@jimihendrixfan2008 haha easy to tell from the sound. I'd also be able to tell if there wasn't a bridge cover (the absence of the bridge pick-up would reveal as well).
But the sound easily gave it away as a P bass.
Nothing wrong with a P bass of course, just found it funny that it said "Jazz Bass Jam" but it's actually a P bass. (and I know that Jazz Bass Jam meant the style of the music rather than the type of bass, just making a joke).
Notice the camera icon to the right of the Post text box that's labeled "Attach a video?" If you've got something critical to say about this piece, use that icon to submit your own rendition. That would seem to me to be the best way of validating your opinion. Yeah, I didn't think so. Those who can, play. Those who can't, talk.
That's some nice mellow noodling. If I might put a bug in your ear, I string my p-bass with D'addario flats and a while back I swapped the pickup for the EMG p-bass model and it made a big difference in both the clarity and range of the sound. Higher highs, deeper lows and clean. Even on the low notes I now get sibilence and much more articulation. I think youe style is a natural for the switch.
I never say much but damn I gotta say something. the amount of haters here is just incredible. if you guys don't like a muddy bass sound then why come here, listen to it and call it shit? some people like a grainy and muddy blues sound. this is a damn good jam with a lot of nice harmonics blended in. definitely tells a good story to my ears. if you don't like this style of music then go listen to some groovy and clean george benson or whatever and quit hatin on a different style of music. PEACE
@hesellsmystuff just to let you know jazz players usually play with dead strings or flat rounds to give them more of a "duller" sounds...sort of a upright bass kind of tone :) also i didn't any bad intonation setup form this bass :P
@voncoolio What? I'm just saying. Didn't say I was streaks ahead of this guy, just saying I'm a bass player too, so I'm not just a dick who goes around loling at the bass community. But seriously, he isn't getting any tonight.
@NPC919 not saying you can't play bass, but i like how you measure a musicians talent by whether or not he gets laid, thats not what music is about, at least not for real musicians
@strongone5000 I'm simply not impressed by this jam, and I doubt a female would be impressed by this jam either. Certainly not so impressed as to engage intercourse with this man on the grounds he can play the bass to this level of skill. Besides, my comment was 5 months or so ago, maybe he did get laid since then? I'm sure the man has a succesful sex life, just not due to his bass playing. I'm just sayin'.
its funny when people hate on him caue i know tim and he makes a good living playing bass and playing bass only so hes not that bad. playing bass is about making music in a band tim needs other musicians

Well, for one: The J stands for Jazz. J-Pickups are generally clearer, brighter, that sort of stuff; where in comparison P-Pickups are duller, warmer/rounder sounding.
this guys a freaking genius hes using a muddy e string sound as a base for an awesome jam how can you guys not see that. AND WHEN IT SAYS JAZZ BASS JAM HE MEANS JAZZ STYLE NOT JAZZ BASS DAMN!
like he's on a different channel-and I don't like to be negative--but it disjointed, the tone way to muddy-and then the fret noise-very sloppy-but this is only 1 guys opinion.

For all you who do not like this music -- it is because you simply do not GET IT! It's not fretless. Around the 1:00 mark you can hear him miss the fretwire slightly and cause that "Erk" sound.

OF COURSE it's not fretless. I said only, that he probably has got flatwound strings, which we have usually in fretless bass.

no... flatwounds... simply thicker strings, which are flatened...
