  • nice smile

  • I'm pretty sure this is one of those "shreds" videos. I like his tone, personally, just not for what he's doing. Not that I know, what he's doing.

  • Soooooooooooo boring. I fell asleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep!!!!

  • why would anyone upload this?

  • This fellas got some serious skill but where's the GROOVE man?

  • horrible...i'm in jazz school and.. its.. bad .

  • 1:26 "wrap it up", so sad

  • sounds like he's just jamming with a bunch of random ass notes....

  • That is a pretty disgusting tone.

    Awesome playing, nonetheless.

  • That doesn't sound like a jazz bass, it sounds like a precision bass.

  • @rarisgod hahaha

  • @rarisgod It is a P-bass haha

  • @jimihendrixfan2008 haha easy to tell from the sound. I'd also be able to tell if there wasn't a bridge cover (the absence of the bridge pick-up would reveal as well).

But the sound easily gave it away as a P bass.

Nothing wrong with a P bass of course, just found it funny that it said "Jazz Bass Jam" but it's actually a P bass. (and I know that Jazz Bass Jam meant the style of the music rather than the type of bass, just making a joke).

  • that bass sounds chunky great sound

  • ma che stai facendo?!

  • Notice the camera icon to the right of the Post text box that's labeled "Attach a video?" If you've got something critical to say about this piece, use that icon to submit your own rendition. That would seem to me to be the best way of validating your opinion. Yeah, I didn't think so. Those who can, play. Those who can't, talk.

  • That's some nice mellow noodling. If I might put a bug in your ear, I string my p-bass with D'addario flats and a while back I swapped the pickup for the EMG p-bass model and it made a big difference in both the clarity and range of the sound. Higher highs, deeper lows and clean. Even on the low notes I now get sibilence and much more articulation. I think youe style is a natural for the switch.

  • Such an ugly bass tone... and those slides he keeps doing are annoying as hell

  • q carajo es esto! fkn sucks

  • absolutely beautiful sound!

  • man, i just noticed at 1:28 that he's not playing a fretless.

  • dude this shit fucking sucks

  • you and your bass eat dicks

  • Jeez... that sounded like my turtle's fart.

  • @Arrivald Hahahahahahahaha. Wow.Thanks for the laugh.

  • good job man!!

  • yick, I hate that tone....but, I love the playing.

  • FLATWOUNDS ?

  • I never say much but damn I gotta say something. the amount of haters here is just incredible. if you guys don't like a muddy bass sound then why come here, listen to it and call it shit? some people like a grainy and muddy blues sound. this is a damn good jam with a lot of nice harmonics blended in. definitely tells a good story to my ears. if you don't like this style of music then go listen to some groovy and clean george benson or whatever and quit hatin on a different style of music. PEACE

  • jazz bass sound is the best tone ever!

  • damn this tone :X

  • Dead strings - bad intonation ( setup ) of the bass, etc.. equals a horrible video that I would grade a d+ at best

  • @hesellsmystuff just to let you know jazz players usually play with dead strings or flat rounds to give them more of a "duller" sounds...sort of a upright bass kind of tone :) also i didn't any bad intonation setup form this bass :P

  • what an amazing sound!

  • Fraco

  • this tone is so fuckin vintage!!4 omg.

  • Very well!

  • totally amateur

  • This tone is perfect, but not to be played on a fretted bass.

    Sounds all buzzy and such.

  • Good playing, but terrible tone..

  • That was cool. I'm not into jazz, but that was a nice groove he had going.

  • that's a very good observation. it is less likely for bassist to get laid compared to guitarist.

  • PS: I'm a bassist too so I ain't just randomly dissing bass players in general. It's just this particular bass player ain't getting laid tonight.

  • @NPC919 Upload a video of you playing half as well as this guy. Otherwise stfu, kid.

  • @voncoolio What? I'm just saying. Didn't say I was streaks ahead of this guy, just saying I'm a bass player too, so I'm not just a dick who goes around loling at the bass community. But seriously, he isn't getting any tonight.

  • @NPC91 stfu (*reread my comment*)

  • @voncoolio Reread mine...

  • @NPC919 just tonight??? Total long shot for this guy.

  • @jaronee Ty for the correction ;D Indeed :P

  • @NPC919 not saying you can't play bass, but i like how you measure a musicians talent by whether or not he gets laid, thats not what music is about, at least not for real musicians

  • @strongone5000 I'm simply not impressed by this jam, and I doubt a female would be impressed by this jam either. Certainly not so impressed as to engage intercourse with this man on the grounds he can play the bass to this level of skill. Besides, my comment was 5 months or so ago, maybe he did get laid since then? I'm sure the man has a succesful sex life, just not due to his bass playing. I'm just sayin'.

