Yeah it's much more impressive slamming him toward the end of his career. And obviously Andre let it happen and helped it to happen. He wasn't going over unless he wanted to.
Funny how so many people through Wrestlemania 3 was the first time he ever got slammed.
Whoa, that second slam by Canek looked dangerous as hell. Andre was about four inches from getting dropped on his head. And it's funny to see how much he helps out Kamala. Inoki, for being such a small dude, makes it look pretty effortless. I know he's a Japanese legend, but was he known for being that strong?
Of all those slams, Antonio Inoki is probably the most impressive because he wasn't a power wrestler. It also says a lot about the increase in Andre's weight that Inoki slammed him properly in the early '80s but could barely execute the move later on.
Choshu was the most impressive slam of the bunch 'caue he was so damned little. Hogan's were mostly pathetic. But, as has been noted, nothing happens unless the big guy wants to go. I've worked in the biz and I weigh 300 lbs. Damn few of the boys could slam me without an able assist - from me. Bruno Sammartino will always put these guys to shame - he deadlifted 600lb Haystacks Calhoun (at his heaviest) to shoulder height and dropped him - with NO HELP from the hillbilly.
It's cool seeing guys like Hogan, Warrior and Hansen slamming Andre but it's a little ridiculous seeing midgets like Chosu and Canek slamming him, Andre had to give them a lot of help on those slams
I find it interesting that of all of the people on this vid, Hogan was the one who always sold the slam best. He always acted like he had seriously hurt himself by picking up somebody that heavy.
@Scorpion14 Hogan was good at selling. Hogan gets criticized a lot but he was a fundamentally sound pro wrestler, his work in Japan was very good. Hogan gave the fans what they wanted.
I liked the slam on andre by Kamala .starts patting his belly in triumph LOL ..back in the 70's and early 80's andre was around 450 -480 ..mid 80's to late 80's he was way over 500 pounds ..Hogan and the Warrior were strong as hell .cause they slammed andre when he was at his heaviest
OK first of all...thank you for the compilation. El Canek is one of the flabbiest wrestlers I've ever seen, even for Mexican luchador standards, and on the first try he didn't slam Andre. A body slam is when you pick up a guy, rotate him about 180 degrees til his feet are almost above your eyebrows, then you bend down and release him on his back. Canek got Andre the 2nd time, which is more than can be said for that gaunt, overrated Frankenretard Inoki. He didnt even get him up halfway!
Andre's medical condition meant he kept growing even through his 20s and this video really shows that he does actually look smaller in the earlier years. A claim to fame would be who was the first guy to slam Big Show. In Andre's case it would have to be who was slamming him later on. I think Warrior seemed to do the best job of it. I think Andre hated Helwig though for his lack of skills. Its a pity Warrior can't get along with people. If he came back he'd be so entertaining.
Harley Race did slam Andre in Montreal. I think it was in 1976. Read an interview with Harley about it, but not sure if there's a video of it. He said he held it as long as he could, knowing one of the photographers at ringside would get the shot.
@lmthegame I don't know about the one in Montreal... (although I am sure he did) but there is a picture of him slamming him in Houston in 1978 in my updated version....
Harley Race is supposed to have slammed him as well. The oriental guys who slammed are impressive, considering how small they were.Did people know wrestlers real names in the pre-web era ? Cheers.
I don't think there's any question that the slams by the Ultimate Warrior are the most impressive given the fact that at that point Andre was far heavier than at any other time in his career
IMO the most impressive was the first warrior slam.(second flat out sucked). Its when Andre was way less nimble and at his heaviest. When he was younger he looked alot lighter and could help the other guys get him up. Warrior just flat turned him with brute force. Hogan and Hansen did a good job too.
Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant Arm wrestling video when he was still Terry Boulder. SLAM.. And What about the Slam Match with Big John Studd and Andrea. SLAM.. And you tube Andrea the Giant Wrestling Debut. He got Slammed in that match too. Great Great Job Putting this together.
Inoki got the most help from Andre. El Canek couldn't lift him, even with assistance. Those two almost dropped Andre on his head. Thanks for the vid... classic!
@rayzzor LOL, I only just now saw that you were the one who posted it! I saw it when I was browsing fro some CWA matches. Never knew Andre ever wrestled for them.
Harley Race slammed Andre in 1976 I believe it was during his first America tour. No wonder Andre had a bad back besides his condition, guys were doing some not so good slams on him. Thanks for sharing, haven't seen some of those!
@buck2239 Back problems start to happen because he was still growing. That is not good when the bones are fully hard and the body can't support the wieght later on.
It's funny how McMahon and the WWE claim that Andre was never slammed ( or indeed defeated ) before Wrestle mania 3. When in fact, quite a few people slammed Andre previously including a heel Hulk Hogan multiple times as this video shows. It's right up there with their Andre "died soon after" the match. Really, how soon? That night.? The next week? It was six years later, not exactly soon after.
Most of those slams were your typical pro wrestling slams. Andre had to "allow" them to slam him. I do think Bruno Sammartino could of slammed Andre with ease and there are a few others who could of.
To those asking if Chyna could slam Andre... The answer is yes as long as Andre would agree to sell it. Most of the work with a bodyslam is being done by the person getting slammed. Notice Andre's right hand placement when he's slammed, it's always on the upper thigh of the person doing the slamming. He always bends his knees before being slammed, as he is jumping in the air.
An example is take a dancer's pole, place your right hand on it and slam yourself, it's very easy to do.
@shawnpatrick9111:03 look at Hogan's slam of Andre that was legit he lifted him up to his shoulders and then turned him over that is a legit bodyslam not half ass the other person has to assist. and I don't think Chyna could do what Hogan did
