  • Am I the only one who thinks this is fucking dangerous?

  • its been said that founder has fought against a kendoka , thats why he has sword defense in the style , everything in karate has its purpose dont simply dismiss it , its very disrespectful

  • I wonder if it is T.Suzuki himself that comments the video.. It sounds like him..

  • does not take control of the weapon at anytime and a mawashi geri to the ribs while the samuraika holds the sword out of the way so he does not cut himself its

    crap

  • I found that strange also, especially considering Shindo Yoshin Ryu (from which Wado Ryu got a lot of techniques and principles) seems to be all about controlling the weapon. I don't know where these techniques come from, actually.

  • @ronin954

I have been practicing sword defence against my children. This one does not work. The best thing so far is to keep distance and when they charge I move in and control the hand. Just as they are striking orafter a strike. Evading does not work as I keep getting hit. They attack fast and repeatedly.

  • @samsonpug I know,Now imagine trying this against someone who has sent a lifetime of Kendo,Iaido and Tamesshigiri training I think any karateka would be cut in half.OSU!

  • Crap!

  • I trained under Suzuki Hanshi many times and graded under him also. But this sword attack / defense is just nonsense and nothing more than to impress a less experienced mindset. If someone comes at you with a sword in real life, then I cant see anyone standing their ground and doing this stuff! Someone will get themselves killed.....

  • Of course an unarmed man has no chance (or at least minimal) against a man with a sword. Does it even have to be said? I think the purpose of the videos is to demonstrate principles. Why is a sword used? Good question? Maybe it's a good way to harden the mind to have a sharp sword in the face. Or it's just for fun. Or to impress people, as you say.

  • Of course the technique is hard to time and execute well, but it seems a bit shortsighted to call it nonsense... After all, karate (meaning "empty hand", ie unarmed) was developed for the express purpose of being able to defend yourself against an armed opponent!

Having said that, my advice if somebody ever draws a sword on you would still be to run ;-).

  • sometimes i wish i was in ancient asia so i could kill someone... i mean what!!!!! thats crazy talk.

  • Excellent !!