  • @NPC919 hookers?

  • @NPC919 dude none of us bassists are getting laid tonight. We're bassists.

  • @atomiclumberjack sad but true.

  • @NPC919 That's because no bass players get laid anyway

  • @NPC919 he's married.

  • @LLroomtempJ now we KNOW hes didnt get laid that night.

  • @NPC919 LOL

  • How to play bass and not get laid.

    Hmm...

  • hahahahhahahaha that's pretty good

  • hahahah i totally need to learn how to do tht

  • this bass is beautiful.. its tone is awesome..

  • its funny when people hate on him caue i know tim and he makes a good living playing bass and playing bass only so hes not that bad. playing bass is about making music in a band tim needs other musicians

  • awesome

  • it´s such same how many stupid idiots are here. the headline is JAZZ BASS JAM and all the rookies should be listen carefully to scale and the doublestops he plays. it take everybody to a higher level, and it doesn´t matter what kind of Bass he used. thx mate

  • Dude, you're at the wrong place... go grab a pick and play some trashy and hell-easy rock riff, it fits your knowlegde, and forget the style jazz, for your own good. I would call this a first attempt jammin... sry fo' being such a negative youtube-er, bad mood...

  • Jazz bass as in the style, not as in the type of bass.

  • @Grifff0 EXACTLY. Everyone else on this is new.

  • Hmm, he's bad.

  • no, he's not bad, but i don't really like it either

  • this precision bas,not jazz bass

  • I think that they mean he is playing jazz bass... as opposed to playing pop bass or rock bass in this clip... no tthat he is playing ON a jazz bass.

But yeah, that is a confusing title.

  • o co chodzi???

  • ???

  • ateh minha irma toca melhor!

  • they sound like flatwound strings which causes the shit tone

  • Flatwounds don't cause shit tone. But this guy has shit enthusiasm. He's got a good vocabulary, but can't tell a story.

  • some ppl like this kind of tone, for example, i cant stand jaco's tone, hes arguably one of the best bassists in the world but i cant stand his tone, but he loves it, it really is beauty in the eye of the beholder, or in this case tone in the ear of the bassist

  • @simonejp91 I agree, bass needs a little more high-end for me.

  • there is no tempo...just hitting whatever...far out this guys playing shits me..

  • Tout le monde peu le faire ça --'

  • this is sooooo awful

  • p bass sound so dirty

  • I hate his tone.

  • this guy is garbage

  • he looks like a bass player

  • he plays a beauty

  • He's got flat wound strings for fretless! Good idea for that tune.

  • i would always recommend flats for a precision bass ^^ especially, when you play funk

  • It's not fretless. Around the 1:00 mark you can hear him miss the fretwire slightly and cause that "Erk" sound.

  • OF COURSE it's not fretless. I said only, that he probably has got flatwound strings, which we have usually in fretless bass.

  • Has he got nylon wound?

  • no... flatwounds... simply thicker strings, which are flatened...

  • I can tell why people would use a j-bass instead of a p-bass for jazz solos'n'stuff in this video.

  • Well, for one: The J stands for Jazz. J-Pickups are generally clearer, brighter, that sort of stuff; where in comparison P-Pickups are duller, warmer/rounder sounding.

  • this guys a freaking genius hes using a muddy e string sound as a base for an awesome jam how can you guys not see that. AND WHEN IT SAYS JAZZ BASS JAM HE MEANS JAZZ STYLE NOT JAZZ BASS DAMN!

  • look at this old fart playing his bass ever so gently...

  • I hate P bass sound ...its crappy and not accurate compared to jazz bass .

What's more this guy doesn't groove at all and original at all neither

  • a lot of fret buzz

  • that's a precision man!

  • FAIL........

  • u fail..

  • no u fail!

  • My groove is bigger than yours !

  • Its not how big the groove, its how you use it :)

  • lol thats not a jazz bass

  • FAIL........

  • not enough balls in this jazz. I think good jazz is jazz that forces itself to be heard and fuck your ears up in a good way.

  • Yeah exactly! I think this wasn't that good anyway the tone was not clear, the rythm itself wasn't Jazz in anyway and it was boring all in all.

  • Bad sound! Not groovy a all... Nasty sound!

  • why is he not using an equaliser? =/

  • it looks like he painted his nails pink XD

  • i hear wot ur sayin the whole fret buzz thing man...fukin nasty

    now its 2 guys opinion

  • like he's on a different channel-and I don't like to be negative--but it disjointed, the tone way to muddy-and then the fret noise-very sloppy-but this is only 1 guys opinion.

  • this isn't very good..

  • I agree

  • totally

  • MUY BUENO!!

