like this play on TV instead of Lil Wayne or Drake garbage...

This guy isn't the best lyrically, but he is still really good when it comes to flow and passion... And his lyrics are still better than what you mostly see play on music videos... Much respect to this guy, i'm so glad i found out about him
