you left out the awesome line Costello says when he walks out of the back room. "How's your mother?" "Ehh, she's on her way out." "We all are, act accordingly".
this scene is so retarded. what real mob boss is gonna be telling someone to swear their not a cop still. they would have whacked leo a long time ago.
You know I never did remember that dudes name. So now I just remember him as "Mr. French". Even when I saw him in King Athur and Indiana Jones I still called him Mr. French.
@VindobonaNorikum2 I can tell. He's an awesome night with King Arthur. Then he's an Irish gangster here in the Departed (really amazing), and then he was Indy's buddy from WW2. What's his name?
@KesserCFC4eva, frankly I don't give a damn about his accent along with the overhelming majority of other people. R.Winstone is good in this supportive role. Period. I'm not that much of accents' purist.
@KesserCFC4eva its hard for him, he has a very thick english accent, and usually doesnt have to mask it... give him a break, he sounded Bostonian enough
@piratebri Oh no, don't get me wrong, I'm not slating him, I think he's awesome. I'm from England and so I always see his movies, he's great, I just thought it was so funny. But yeah he does have a very cockney accent. I guess it's just one of those I look out for coz acting/accents is cool to me :)
@KesserCFC4eva Most of the Boston accents were terrible in this movie, lol. despite that, i still love this fuckin movie. In my opinion though, Martin Sheen takes the cake for worst accent in the whole movie with Marky Mark having the best.
i dunno matt damon''s wasn't very good. Sheen was doing more of a Kennedy upper-class boston accent. But Damon's gf in this movie, whatever her name was, was awful. Sometimes she forgot to drop the R's, other times she went way over the top. She was almost as bad as the female skipper from the perfect storm. watch that trailer and you'll see what i mean.
wellll, he's from cambridge and had a pretty nice upbringing, so he didn't have the hard townie accent he tries to play here. he lived in somerville in college and went to harvard for christ's sake. i mean, it's easy for us to nitpick because we're from boston, but for the mainstream American audience, he was passable. but the chick in this movie was just ridiculous. sometimes she sounded like she was trying to sound like Carmella Soprano, other times no accent at all.
Those guys you tuned up, their connected, down providence. Now, what they're going to do, is come back with some guy and kill you... Which sure as you're born, they will do. Unless I stop them...
Best scene in the film although it doesn't make a huge amount of sense to me.
1) I don't think DiCaprio would ever admit to being a cop because he would know that if he did, he'd be suffering a whole lot more.
2) Nicholson's attitude to the Mafia seems to be that he can just kill them whenever he pleases without consequence for him. That definitely wouldn't be true. In any case, he came across as a pretty useless criminal in this film and his acting wasn't so great either!
@dcasey77 In Boston the Irish crews had(maybe even have) more power then Mafia. It's their territory. Costello's character is based on Whitey Bulger, who was huge in the underworld.
@MrAlex83940 That may be but it doesn't mean they can treat the Mafia anyway they like without fear of reprisals and he does come across as a pretty useless criminal.

@dcasey77 Costello also had the FBi at his disposal as an informant, much like his real-life counterpart, whitey bulger, did.
Bystandah 6 days ago
@Bystandah He may well have done but that doesn't mean that he can kill off the Mafia whenever he feels like it and not expect reprisals.