@willisapril Sorry man, the other guy is right. I used to be a professional wrestler and even when the guy is way up on the shoulder, it's still mostly the guy getting slammed that does the work. I trained under Al Snow in Lima, Ohio before he made it big in wrestling. I weighed 330 at the time and was training with a guy who weighed 170. Al used to say that I felt lighter to slam than the other guy even though I outweighed him significantly.
@mightysnoro I respect your comment but still disagree I am 5'9 and am 218 lbs I've been lifting and doing MMA off and and on for 20 years. I body slammed a friend who weighed around 300. I literally picked him up and turned him over. but I would not even attempt to slam Andre, Studd, or Bundy even if it was a running jump
@willisapril I understand your opinion, but you've never trained as a pro wrestler so you don't understand. I'm 6'6" and weighed somewhere around 360 during one particular point in my career. My buddy who weighed 180 and stood 5'9" not only slammed me during a match, but cradle suplexed (perfect plexed) me. I might upload the match onto my YouTube and show you what I mean.
@shawnpatrick911 1 thing I notice is that the body slams themselves looked good when Andre was in good condition. As time progressed he couldn't jump as high or hold himself up very well, and he got heavier too, so it put strain extra strain on his opponents. Inoki's 1st Body Slam looked better than the other 2, and Hogan's Body Slams looked better before their WM3 match. If Chyna could have body slammed Andre, it would have to have been Andre at his prime for it to work best.
Thanks for posting. Although two person bodyslams do not really count. But I would say that either Ken Patera or Big John Studd could slam Andre singlehandedly.
...A Few Others To Mention...Don Leo Jonathan,Bulldog Brower,Harley Race,Bill Edie"Masked Superstar",Shohei"Giant"Baba,Kowalski,"The Professional"Doug Gilbert...
Great Stuff. You put together an excellent "greatest hits" video! Did Jerry Lawler ever bodyslam Andre? I know he was one of the few who actually went over on him in a match. (I'm guessing Lawler probably couldn't have picked him up.)
That is my intention.... I am still learning how to use my video program and getting the size of the video down is the issue I had.... this one was over 750mb... any suggestions?
This was a pretty cool video. I had always been curious as to the official list of who slammed Andre, and before watching this video only knew about Hogan, Warrior, Canek, and Hansen's slams of Andre, but it's interesting to see that other men have indeed slammed Andre. Well done video Sir!
Ken Patera said in one of his interview's that he slammed Andre before Hogan ever did. Thanks for your work in putting together and posting the video!
It is called "Giant Press" I have no idea who performs it but it was mainly used when Andre wrestled in Japan, and was used in North America when he was the Giant Machine.
Bruno Sammartino never slammed Andre (they never wrestled) but he DID deadlift the over 600 lb. Haystacks Calhoun to shoulder-height and drop him in the early 60's . And, unlike Andre, Calhoun DIDN'T help. There are pics of it. And was Calhoun PISSED!!! Bruno clearly was capable of slamming Andre. At 70+ years old, he STILL looks like he could do it.
Whereas most people have biceps and triceps and all sorts of other muscles, Bruno was just one big muscle, the Sammartino. He was a perfect build for a wrestler.
Fantastic job. great work here bro! I had no idea so many people had slammed Andre the Giant. I had no idea Hogan had slammed Andre at least 4 times BEFORE Wrestlemania III. I think the Ultimate Warrior's slams of Andre were the most impressive because they were done when Andre was at his heaviest. The first scoop slam he did was just sheer insanity. To scoop slam a 530 pound man from a standing position like that is nuts.
Great video. I read that Masked Superstar got the first slam on Andre, but that can't be true. Give props to Ultimate Warrior. He got the best slams out of the ultra fat Andre of the later years.
@willisapril Yeah I remember reading it in one of the old wrestling mags that Race was the first, but that one in 1972 was definitely earlier than Race doing it.
I think the ones after the mid 80s and up are the most impressive because Andre had gotten so big at that point. Also the one by Antonio Inoki because he seemed so small and made it look pretty easy.
It seems to me that some wrestlers are actually Wrestlingholics-That's why alot of them continue wrestling long after their physical primes to when they are dead.Giant Baba,Andre,&others are addicited to that rush of having that spotlight on them, the cheers of fans, the meeting of new friends, tasting different foods&drinks from faraway lands new experiences to write home about everyday. That is a feeling that beats just staying home all day watching tv and playing bingo at night.
As a naive youth, I believed Andre to be some unearthly mass to prodigiously heavy to hoist. When Hogan slammed Andre, it shook my world and the WWF proclaimed it was the first time the giant was ever off his feet. Growing up and garnering experience; I found out Hogan slammed the giant many times before WM3, to my dismay not only Hulk weilded the behemoth but a multitude and some better than he; Andre was an accomodating 'SLAM WHORE' being heaved nightly for monetary gain.
I have the full MSG show. At the end when the closing credits rolled, they showed a much better angle during a replay. That was one of the best slams I saw. It was from a very difficult position & Andre landed flat on his back, like you said-- the way a slam should be.
I have to agree. Some Bodyslams looked real weak, as if Andre was jumping by himself, but Warrior was holding Andre for a second bevor he slammed Andre to the matt.
In my opinion, El Canek and Antonio Inoki were the most impressive due to their sizes... It seems like Andre was well over 500 lbs. when Antonio Inoki slammed him in the Philippines in 1985. And he's way smaller than Hogan physically..
Great video. The key to slamming a superheavyweight is for the person being slammed to put their arm on the upper leg of the smaller man slamming him.
Phenomenal idea for a video collection!! I was a wrestling fan from 1977-2006 (gave up on the current product, still love old school) and I had no idea Andre was slammed so many times. I only knew a handful of them.
Andre was a very giving person. If he liked you & respected you, he'd let you slam him.
You can tell around 1985 that Andre's health was in serious decline. He just wasn't giving nearly as much help with the slams after that.