  • pelado cabeza de pinga

  • Is it just me or does that look like a fretless bass?

  • not fretless u can hear buzzing of frets

  • you can also tell by how it sounds, not just the look.. its pretty clear its a fretted.

  • i meant by the tone not the look =/

  • i think so too the sound is more meater. and i cant notice the fret wires. sure there maybe line but they could be paint (or any markers) fretless bass does not mean there are no fret lines. its just that its called fretless beacuse there are no fretwires

  • i think i know what he means..

    jamming with bass playing jazz!!

instead of playing a "jazz bass" lol.

  • Too much buzzing. Specially' for a jazz bass.

  • Sorry to be pedantic buts thats a P bass. :-)

  • The higher frets sound like a Jazz bass to me.

  • danezz is right, it's a P-Bass, just look at the pick-ups.

  • This guy could use some lessons.

  • for what?

  • honestly, im not really digging it=\ im just not into THIS guy.

  • Can someone tell me the strings he's using please, thanks x

  • hes using flatwound bass strings they give off that deeper percussive tone you could probably get some at musicians friend for pretty cheap

  • that sounds pretty damn good....the tone isn't thee best

  • hah he's got girl hands

  • lol

  • looooool!

  • Coooool! B-)

  • That was lovely. Thanks.

  • To be clear, I thought I was replying to

bOSK24's "gay" post. bOSK24, you are a douche.

And the guy's nails are NOT painted. It's the lighting.

It's one idiotic post after another on this thread.

  • god, thanks for posting something different from speed bass shred! great gig

  • That was cool, it looks like he's wearing nail varnish, somehow i doubt he is. lol

  • it refers to the style of music not the bass

  • the p bass is such a beautiful bass. but that just sounds like shit. this guy needs to listen to Jamerson...

  • gay

  • Douche.

  • dude thats a p bass not a jazz bass

  • This bass sounds like shit

  • didnt like the sound tbh :(

  • MUY BUENO!! SI SÑR.

  • use a jazz bass, the p bass has too much of a flat sound

  • i loved everything about this other than the nail varnish

  • For all you who do not like this music -- it is because you simply do not GET IT! This musician is using a vintage Fender Precision bass with flatwound strings, which by nature sounds darker and muddier than a Jazz Bass. Dont dis this cat or his music for the tone of his setup! He can PLAY -- his technique is NOT "sloppy" nor is this music "lame"! Get your ears cleaned of wax if you cant hear this for yourself/or just get your head out of the sand! This IS the BLUES, people!

  • Listen to this guy, he knows what hes talkin about.........and had a reeli cool name XD

  • Agreed. I enjoy how he effortlessly blends in harmonics (like the end). I wish I could get my bass to sound like this.

  • How do you know he uses flatwounds?

Btw why does it sais jazz bass but hes playing a p bass?

  • you can tell hes using flatwounds, because they simply sound like flatwounds. its a darker sound.

  • Lame...

  • thats horrible doesnt matter his curriculum and knowledge.... that just sucked... sorry man..

  • i thought his tone was terrible. just not my style. i think if he had of played that exact jam on a clean, crisp sounding bass, it would have been way more appealing to me.

  • I agree. I have the same set up, but way cheaper and it sounds much clearer then that. His E strings sounds shit. My action is crazy high, so that helps. I get much more upright type tone.

  • eres un asco tienes mala tecnica y tienes errores de principiante apestas

  • this=jam of the jazz style on a fender P bass. NOT on a jazz bass.

  • Are those Flatwound strings?

    It seems kinda "thumpy".

  • man, kinda sloppy

  • are those flats?? this is by far one of my favorite p-bass tones!!

  • I get this tone bu using the seymour duncan Spb 3 pickup and the daddario xl super bright strings which are round wound...

  • you people just don't understand..the title of the video is Jazz bass jam...it doesn't refear to the kind of bass guitar he is playing..but the style that he is playing and that's jazz..

  • that's a P bass

  • I have roundwounds on it now..they are ok if you want a more agressive sound..but I'm switching on flatwounds..with this bass it really depends on what kind of strings you use more then what amplification you have..my opinion

  • I have the exact same bass...

  • Jazz bass jam? Thats a p bass.

  • they look very similar. look at the bridge tho.

  • Nah im 100% sure its a p bass. There is no way its a jazz bass.

  • Yh u can tell by the tone and pickups

  • It's calles "Jazz Bass Jam" because it's a Jazz Jam on a Bass = Jazz Bass Jam ^^

  • that's exactly what I said below ;)

  • Is he wearing nail polish?

  • Probably :/

  • ha,ha,h,aha...I did not notice that.. he,he,he...