Harley Race slammed him in the 1970s. I remember seeing the picture in the old Apter magazines.
JasonBassn 2 years ago
I have that picture... it will be included in the next version....
rayzzor 2 years ago
@JasonBassn 1976 I believe which would have been Andre's first US world tour if I remember correctly.

Question: What is this music playing during the video, was just curious to know.
NYGuy322 2 years ago
lol they may have lifted andre but they didn't keep him up for long.. andre's the man

Could you fix the video quality issues with the frame size for the next version?
rolochoshu 2 years ago
That is my intention.... I am still learning how to use my video program and getting the size of the video down is the issue I had.... this one was over 750mb... any suggestions?
rayzzor 2 years ago
This was a pretty cool video. I had always been curious as to the official list of who slammed Andre, and before watching this video only knew about Hogan, Warrior, Canek, and Hansen's slams of Andre, but it's interesting to see that other men have indeed slammed Andre. Well done video Sir!

wow see how andre got up after butchers slam amazing

Ken Patera said in one of his interview's that he slammed Andre before Hogan ever did. Thanks for your work in putting together and posting the video!

Blackjack Mulligan slammed Andre at the Philadelphia Spectrum on 7/31/82.

Hulk Hogan slammed Andre the Giant while wrestling as Sterling Golden. There is a video of it. I think it occurred in Georgia in 1979 or 1980.

It is called "Giant Press" I have no idea who performs it but it was mainly used when Andre wrestled in Japan, and was used in North America when he was the Giant Machine.
rayzzor 2 years ago
Who was the first to slam Andre, wasn't it Arn Anderson.
TheJacobJ 2 years ago
Bruno Sammartino never slammed Andre (they never wrestled) but he DID deadlift the over 600 lb. Haystacks Calhoun to shoulder-height and drop him in the early 60's . And, unlike Andre, Calhoun DIDN'T help. There are pics of it. And was Calhoun PISSED!!! Bruno clearly was capable of slamming Andre. At 70+ years old, he STILL looks like he could do it.

Thanks for the reply.... any links to those pictures you spoke of.... I would love to see them.
rayzzor 2 years ago
Whereas most people have biceps and triceps and all sorts of other muscles, Bruno was just one big muscle, the Sammartino. He was a perfect build for a wrestler.

Excellent work! Can you find and post any of the classic Superstar Billy Graham promos that are not already on Youtube?
Great Post!
BoCraps 2 years ago
Fantastic job. great work here bro! I had no idea so many people had slammed Andre the Giant. I had no idea Hogan had slammed Andre at least 4 times BEFORE Wrestlemania III. I think the Ultimate Warrior's slams of Andre were the most impressive because they were done when Andre was at his heaviest. The first scoop slam he did was just sheer insanity. To scoop slam a 530 pound man from a standing position like that is nuts.

I am not sure.... I do not even think they wrestled one on one.

2:19 how can that thin small guy do that?
arrafatter 2 years ago
Great video. I read that Masked Superstar got the first slam on Andre, but that can't be true. Give props to Ultimate Warrior. He got the best slams out of the ultra fat Andre of the later years.
stargate121 2 years ago 5
I have heard that Andre also let the Superstar slam him. Harley Race also.
lakecumberland 2 years ago
Harley Race DID slam Andre... there is a photo of it all over the place of it that I did not put into the video...
rayzzor 2 years ago
@stargate121 : Yeah. Andre definitely was at his heaviest at the time Warrior started slamming him.

I think Black Jack Mulligan slammed Andre also. I have never seen it, but I have only heard about it.

Canek slamed to Andre in 1984 not in 1982. Good recopilations

Inoki had much more trouble the last time he slammed him but still very impressive. It takes two people to do a good slam

Kamala slammed the shit out of him, very nice!

after 1984 andre put on heaps of weight and u can tell dat it was much harder to lift him up and he was not lifted as high

Harley Race also slammed him once

Harley Race did in 1978 he always claimed he was the 1st but after seeing this he was wrong
willisapril 2 years ago 3
@willisapril Yeah I remember reading it in one of the old wrestling mags that Race was the first, but that one in 1972 was definitely earlier than Race doing it.

Antonio Inoki is so very small, and that slam looked awesome.
mils2211 2 years ago
Antonio Inoki's slam ws the best considering his size, he is very small.
mils2211 2 years ago
great video!!!
dpray151 2 years ago
I think the ones after the mid 80s and up are the most impressive because Andre had gotten so big at that point. Also the one by Antonio Inoki because he seemed so small and made it look pretty easy.
Trox3985 2 years ago
Great video. Can anyone tell me why andre hung on so long? After '84 he seems to be in brutal pain and suffering various indignities in the process.
altoon89 2 years ago
It seems to me that some wrestlers are actually Wrestlingholics-That's why alot of them continue wrestling long after their physical primes to when they are dead.Giant Baba,Andre,&others are addicited to that rush of having that spotlight on them, the cheers of fans, the meeting of new friends, tasting different foods&drinks from faraway lands new experiences to write home about everyday. That is a feeling that beats just staying home all day watching tv and playing bingo at night.

Man, seeing a younger Andre get up virtually unfazed by the body slams by Vachon and even Hogan is quite amazing.

Ecwauf. I must say, I'm a fan of your work. You do good things on the intarwebz.

GanjaZombi2 2 years ago
Hogan was the only one slam andre most, that why he said nobody do that before.
protonsagawira 2 years ago
I know that it is trendy to hate on the Ultimate Warrior, but I thought his slams of Andre were very good.
By the end of the 1980s, Andre The Giant was at a HUGE weight due to deteriorating health problems, and Warrior was a smaller wrestler than Hogan.
Warrior got Andre FULLY vertical upsidedown in the Madison Square Garden clip. One of the best executions of the bodyslam here.
endofthelinejoel 2 years ago 6
I completely agree with you there... it is too bad they do not have a better camera angle of that slam!
rayzzor 2 years ago
@rayzzor
I have the full MSG show. At the end when the closing credits rolled, they showed a much better angle during a replay. That was one of the best slams I saw. It was from a very difficult position & Andre landed flat on his back, like you said-- the way a slam should be.

@wtcvidman
Thanks for the vid reply.... MUCH better angle!

I have to agree. Some Bodyslams looked real weak, as if Andre was jumping by himself, but Warrior was holding Andre for a second bevor he slammed Andre to the matt.
Konni1969 1 year ago
yup canek body slam him first
elsant077 2 years ago
In my opinion, El Canek and Antonio Inoki were the most impressive due to their sizes... It seems like Andre was well over 500 lbs. when Antonio Inoki slammed him in the Philippines in 1985. And he's way smaller than Hogan physically..
mach2rock 2 years ago
Great video. The key to slamming a superheavyweight is for the person being slammed to put their arm on the upper leg of the smaller man slamming him.
shawnpatrick911 2 years ago
Phenomenal idea for a video collection!! I was a wrestling fan from 1977-2006 (gave up on the current product, still love old school) and I had no idea Andre was slammed so many times. I only knew a handful of them.
Andre was a very giving person. If he liked you & respected you, he'd let you slam him.
You can tell around 1985 that Andre's health was in serious decline. He just wasn't giving nearly as much help with the slams after that.
